Bond is back!
Forget Jurassic World, Star Wars, or The Avengers. This is my biggest must see movie of 2015!
And the poster!
I love it. It evokes memories of the bullet hole through the windshield of when Tracy Bond was killed at the end of On Her Majesty's Secret Service and that great tragedy in Bond's life. At the same time, the cracks start to spread down making the octopus logo that Spectre used. EON knows how to get hype going for the Bond franchise these days.
A lot of people are speculating that despite the press release of Christoph Waltz's role as having the name Oberhauser, he will actually be revealed to be Blofeld. As much as I like Christoph, I kind of hope that Sherlock's Moriarty aka Andrew Scott who is also in this movie would be revealed to be Blofeld as well. I just think he would make the better foil / antagonist.
At the same time, I'd have no problem if someone else entirely different is revealed to be Blofeld. Why hurry to face him. The Connery Bond movies took their time. In Dr. No, he encounters his first Spectre agent, Dr. No, and defeats him. Then Spectre enacts a plan of revenge by their number 3 agent approved by the mysterious head of Spectre. She is defeated. Goldfinger didn't tough on Spectre but they returned in Thunderball where Bond defeated the number 2 man in charge, Largo. Finally in the fifth movie, You Only Live Twice, Bond meet Blofeld face to face. He would battle Blofeld again in On Her Majesty's Secret Service where Blofeld got his biggest triumph over Bond by killing his wife and then they faced off one more time in the lame Diamonds are Forever which didn't resolve much but Bond sort of killed Blofeld in the end.
I'd be happy if the Bond movies followed that same approach and took their time to slowly dismantle the Spectre organization and pump up the Blofeld / Bond conflict. The only thing I see standing in the way of that is the fact the Craig's contract is up after this and the next Bond film and so they may not want to lose or replace him before having him fight Blofeld.
