Each Power Rangers series is technically part of the same universe, although for all intents and purposes they are seperate since there is almost no crossover.

There was no Power Rangers season last year because Disney didn't feel like converting that years Sentei series (which was more Japanese focused than normal, to the point that it would have been very difficult to make it feel like it's set in America). Now that Saban has bought back the rights, next Spring they will air the 18th season and it will be on Nickelodeon (the last few seasons had been airing on Disney XD). They will air 40 episodes, bringing the franchise up to over 700. The last season I watched was Power Rangers in Space, which was the sixth season and the last to feature characters starring in more than one season (after that, every season would feature a new batch of Rangers).

for power rangers....

well think of the original American might morphin power rangers plot

An alien queen from outer space, has built a base on the moon. She seeks to make Earth a part of her dominion. She has futuristic technology and manufactures gargantuan sized creatures with building destroying strangth.

However this is not the first time conflict has been put upon earth. Eons ago, another alien had taken base on the planet and sought to help the primative earthlings fight her forces. So he built these giant mechs that could battle her creatures.

His name is Zordon and he has an assistant robot.
Not only did her build giant mechs, he gave the powerful exo suits that made them fight creatures called putties.

He assembles a team of badasses

and has them wear the suits

but as it turns out Rita is just miniscule compared to other alien invaders

if you take the plot and think outside the confines of original designs than it sounds really good, if they were to spend a movies budget on the first couple of episodes than the production value would carry over. It worked for Lost for a couple of seasons, and it worked for the third season of Batman the Tv show, after they made the movie they had a bunch of assets from the movie to use in episodes.

I'd really like to see a giant rubber monster suit battle with Cthulhu. Too bad the Power Rangers would all go insane in the battle. We'd have to have...

Godzilla vs. Cthulhu!

Well, the Justice League fought Cthulhu's sibling, Icthulhu...

I think The Bionic Woman had great potential, but the writing and plotlines were crap, which is why the show failed.

There's way too much sci-fi in this thread.

We need to get Twin Peaks back. Let's forget the majority of the second season and do it right! Come on, Lynch!

I agree with this 100%.  The first 1.5 seasons were great.  Then it started to suck, but the last couple episodes were top-notch.  And it ended on such a cliff-hanger!

Also, while I don't really want to bring this back now--mostly because all the actors are way too old for it now--I wouldn't have minded another season or two of Freaks & Geeks.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I didn't like Freaks & Geeks or its spiritual successor, Undeclared.

Has anyone noticed that the brunette from Undeclared has gone on to play an unbroken series of "nekkid chick" roles, including Californication, Sarah Marshall, Carnivale, Get Him to the Greek, and like two others that I can't think of off the top of my head?

Teddy Ruxpin. It totally ended on a mysterious cliffhanger and I need new songs to replace the old ones still stuck in my head.

Everyone sing along:

Cause you're my dad,
I'm your dad,
You're my dad
I'm your dad
You're my dad
and I'm glad
we're together again.

As a kid I didn't care for Teddy Ruxpin.  I thought he was a wimpy do-gooder and I hated characters like that when I was a kid.  Of course I can't really remember much of the show at all (I remember some flying owl dudes in armour and a line of a song that said "do the octopede shuffle") so I can't say for sure if that assessment of Teddy's character is accurate.

The thing that's funny is despite not really liking the show I watched it quite a lot.  As a kid there was this weird sort of rule that if a cartoon is on, and there is not some conflicting cartoon that I would rather be watching, I had to watch it.  Somehow watching a cartoon I didn't like was still better than not watching TV at all.  I had my favourites, the shows I was indifferent to, and the ones I hated and if they all came in some big block on Saturday morning or on a weekday afternoon I watched ALL of them.  I would never do this as an adult.

Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers was another show that I watched probably every episode of but didn't really like because the Rangers were a bunch of square do-gooders.  You might consider Batman a do-gooder since he is on the side of the law and such but he's not because he kicks the bad guys' asses.  Wimpy do-gooders defeat the enemy through the power of friendship and lame bullshit like that.  They're the schoolyard equivalent of the snitch who ruins everyone's fun.  Batman kicking a crook's ass and Bugs Bunny dropping anvils on Elmer Fudd's head are like the guy on the schoolyard who just punch the bullies in the face without involving any teachers.

