There is a key difference there. You buy Virtual Console games, you only rent Netflix movies.

yet I can use my rented streaming material anywhere I can log in and stream it, but I can use my VC games that I bought across both Wii's that I own(even if they share the same IP address)?

that makes perfect sense..... please explain it again for the rest of the class.

Nintendo doesn't want more than one person to be able to own their download games so they don't want them to be able to be copied to more than one system. I'm sure there would be a way to create some sort of universal account which could allow you to play the games on more than one system but not actually keep them on more than one, but Nintendo isn't a technology corporation so they probably don't know how to create something like that. Or maybe they wouldn't want to do it because of the potential for abuse. Nintendo likes to protect its properties.

I'm not gonna make excuses for their oversights.

they should make it so that I have a home Wii and a remote access to my games.
While I am using remote access, all I have to do is log in as guest on someone elses Wii and it will let me put the game on the Wii onboard memory. As long as I don't exit the game, then we can play it freely but as soon as I exit the game, I will have to log back into my remote account to play it again. They could even make it so that I have to re-download it to re-play it since it was only stored in the RAM of the system and never actually saved. But your Home Wii must have WiiConnect24 activated for remote play to be available.

And for people that own more than one Wii on the same internet connection, you should be able to connect them like a wireless home network and share your own content between them that way. Download all your stuff to one wii and remote play it from the main home Wii while it is connected to WC24.

This is something Nintendo should have taken care of when the next system arrives.

Oh yeah, I don't like it either, I just can understand why it is set up as it is. That sounds like a good way to run the service, it'd be nice if they overhauled it like that when their next system is released, especially because I'm sure people will want to transfer their games to the new system.

So there is some videos up on the net of Netflix on Wii.

http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=118620

I am a bit interested in this since I like to watch shows online using my Wii.
I don't have a Netflix account so I am not really sure on what kind of selection they have. Do they have anime on Netflix?

Do you have to have a subscription to netflix to have access to Netflix on Wii?

Maxi, you need a Netflix account to use streaming, whether it's to your PC or to your Wii.  The cheapest plan that gives you unlimited streaming is $8.99/month.  That'll get you unlimited DVD rentals (one disc at a time) plus unlimited streaming.

Anime titles available for instant streaming can be found here.  I don't watch anime, but there are quite a few titles on the list that I recognize (Avatar, Ghost in the Shell, Macross Plus, etc.)

I got the disc today and I like it. The streaming is fast and finding something to watch is easy. I don't know if the quality is better on other systems, but if you don't have another console then by all means get this set up.

Has anyone got one of these Netflix discs for more than 1 system? Does Netflix just let you ask for more than 1? What I mean is, could I ask Netflix to send me both a PS3 disc and a Wii disc (or Wii and Xbox 360, etc.)?

I'll be able to answer that question in a few days, hopefully.  I have a PS3 disc--even though I don't have a PS3--and I requested a Wii disc, but it hasn't shipped yet.

Stupid me, I forgot that there is no Xbox 360 disc and that only PS3 and Wii require one.

Yes, the quality is better on other systems, since (at least on the 360) they are available in up to 1080p. I'm sure even the SD versions look better on 360 than on Wii.

I wish there was a similar service for Canada.  This isn't a big deal... but I'd definitely use Netflix if it was available here.

There is a key difference there. You buy Virtual Console games, you only rent Netflix movies.

You don't buy Virtual Console/Wii Ware/DSi Ware games either.  You license them. :(
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Netflix on 360 uses Silverlight, which can have nice results with very low bitrates. I don't know what Wii uses for Netflix, but I'm assuming it's FlashLite 3.1 like in Opera/Nintendo Channel, which at it's best, looks pretty poor.

That's a pretty big technicality. Licensing is just renting for a higher price.

But also for a longer period of time. We don't yet know how long we'll get to keep our downloaded games...
