wow.  you can have a character on your go-kart.  it looks like another player can take control of that character to fire/throw items, and punch and kick your opponent off their go-kart?  hmmm?

check out yoshi with baby mario in the second screenshot!  ha!  and i like Brower's go-kart!

i'm still trying to figure out what Miyamoto meant by saying that the screenshots would reveal what type of game it is?  maybe he meant that?

I dont want to sound down but all i really care about is if it plays like the original. I liked the semi short courses and the tight corners. The best thing was jumping out sideways. It was great for dodging obsticles. Also the shrinking ability is great! I just about always play small, its really hard but far more fun (press a and y together at the player select screen).

The graffics may not be ground breaking, but who cares. Mario Kart isnt a realist racer. It is however one of the funest games I have every played (Mario Kart 64). I wonder if they included a designer mode where you can make your own tracks. Forget making racing tracks 'cause those prob wouldnt turn out good, but I would like to be able to make my own battle arenas. Ive been looking forward to this game for a while and now its finally here

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the graphics as of now.  Look at the Pikmin 2 graphics, obviously they're going to be better (because the original look much better).

As far as the 1 person, 2 character thing goes, you'll likely control the attacking character with the c-stick, so you'll be able to shoot in any direction.  much better than simply "shoot in front, hey, where'd that item come from?"

Also, you'll notice that one of the screens has a different-colored peach.  That means that there's certainly different costumes but, perhaps more importantly, you can play as the same character as someone else.  Finally!

I dont know why no-one has noticed this yet (with gamespot even saying it might be pauline from the original donkey kong) but that "different coloured peach is princess daisy.

Also wouldnt it be hard to press c-stick at the same time as accelerating plus I like only being able to shoot in one direction cause it was more skillful, but Ill reserve my judgement till I play it.

Holy crap, that's right! I forgot Mario Kart is finished! The graphics are going to be that bad  Seriously, those graphics just flat out suck. It doesn't look like a GameCube game. Dreamcast could easily push those graphics. Heck, Dreamcast could do 2 times those graphics.

But as long as it's fun it doesn't matter.

So, first of all Dreamcast could not push those graphics, secondly, screens never do justice to the final project, and finally, who cares about graphics when its MARIO KART! Yes the graphics arent overwhelming but solid, and nothing else matters.

I think the graphics are just fine.
People need to stop judging graphics by how technically impressive they are and start judging them by how appropriate they are for the game. Nintendo is obviously just trying to retain the simplistic and cartoonish atmosphere of the original game. Ultra-detailed, realistic textures just wouldn't look right in Mario Kart.
Some parts of the screenshots make the game seem blurry or jagged but I'm sure that's just in the screenshots and not the actual game. That's been the case with several of Nintendo's past GCN titles. For whatever reason, Nintendo's games just don't photograph well.
