Didn't know you already had a thread up for this when i posted mine, ninja. Anyway, here's my post from my thread:

It appears that IGNCube has reported that Konami of America has made it official that Metal Gear Solid 3 will indeed be shown at E3. Normally I'd be excited since I own a PS2, but I wonder why IGNCube would bother reporting a game that is, as far as we know, a PS2 exclusive. That started my gears cranking, wondering if IGN was dropping a hint that MGS3 is indeed coming to the Gamecube. I eventually wrote it off as Matt or Fran just getting excited about the game until I read the recently posted article on what Matt most wants to see at E3. If you'll read the article, he clear states he's excited about Metal Gear Solid 3, yet he DOESN'T say that in the paragraph where he details what PS2 titles he's looking forward to (he has individual paragraphs for XBox and PS2 games). So is IGN dropping *further* hints that Konami will be releasing Metal Gear Solid 3 on the Gamecube? Does IGN know something we don't? It would seem entirely plausible now- after all, Konami did allow a Nintedo second party to remake one of it's classics. Who says Nintendo and Konami's relationship hasn't delved even further? Or perhaps maybe Matt is just speculating, as he has done so in the past. However, it seems that is not so, at least to me. I hope we'll find out at E3.

As you've read, Matt also dropped a hint in his article on upcoming E3 games. Interesting stuff.

When the MGS remake sells well on the Gamecube, there won't be any reason for Konami not to port MGS3 over. I'm sure the only reason MGS2:S wasn't ported is because Konami wasn't sure if the Gamecube userbase was the right market for it. The Resident Evil remake proved Gamecube owners are into "M" rated games with zombies, but do they want an "M" rated game with no zombies?

Yeah, I've been kind of guessing that Silicon Knights has been borrowing some Konami MGS team members to help them work on Twin Snake, and when they're done with that they'll take the knowledge of those tools (and the engine used to make TS) to create MGS3 for GC I'm speculating, kind of like how the PS2 version of Splinter Cell was coded from the ground up.

I hope this is the plan, because that would be super sweet.

My guess... Metal Gear Solid 3 is for Playstation 2 and Gamecube and NOT Xbox. It may get ported to Xbox some time after, but my guess is it'll arrive on PS2 and GC first.

That doesn't seem so far fetched when you consider what someone else pointed out. With Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes hitting the Gamecube this year, if any other console besides PS2 gets MGS3, it'll probably be the GC. I don't know how well Substance did on Xbox. It wouldn't be far fetched if MGS3 landed on all three consoles.

I'd cross my fingers Gamecube isn't the last console to get it. If it is, don't expect it to sell well. I hate seeing that trend continue.

Don't shoot the messenger... but I recall it being mentioned that Microsoft gave Konami a money hat to make sure that MGS3 hits the Xbox first for several months before appearing on other systems. I think this happend shortly after Konami announced that Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance would not be released on the Xbox in Japan, seems that forced MS to do what it does best... throw money at companies to get what they want.

I hope I am wrong, but just do a quick search on Google and you can find sites mentioning the money hat that MS gave Konami. One example here:

I think Konami should expect average sales of MGS3 if they release it on GCN compared to PS2. Obviously, people who loved MGS would have bought a PS2, like my friend did.
If we want MGS to do well, we should go out and buy like 2 or 3 copies of MGS3, just so we can prove how much we love the fact they've brought it over to Cube.

Yeah right.

They should take this sort of stuff into account and not expect astronomical sales all the time. That said, I think MGS remake will do well, in GCN terms. I'll buy it definitely.

From what I remembered MGS2:Substance for Xbox sold like crap, It didn't do well at all. I think GC would of done dramatically better in sales. Since I believe Nintendo is 2nd in worldwide sales.

Don't quote me but I strongly beleive that's the case as of sales recently.

Yeah, I am quite sure that Nintendo is still #2.

But yes, I would be willing to put money on Metal Gear Solid 3 being shown for GameCube at E3.  I think it goes without saying that it will be available on PS2 and Xbox as well, but at this point it seems VERY likely to be available on GameCube as well.

Personally, I could care less that MGS2 didn't come out on GameCube, and I am sure as hell renting MGS3 before buying it, but I am happy all the same.

