Well good, but they said the offer is only good till June 15th. That's when I assume it goes back to the regular 14 day trial.

OMG! It happened! D/L the Netflix channed from the Wii Shop and stream to your hearts content disc free!

Just D/L'd it. It's got a nicer looking interface and seems to only take a little bit longer to load than the disc version. I like how you can 'coverflow' up and down through different categories now.

Huh. I got the email right before I posted about it. I then checked the first page of NWR news articles via the forum talkback section and didn't see an article posted. Assuming it was announced the day I got the email I just went on and posted about it. Not seeing anything about it mentioned in the Netflix thread confirmed my assumption that it was a brand new announcement.

It's too bad the disc version no longer works, because I was curious about every little thing that changed. The obvious one is the search feature, and you can cycle through categories by pressing up and down on the D-pad, but there are other changes too, like descriptions appearing when you point at a title, and the background colour is much darker, I wonder if people worried about screen burn-in. There might be other small changes like that...

The disc version no longer works?  Yay!

Anyone ready to give up their 1.0.1 disc yet? ;)

One thing I like about this update is that I can now watch 3 to 4 different Netflix steams at the same time using my 3 Wiis and my computer.

Is there anything stopping me from using this on my sister's Wii at my folks place at the same time I'm watching something at my apartment?

Not that I know of. Next time I goto my  mom's house, I'm hooking the third Wii up with Netflix, so I'll let you know if you don't try it yourself before then.

I could have sworn that you could only have one stream going at a time... otherwise, what's to stop one of us from signing up for Netflix and every forum member from using the stream?

I tried it yesterday.

I have a computer and my Black Wii in the bedroom and a White Wii in the livingroom.
normally you could only have 1 stream running at a time as I tried it many times back at my moms house when we had a computer downstairs and one upstairs. but that was on 2 computers on the same connection.

Yesterday I installed the Netflix app on both the Wiis I have here (40mb download? it took literally 7 seconds after a system update). I fired up Pippi Longstockings on one, loaded up Inspector gadget on the other and started a movie on the computer and they all kept playing and are all hooked up through the same internet connection.

My next test is to see if I can stream here and get my mom streaming from her place at the same time using my account.

If Netflix lets this continue, I'm sure they will at the very least run an IP address check so that multiple streams have to be running through the same internet connect. Otherwise I expect massive increases in bandwidth usage not matched with the same increase in subscriber base.

It should work for another week or two. When I downloaded the PS3 update it said the disc would stop working in 30 days, that was on October 14 (the same day the Wii got the update). I ordered the Wii disc too when Netflix allowed me too, although I won't need it (I haven't even opened it, maybe it will be worth money in the future).

It used to be worth coins when you registered it on Club Nintendo. Not sure if that's still the case.

I meant as a collectable. In 10 or 20 years I could see this getting a decent amount of money (especially if it is still unwrapped in its original envelope.)

Collectors can be pretty stupid sometimes, but I think it's pretty unlikely someone will be willing to pay for a mint-in-envelope Wii Netflix disc.

I tried the disc a day after the channel became available and it gave me a message that said (I forget the exact wording) that the disc service was no longer available and to download the new channel from the Wii Shop, then it forced me to return to the Wii Menu.

The disc probably won't ever be worth money because it isn't a rare item, it won't be any more valuable than all of the unopened third-party accessories floating around for old systems.

Yeah, I don't expect the discs to be worth much anytime in the next 100 or so years.  Just a neat conversation piece.

Whoo-hoo!  Just got v1.0.1 from an eBay seller for $4 (one cent plus $3.99 shipping!).  Yay!  Now to get a red add-a-page DVD thingee..

*edit* for anyone curious, here's my evil plans...

I have spare Red Wii DVD cases from the Hollywood Video stores that closed (scored 3 - whoo!), so my Wii Netflix Disc is already stored in one.

Custom cover printed out from TheCoverProject.net.  They have a version for the red cases (with the red spine/system bar) and a version for white cases, for all you out there without extra red cases.

Then, there's an eBay seller who's got virtually everything in regards to CD/DVD storage that I've dealt with and is always a pleasure to deal with (http://cdprofessionals.com/).  They hooked me up with a couple of the white DVD add-a-pages.  These neat little things clip into the standard Wii cases (in the little slots some people use to hold SD cards) and hold one or two additional discs (the ones I got hold two).  I sent them an e-mail to see if they have red ones - here's hoping.  You can see what I'm talking about here:

So, yay!

Just so I can have the "set".  I'm tempted to get a small (~64MB) SD card to download/save the channel onto for my "set".
