But I have my own story about a purchase. It's a purchase my mom made several months back.
Christmas Tree -

/

So my mom went to Gottschalks during it's going out of business sale and finds a great deal on a plastic Xmas Tree w/ the lights already attached. She got a $200 tree for $25 and has been bragging to everyone about it since. Today we open it and try to put it together (sorry I don't have any pics.... yet). So first thing I take out is the base, pretty simple and sturdy. Next I take out the tree parts and the screws. The parts of the tree itself were heavy and all labeled with letters for easy identification, "A", "B", "C" & "D".
Now you figure that this tree is gonna go in 1 of 2 directions. Either you start at "A" and end with "D", or you start with "D" and end with "A". Considering that "A" was huge and "D" was small, you would think the former, but according to the instruction booklet, it's all 3..... yes I said all 3. On the left side in text, you start from "A" at the bottom and work your way up to "B" and then "C", no mention of "D" at all. On the right side in text it says that you start at "E" on the bottom(E...!? WTF?) and work your way up to "D", "C", "B" and then "A". But in the picture in the middle.... I couldn't even explain it because it made no sense at all. The picture assembly looked like it started from the top pic and then the pic below and so on and so forth, but what they were showing didn't make any sense with the pieces I had to assemble. Maybe you read it from the bottom pic up, I have no idea, but either way it made no sense.
After about 15 minutes of frustration and confusion, I just start putting the damn tree together. It turns out that the entire tree was assembled upsidedown. I don't mean I put it together in the wrong order and didn't realize to turn it over, I mean the peak of the tree was pointing at the spike that fits into the base that holds up the tree. If I put the entire tree together the only way it would fit, the widest part of the tree would be 7' in the air with the tip(where the star goes) connected to the base stand.
It was also one of those trees that fold out automatically and all the limbs would fold out properly if stacked upsidedown(the only way it would assemble). If I then turned the tree rightside up, gravity would fold the tree limbs back up(like an umbrella) and all the tree limbs would be pointing towards the ground. It just wasn't gonna work no matter how you look at it.
What sux is that the store it was bought from is long gone (Spirit Halloween Store took over that location back in October) and there isn't even a brand or manufacturer listed on the tree to complain to. The tree was literally manufactured upside down.
Next time I go to my moms house, I will assemble it real quick and try to take a picture. I only partially put it together today.