It is my firm belief that MGS3 will actually debut on PS2 first. If anyone has watched the bonus DVD that's packaged inside MGS2, one can easily see the PS2 love in the offices. Kojima's Metal Gear team are absolute experts when it comes to the Playstation 2 hardware... Whatever the case turns out to be, Konami will at least code the game for PS2 initially. They could launch it simultaneously with other version's but at this point that's highly unlikely. Will MGS3 be a multi-platform game? Eventually yes, initially no. I have to say though, i am simply too excited over the prospect of a Metal Gear remake, especially on the Cube and super coming from a second party. And yes, even though The Twin Snakes has a really good chance of turning out better then Son's of Liberty i expect it to be equally as good as MGS3. Having said that though, it's safe to say that MGS3 is a far more anticipated title. It would be interesting to see how it all turns out. E3 is gonna soar!

MGS3 is a time exclusive multi-platform title (remember Konami made huge losses in their sports equipment franchises and are willing to pull their finger out and support Nintendo platforms now to regain losses) and MGS3 will come out on PS2 first for a while, followed by PC & Xbox launches and lastly on GCN however expect GCN version to have token gifts by Konami such as GBA linkup and possible NES version unlockeables or something to keep Nintendo userbase satisfied for waiting last.
Oh and it will be interesting to see what Konami trailer previews will come with the GCN version of MGS3?
Winning Eleven?
That Exclusive GCN title thats never been officially confirmed? The name of title is eluding me at the moment (hangover).
A Castlevania PS2 port?
A Contra PS2 port?

Interesting indeed.

2003 = Nintendo's most successful E3 ever (well until Nintendo launches its franchises Online in the future when technology is favourable to do so).

Is there a game called Metal Gear 3 on NES? Or is this some indication of something happening within the bowels of Nintendo HQ?

Yes, the page loaded is the GCN portion of the Nintendo main site.

My sytems a little slow so as www.metalgear3.com loaded, I could see that it it finished quickly with a blank screen, then loaded http://www.gamecube.com/index.jsp which took just a second (again another blank screen), and finally loaded http://www.nintendo.com/systems/gcn/index.jsp

So I guess the question still is: Who registered the MetalGear3 page?

I don't know if anybody remembers this, but i'll throw it out there. I think it was 2 E3's ago, IGN had a article about a NOA representitive who was a little tipsy, and began boasting about how the GC was going to have the new MGS game.  Evidently, they were watching a sony presentation of, i think SOL and he began yelling'its coming to GC' over and over again.  Now after I read this, I heard nothing more about it.  Until now.  Maybe IGN has known all along about this?  They certainly have hinted at knowing something for the past year, at least.  We shall see...

Personally I think it's pretty dumb for Konami to be even showing MGS3 now.  Twin Snakes hasn't even been revealed yet and any announcement of MGS3 might hurt sales no matter what platform the game is on.  It will be particularly harmful if MGS3 is a PS2 exclusive.  It won't look too good if the Gamecube has a remake released at the same time as the next new game.

The fact that IGNCube is covering MGS3 is pretty strange since up till now everyone assumed the title was a PS2 exclusive.  Since IGNPS2 also has the story I figure it's either now multiplatform or IGNCube is speculating on rumours.  MGS3 has been rumoured for Cube for a while.  I guess we should just wait for E3.

"I think Konami should expect average sales of MGS3 if they release it on GCN compared to PS2. Obviously, people who loved MGS would have bought a PS2, like my friend did."

Good point.  The Resident Evil series is different because the original RE titles are Gamecube exclusive.  People only have to buy a Cube to play RE games (excluding spinoffs).  In this situation an original MGS title has already been released on the PS2 so the bulk of the fanbase already owns a PS2.  If they switched platforms it would probably hurt sales.  There is however also the factor of MGS fans who would be willing to buy a Cube solely for MGS3 if it were exclusive.

One thing probably none of you have thought about yet is, WHY would a remake of the first Metal Gear Solid appear on GCN. Doesnt this indicate perhaps that the whole series is coming to GCN, with a late port of MGS2, a version of MGS3 and the rumored exclusive MGS4?
This might be far fetched, but that remake deal is really fishy, why a remake, why? They might as well start a whole new MGS for GCN but strangely its a remake of the first one, similar to the Resident Evil deal, with remakes, ports and new exlusives.

