Bayonetta
« on: July 20, 2009, 06:41:53 PM »
This game doesn't have a thread yet, so I just made one on account of they just announced it'll be coming in October for Japan, and January for western markets, a decision that I don't really understand.

in b4 anybody complaining about the sex appeal in the game

Last I heard this was on the 360 and PS3 so why is this in the Nintendo section.

Did I really post it in the Nintendo Consoles forum?

This game was awesome at E3. It was one of the few non-Nintendo system games I played and I couldn't get enough of it. It remedied so many of Devil May Cry's problems and felt so much smoother and more satisfying. If you are a fan of that series, you should be ecstatic for this title.

But isn't DMC old hat now?  Shouldn't we be stacking it against Ninja Gaiden, God of War, and Kameo?

Are you implying that Ninja Gaiden and God of War are better hack and slash games than Devil May Cry?

I wonder how much cheese Bayonetta will have in terms of story and voice acting.

At least CASHcom can't control Platnium. ;)

I watched one trailer, felt insulted by the blatant attempt to sell via sex appeal and "coolness" and put it on my "ignore" list. Since I hated DMC3 with a passion and people say it's like DMC I'm probably better off for it anyway.

Absolutely AWFUL camera that made a boss fight impossible because you couldn't see the projectiles you were supposed to deflect. That's totally game breaking IMO.

It sounds as though you're talking about a single specific boss fight. So you really let a tiny part of the game ruin the entire thing for you? That's pretty ignorant.

And you also seem to have not played any of the other DMC games, based on your terminology. And who's to say anything you found wrong with DMC3 will be wrong with Bayonetta?

What KDR is stating is true in terms of the camera. The first boss fight was kind of frustrating because you sometimes couldn't see where the spector was going to pop out at.

However, the camera isn't that awful. It's leagues better then the Sonic Adventure series camera, and the Warehog stages in Unleashed.

Alot of the boss battles are memorization, kind of like MadWorlds. (considering both were made by the same development team)

The game doesn't let me proceed past that no matter how much I open my mind so that's the only impression I can offer. It's that stupid worm that flies overhead and shoots energy balls at you which you deflect with the sword, the problem is that the camera moves slow like arse and immediately snaps back if you move, the enemy is above you but the camera insists on staying level so all you see of the projectiles is the small gap between your character's head and the top of the sceen which isn't enough to start the attack in time.

I didn't enjoy the rest of the game (the 2.5 levels up to that point) much either and it was off to a VERY bad start with the intro consisting of fight scenes that I didn't get to play and so much "coolness" it was as awkward as a marketing exec attempting street speech. I'm not even sure what I disliked about the rest, possibly the combat system or something but I found God of War pretty meh too so maybe I just don't like the brawler genre.

It kind of sucks because developers forgot what made brawlers fun in the first place.

TMNT Arcade Game and TMNT: Turtles in Time, best brawlers I ever played. What other brawler let's you beat the crap out of ninja in a burning apartment building? With cannon balls falling down stairs?

You don't really need the THE in the title to know what game it is.

And yes, Turtles In Time is better... on the SNES.

And arcade fire.

Yeah, but they also gave Nintendogs and the original Soul Calibur perfect 10's. Their credibility is suspect.

I like the concept of DMC but I just hated the controls. I don't really want fighting game controls in an action game. That's why I like God of War: Two attack buttons and hold R1 for special attacks. Mix 'n' match. DMC3 absolutely made my brain melt with its combos. I had to press three buttons to dodge. Sorry, that's not my bag.

Also, I keep hearing that the PS3 version of Bayonetta is half-broken. I'd otherwise be tempted to try it.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.
