This game does sound pretty cool, which is exactly why I'm doing my best to avoid the coverage of it and all other PS3 games. I fear that if I pay attention to them I'll buy a PS3, because there's no real financial reason I can't buy one and I have very little self-control when it comes to buying things that I want.

This will likely be the first game that's worth buying a PS3 for.  It will TRULY be an experience you can't get elsewhere.

Yes, but I have at least a couple dozen unplayed Wii and 360 games sitting here. It doesn't make any practical sense for me to buy a third console when I don't have the time to cover everything on the two I already own. As I've said before, if Sony were to offer real backwards compatibility I don't think I'd be able to resist, but since they aren't going to do that I'm doing my best to remain completely ignorant of the platform to prevent myself from buying one.

That's an old and tired argument though. How many times is that said? The original Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Resistance 2. On and on. I'm not saying that its not true, its just old. Just as with the Gamecube and how these great games came out for it, yet they were ignored.

I would say that if a person hasn't been convinced of the PS3 by now, they never will. Now is just a good time for people who couldn't afford one to get one.

I wouldn't say that Dragon Age is generic, but I would say that it's yet another entry in a genre that's been done to death.

Meanwhile, the "jungle adventure" sub-genre really hasn't had any worthwhile entries for a long time outside of the Tomb Raider franchise (maybe a couple of Indiana Jones titles, but they're very spotty in terms of quality), so it blows my mind that anybody could dismiss it as generic.  Even the first game, while repetitive, was a vastly different experience from anything that I'd played previously because of how all of its elements were so seamlessly blended.

Anybody dismissing this game as a pretty graphics demo really needs to get their head out of the sand.

Rright, a game that is built around moral choices and consequences that maybe comes out twice a year is overdone compared to the action genre? Not to mention it is created by Naughty Dog who not known for their innovation in game design, they make very good, polished action games, but innovative? Not really, they are good at borrowing elements from other games but that is about it. The one game they made that I truly loved was the first Jak and  Daxter, but I wouldn't classify it as innovative, well put together? Yeah.

Uncharted is basically like an action movie with a mixture of different action elements similar to many other games out there (Heck even the CoD series does similar things in regards to mixing things up). Yeah the setting may be different but that is primarily it.Not to mention the fact that people, GASP, may not care much for action games in general, so why should they buy a PS3 for Uncharted?

Also KDR, I believe I said they've addressed the moral consequences thing to make it more realistic. Dragon Age is evolving the genre to new heights, and Bioware is pretty much unmatched when it comes to crafting content based upon your choices.

If your initial reaction to this is frustration, you are a Nintendo fanboy. At the end of the day you should want to play fantastic games. Who cares what system it comes out on.  It's no differnt than the legions of people like Sean Malstrom who champion motion controls but for some odd reason they openly state they want Natal and the Sony wand to fail.  Gamers need to grow up. Movie buffs could care less what company releases new movies. They just want them to be good.

That said, if the sequel is anything like the first one, it will certainly live up to the hype.  Can't wait!
Nah, we're just having good ol' dumb fun.

I think it took him 6 hours.

Doubledash didn't get the overly-warm reception that the other games listed here got, but I do seem to remember some reviews gushing over it (like EGM's).  As for Sunshine, that experience was sour to begin with and over time it just got worse as people slowly realized how we'd all been suckered with such a mediocre game.

That's my biggest concern with the game.  (Actually, it's my biggest concern with lots of PS3 and 360 titles.)  I don't really care about multiplayer so that's not a selling point for me.

If/when I get a PS3 I can see myself buying lots of games used on Amazon and then selling them when I'm finished.  It's funny (and off-topic) because that's something I would never do with a Nintendo console.  I suppose it's the secret, inner fanboy in me, but I don't really care about having a huge game library of games for non-Nintendo consoles.  Anyone else have this problem?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Me. I had a Sega Genesis which broke, but instead of replacing it I sold off the games. A similar deal happened with an XBox I had; it was stolen, and instead of buying another I sold the few games still in my position. The only non-Nintendo system I currently have is a PlayStation which I have 15 games for, some of which I plan to sell, and I had quite a few others I've already sold.