LMFAO!  I hear that man.

I remember a while back that MGS3 was promised a limited exclusivity thingy for Xbox.  It could be that the PS2 and GCN versions would come out at the same time 6 months later (ala Splinter Cell, but hopefully a more refined game.)

IGN has really lost some of it's creditability, IGN hasn't been the same since the 64bit/32bit days.

I think money has gotten to their heads, I hear the dot coms are looking to rebound due to more advertising from big investors. So thing's will improve since the drought that started a few yrs ago.

Well, I wouldn't bank on MGS3 on the GCN if for no other reason then you wouldn't be too disappointed if it doesn't appear. Also, MGS3 is going to have a limited presence because Konami wants their Castlevania game to be their main deal. MGS3 isn't coming out until holiday 2004.
If Konami wants MGS3 to sell well then it's going to be on the PS2 first. I'm not dismissing simultaneous releases on either GCN or Xbox (or both) but the money is with the PS2. It's possible MS could toss Konami a wad of cash for first rights but I doubt they would go for it. The game would sell horribly in Japan so MS would have to throw Konami a ton of cash.
I agree with the festering 'roid but most likely on a smaller scale. MGS:TTS on GCN, then perhaps MGS2:S and maybe MGS3. This is Konami remember and if TTS doesn't sell really well they may reconsider.
One thing that intrigues me, though, and leads credence to more MGS love for the GCN is the fact that MGS:TTS is developed by SK which most likely means the game will remain exclusive no matter what happens, similar to Rare and Conker, unless Konami wants to pony up the cash.
Having a Nintendo 2nd party do this suggests that Nintendo and Konami are growing closer so maybe Konami will port over some of their other games like Castlevania (which will hopefully be good).

It better be, Contra on the PSX sucked big time. This could also go the way of RE. Seems a pattern is following, Trying to introduce the MGS series on GC and what better why to start that of than a remake of the original MGS. Although one still has to wonder what does the referrence of Twin Snakes in the title means. There's got to be something other than Solid and Liquid being in the game.

Yeah that is a cool theory and I'm glad we are getting an upgraded version of MGS....but if thats the case I rather that they start at the original Metal Gear. I can barely remember the game and an all new version of it would be like a new game. Come to think of it I have a better idea.....why don't they remake the 8 bit Metal Gear titles on GBA with connectivity to the GC MGS titles At the very least, since they are remaking MGS, they could remake Metal Gear: Ghost Babel for GC for GBA to connect to MGS:TS. I still don't like how they called Ghost Babel, Metal Gear Solid in the US....they could have at least called it Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel....sigh but thats another issue all together.

Yes it is But I figure there has to be some added plots that will be implemented. Although someone mentioned you could play as Liquid and see it through his eyes. But the problem with that is who will Liquid be up against? just Soild won't do, hmmm unless Liquid has his own personal bit in the game that takes place somewhere else / or how'll he took over Moses island.

It would be way cool to play as Ninja

I just got through watching my first taste of the E3 spectacle with the MGS3 trailer, and I have to say that I am more excited about this game than ever.  I am actually more hyped about MGS3 now than MGS The Twin Snakes.  Konami just restored my faith in Metal Gear.

EDIT:  A small worry...  I just remembered how freaking cool the MGS2 trailer was...

I sure hope NINTENDO pay konami alot of cash to bring it MGS3 at least 6 months  before to the gc than ps2/xbox that would be the HAPPIEST DAY.......

i doubt it, because nintendo would have to just unload dollars on them to get it probably at the same time as the ps2 version.  ps2 just has a much larger install base, i think up to 4x more than xbox and gc, so it would sell a lot more on the ps2.

Hey guys think about this. I think that MGS:3 will come out on Gamecube because of that IGNcube post, but then i thought that it would be stupid to skip MGS:2. so what if twin snakes refers to two games. just a suggestion.

Personally, I just want to sweep the MGS2 under the rug and try to forget about it.  It tarnishes the Metal Gear name.  (Much like Snake's Revenge)
