So, I wrote a story that got published...
« on: August 22, 2009, 01:06:31 AM »
..In a book. I have been practicing writing fiction for a while now and submitted a story to a classified ad that my grandma clipped out of the paper for me. The publisher liked my story and put it in his anthology. The book is called Dead Night in Spokane, and it's a collection of crime short stories. My story is called Firebug, and it involves a pyromaniac. I named one of my characters Evan after Evan Burchfield (but a different personality)

Anyway, I just got back from my first reading and signing at a local bookstore and had a good time. I asked Pap64 and Pale about putting a link to the book on Amazon and they said it was okay as long as I didn't force anyone to buy my book. buy a minimum of three copies or I will break your arm.

good job dude. I'v been interesting in writing myself. I think it is a natural transition from constant forum posts to writing. I've ntoiced though that as soon as i start writing i get a bit of block. I've been writing a script for like 3 years and only have 57 pages. I think i'll start writing again though. I have great ideas in my head, but getting them out is the problem.

One of my firends wrote this book
http://books.google.com/books?id=gzSmnVRq-B0C&dq=sindelar+therese&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=eTYt1l2-_n&sig=lWBd1uX5mJ1d8kAhFFjKXp8lSfA&hl=en&ei=iZKPSt3AA5KyswOFmpAM&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1#v=onepage&q=&f=false

I have a signed copy. I've had it for a couple of years, but i still haven't read it. I read one of her short stories though which was awesome.

I did a small press comic book called Alien Force. The company is out of business and now some other publishing outfit has their name. Darned if I can't remember it though.

This is the passage I read last night.

Quote
"Hey, did you know pyromania is pretty rare? It usually exhibits itself in young males and they sometimes derive sexual satisfaction from watching their target burn, it's called Pyrophillia. They also don't set something on fire and leave, they get the enjoyment from watching the burning.â€

“Fantastic. Look, I'm going to load one of my dad's shotguns and set it next to my bed tonight. Home invasion laws means I can shoot anyone who comes inside the house right?â€

“I don't think it's supposed to work quite like that. Besides, couldn't they just set your house on fire from the outside?â€

I hung up on Evan at that point. What if they got rid of Rufus so he wouldn't bark while they were spraying gasoline on the side of our house tonight? I knew I wasn't going to sleep well.

One of the most miserable feelings in the whole entire world is a waking up in the middle of the night and it's still hot and dry even though the sun has went down, but you still have goosebumps because you're creeped out that you are next on a pyro's hit list. I drug myself to the bathroom for a drink of water. Things looked normal, I decided to peak into Lucy's room. Lucy wasn't there.

I think this is pretty damn cool.  Way to go!

I have a friend who was published in an anthology.  He never told me.  I found out second hand.  And this isn't like some friend I see once every two years.  This is one of my best friends that I see at least once a week.  I have no idea why this big news wasn't something he immediately shared with everyone.

You said you got published, but was it a one time "hey, you got published!" payment, or do you get a small chunk from continued sales?

or was the payment for doing the book signing?

Payment for first printing then royalties for additional printings.

Maybe I can make a copy of the book a mafia prize. Does that sound narcissistic?