As a kid it became very clear that in the school the teachers' rules more or less existed to ruin everyone's fun and that the only way to get a fair shake was to stand up to bullies yourself or with the help of your friends.  If some kid started beating you up you knew that you BOTH would get in trouble for "fighting" so you might as well fight back.  You could tell that talking to bullies and trying to make friends with them did not work at all and that those suggesting it were full of ****.  But that's essentially what Teddy and the Rescue Rangers and the Care Bears were all doing.  Even as a young kid I could immediately notice how unrealistic this was and was insulted that the creators of the show thought I would fall for it.  Batman, Bugs Bunny and the Ninja Turtles stood up for themselves with force and that was would worked on the schoolyard in real life so I got into it.  It's interesting that while concerned parents don't want violence in kids entertainment the honest truth is as a kid that's the only way to maintain order.  You can't reason with an 8 year old bully.  If you want him off your back you have to fight back because fear of getting his ass kicked is the only thing that his young immature brain can comprehend.  Kids relate to shows here the hero defeats clear bad guys with violent self-defense because it's something they understand.

yeah, when I was a very young kid, we didn't have other things to do so we ended up watching everything. We didn't have a Nintendo until I was 6, and before that we had a commodore 64, which I was either never allowed to use, or couldn't figure out. Actually, a couple of years ago I had a commodore emulator, and I couldn't figure that out either.

You guys must not have had back yards as children, huh? I recall only ever being invested in a few television shows (Pee-Wee, Wild America, Ninja Turtles). Otherwise I was in the forest building tepees and dueling my brother with wooden swords. I would have never watched television simply for the sake of watching it, regardless of like for the show.

My parents have an acre and live in a rural area so there was tons of room to play outside.  The thing is I live in the Pacific Northwest which in the fall and winter is infamous for a certain type of weather that forces you indoors.

Plus lacking a videogame system for most of my childhood watching TV and going outside were the only things I pretty much could do to entertain myself.  So if cartoons were on then that's what I'd do because there was going to be plenty of time where nothing was on and going outside was the only option.

I'm Marty Stouffer and this is Wild America

I love that show.

As a kid, my Mom limited tv to one hour a week. Unless she wasn't there :D I spent the majority of my time playing outside stealing material from new home sites and building tree forts. Really, it was just scrap wood and pallets. Sometimes we'd get lucky by finding a full plywood sheet just laying around.

I got more invested in watching TV as I got into my teen years, also corresponding with the height of the commercial toon, what with Thundercats, MASK, Transformers, GI Joe, Visionaries, COPS, Real Ghostbusters, Bionic Six, Super Friends, etc... And then nightly programs like Star Trek, TNG, America's Funniest Videos, Dr Who, Perfect Strangers, Who's the Boss, Family Matters, Growing Pains, the best Saturday Night Live with Mike Myers and Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman (R.I.P.) and Chris Farley (R.I.P.).

I don't watch tv much anymore. They don't make tv like they used to.

when I was very young we had a small back yard, not much to do.

I could play on my horsie, play ghostbusters with friends, and not much out. When I was 8 we got a rural house with 2 acres of land + woods. So when we weren't playing Sega and Nintendo or watching Fox Kids or other cartoons blocks we were at the tree house we built.

No snowball fights? :P

Plenty of fun things to do inside too... My brother and I had several storage tubs full of Legos, which took up most of the floor space in my bedroom when built into long-standing towns.

Was I the only one who didn't bother making my own stuff from LEGOs? I was always perfectly happy with the stuff the instructions instructed you to build. Using that method, I had a thriving medieval civilization in my room, and had absolutely no inclination to make sh*t up. 99% of my friends, however, build their own stuff.

I liked the old space stuff and the old castle stuff. Quite often, time warps would pull the spacemen into the forgotten past, only to be plagued by skeleton armies and fire-breathing dragons!

I would always build the set, play with it for a few days, then tear it down and use the parts for my own stuff. The prefab sets were usually pretty mundane compared to a child's creativity. If it hadn't been for all the clashing colors, that town would have looked pretty darn cool. :P

I used to (and may still, for that matter) own a fully-functional Lego monorail set.  I used to play with Legos (and Duplos and Lincoln Logs) all the time, usually recreating various theme park rides and whatnot I'd seen at Disneyworld recently.  I remember my Tower of Terror with manually-operated elevator and set-pieces to be pretty badass.  I kept that thing together for weeks.   ;)

I remember buying Metroplex, the transformer. It came in a fairly large box with styrofoam all around it. I cut and glued and taped to that styrofoam and made my own Superpowers base... lol. No, glue and tape doesn't work very well with styrofoam. But I had a good time with Darkseid and Wonder Woman.  o_O

Not familiar with Pacific Northwest weather I see.  :D   It snows like two or three times a year.  No, the winter weather is RAIN.  Lots and lots of RAIN which even if you want to play in it your Mom is certainly not going to allow you to.

Yeah, and even when it does get around to snowing, it lasts for about five hours at the most. Every other year or so, there will be a snowstorm that will leave snow for at most a week, but it's icy and painful to have snowball fights with.
