I just popped my Netflix disc in.
First it flickers some wiimote Netflix controls by on the screen, a little too quick for me to see them. I don't think I was pressing any buttons, but I was settling down to get comfortable. Immediately afterwards a new screen pops up that tells you to goto Netflix.com/Wii and enter your activation code that they provide right there on the screen (I imagine you need to be logged in).
I decided to check out Dollhouse season 1 so I added it to my queue while i was still on the computer. It then took about 10 seconds for the activation to activate and the Wii to load up the Instant Watch selection. (note: You can add movies to your queue from the Instant Watch selection right from your Wii)
First thing of notice, I can browse my Instant Watch Queue by the title cover(as opposed to the title list that is provided on the computer) and instantly move through the categories(such as Horror, TV, Action, etc., etc.) by pressing up and down. The covers were a little blurry making the titles hard to read, but luckily the title is also displayed at the bottom of the screen.
As I was browsing through the selection, I accidentally clicked on the wrong title. It started rather quickly and even picked up from where I had left off last time I checked it out... about 10 minutes in.
After exiting, finding Dollhouse in my queue and starting the show, which also started really quickly, I noticed that the quality of video was pretty good. I would say DVD quality without a doubt. This is a relief since the crappy laptop I'm using right now for Netflix streaming varies in video quality depend system resources which affect my connection speed.
Next, the onscreen display is nice. It's minimalist and easy to use. Tells you where you are in the video and how long the video is. Using fastforward/rewind immediately takes you to the Scene View mode so that you know where you are rewinding/fastforwarding to. and the onscreen display only pops up when you move the cursor up onto the screen, and then disappears soon after you move it away.
I might add some comparison pics later, but I would like to wrap this up by saying that video playback is smooth(no screen tearing), loading is almost identical to the PC(video loaded in under 10 seconds) and image quality is about the same as DVD.
I would say that this laptop has now been retired from Netflix on TV playback and will now only be used for Hulu and Xfinity when necessary. That is until I bring my PC over here and hook it up.
Netflix on Wii - 4.5/5 stars
It would be perfect if it didn't require me to put the disc in everytime. A feature that I'm sure is coming in the future.
