Google's Picasa... WTF!!!??????????????
« on: August 14, 2009, 12:15:26 AM »
So I got a few documents that I need a client to sign and the Processor at my work sends them to my e-mail in a .tif file attachment. I have no way of viewing a .tif file on my computer, so I use google search and input ".tif viewer". Picasa is the very first result, so I download and install it.

The program launches and all is good. "Look for files all over computer"? sure, why not. So now I'm seeing all these pictures pop up that I haven't seen in a while and quote a few that I've never seen before (probably from my sister for her social networking site of choice). Thats when I start scrolling through them to find the .tif file. Only.... WTF..... how did that picture get on there? and that pic and that pic and all of these pictures!!!!! :o

Somehow, Google's Picasa started pulling personal photos off of my cell phone, which was in my pocket, and was loading them onto my mom's computer.....  :-[  not just pictures that I don't want her to see, but about a dozen or more pics that I'm sure she doesn't want to see.

I grab my phone out of my pocket to compare to whats showing up on the computer vs what I've recently put on my phone & was fuckin shocked!!! About 60% of the pics on my phone were now loaded up on Google's Picasa & I have no idea how the hell that happened.

I know why that happened.

You see, when you hook up your phone to your computer through bluetooth or usb, it acts like a storage device. Google asked you "Can I look through your computer drives for images?" You said yes and so it looked through your harddrives then moved onto to your phone, pulling everything it saw.

My phone was in my pocket. It was in no way connected to the computer.
The only think I can think of is that a year ago I might have put the memory card from my phone into the computer and the computer cached it somewhere and picasa found it.

I'm not at the house right now, but I might check into it a little further tomorrow if I go by there.
I was just shocked to see pics on the computer that I never put on the computer.

I'm back at my girls house and she just installed the program on her computer and pics that she had deleted years ago were popping up, so it much be the memory cache that it is pulling from or something.

If it cached it, it would have only stored the thumbnails. Check the resolution of those pics on your mom's compy. If the resi is tiny, your latter guess maybe right.

I hid them immediately since I didn't have the time to check it out thoroughly at the time. I'm going back there tomorrow, so I'll definitely check it out then.

I just hope that I can find where picasa hid them.