He's got to be some sort of gaming freak to finish in 6 hours though.  Like all linear games, the length is very much limited by the tight connection between the gameplay and the plot, and at least the first uncharted was hardly the longest game around, but it certainly took me a few days (a very enjoyable few days) -- and I immediately started over again because it was so much darn fun.   Yes that's right, it's fun!

[They also throw in some sort of treasure collecting and medals for reaching various objectives, to try and up the replay value (whence you can get various abilities like my favorite, super-slow-motion -- go back and fight tough fights feeling like you're keanu reeves in the matrix....), and of course the multi-player is intended to offer even more replayability.]

Anyway, if a game is fun enough, I'll buy it.  The modern obsession with long drawn out games is understandable in some ways, but at some point becomes ridiculous; length is only one element among many that makes a game worth buying...

I suppose you could finish it in six hours, but those are a fun six hours.  And you could trot out that "It's not long, therefore it sucks" argument for lots of good games, like the original Metal Gear Solid for instance.

As for not getting the experience elsewhere...if you want Killzone or MGS you can play them on other consoles, and you can always play Resistance 1.  You could play the first Uncharted, but the sequel is likely to be leaps and bounds better from all accounts.  For that matter, I haven't see anything like the first Uncharted anywhere else either.

Yes, there are plenty of "action" games, but that's a pretty broad brush you're using GP.  Oh, the RPG genre is so overdone, Dragon Age is just a waste of my time.  No, no, I don't care about any of the details, because it's in the RPG genre and that = overdone to me, I'm going to dismiss it out of hand.  My "done to death" comment was referring to its setting (high fantasy), not its game genre.

Just stating what happened. He bought and beat it the same day. It cost him nothing but the cost of gas. Wait no it didn't. He walked to the store. Ok so forget about the gas, it cost him nothing but time to walk there and back twice.

So I got the review copy of this and I've been playing it nonstop this weekend. It's pretty amazing.

It easily has some of the best storytelling I've seen in a game, and the characters are so emotive and full of life it's actually enjoyable to just sit there and watch the cutscenes and listen to the dialog. I'm on track to beat the game with 10 hours of time invested. While it is on the short side, it's worth noting that it's a rollercoaster 10 hours that features one of the best and most fun sequences I have played in a game in a very long time.

Imagine Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, and then imagine it as a video game with a bit more shooting and action, and that's Uncharted 2. I haven't played the first one, so I can't compare the two, but I will say this is one of the best titles on the PS3.

If you aren't into the multiplayer, go ahead and rent the game, it's something you can definitely best in a weekend. I have a feeling that I'll go back through the game on the hardest difficulty setting because I am definitely having enough fun the first time through that I'd be interested in playing it again (this is pretty rare for me).

I guess you can put me up on the list of people playing Uncharted 2 when it comes out.  I'm clearing-out my backlog of games I don't think I'm going to get around to finishing or want to keep, and I think I'll have just enough cash for Uncharted 2.  I thought about picking up A Boy and His Blob instead, but I'm in something of a shooter mood right now after playing 80+ hours of Persona 4.

My review will be going up on PixlBit today, but I finished the game yesterday in exactly 10 hrs and 4 mins and it was honestly the perfect length. Right when I felt like I was sick of shooting things, the last section of the game arrived.

Also, there are actually two totally awesome sequences in this game as my play-through last night revealed. I don't know how they thought these particular parts up, but they were masterfully done.

Dammit, Nick.

Now I have to play the Uncharted games. I'm already going broke on Brutal Legend and Batman.

As for the "game to own the system for," it's entirely dependant on the kind of game you like. For me, it's LittleBigPlanet and MGS4. Actually, it WAS MGS4. I bought that game before I owned a system, seriously. I played it on a friend's PS3. The second game I bought was Ratchet & Clank, another series I absolutely adore.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

True.  For me it was Motorstorm Pacific Rift.  Pretty sure I'm the only one that bought the system for it.  But considering I've been playing it on a regular basis over the past year, it was money well spent.

So the review just went up if anyone is interested, but I settled on a 5/5. I went back and forth with giving it a 4.5/5, but in reality, this is one of the best games I've played this generation. I'd definitely suggest grabbing this one up if you have the funds. If not, at least rent the damn thing because it's worth the ten hours of your life it'll take you to beat it.
