HFCS has been proven to cause a lot of health issues. It is linked to many obesity cases.

But people have too much sweetener of any kind. Seriously, bread has HFCS.

W.T.F.

I want juice that is just juice. Nearly every kind has buckets of sugar/other sweetener. People have killer sweet tooths that need to be pulled. If you need to put sugar in your corn-flakes... :/

Eating too dang much is the main cause of weight gain!

BTW I know I could gain a lot of weight by drinking pure orange juice because I love that stuff!

Fructose - Sucrose - Glucose. It's all the same plus or minus a bit of atoms. The human body knows what to do with it, uses it, and needs some amount of it to function; Unlike artificial crap like Splenda and Aspartame, which at best just pass through you wasted, at worst breaks down into toxic chemicals like benzene and formaldehyde(embalming fluid)

I'll check the next time I buy bread. I usually buy whole wheat bread, so I should be safe right?

Right?

Is it a government conspiracy to put HFCS in as much food as possible?

There's a Whole Foods near my area. I'll check their juices, maybe do like a taste test or something with something comparable.

look at these scrubs. think they know about sweeteners

Know something we don't? Please share!

I do! I submit these statements for consideration:
*Cane sugar is the tastiest sweetener for 98% of sodas. One exception is Mountain Dew - you gotta have corn syrup for that full bodied flavor. The cane sugar kind tastes to me like it's a bit flat/watered down.
*Aspartame/splenda/nutrasweet is gross as hell. While I can't say if there's any credibility as to whether or not it's a carcinogen, it definitely is true that it tastes like ass. It also upsets my stomach even though I have no known allergies.

My creds: traveling around three continents and drinking every soda I could find. I once won a contest where I named a bunch of different brands of cola by taste alone. And I know some weird facts about sodas in general.

Agreed on all fronts.

Besides, artificial sweeteners are self-defeating: your body is craving sugar, not crap that tastes like sugar but will go through unused. You'll just want more sugar later. :p

Aspartame/splenda/nutrasweet

Ahem, nutrasweet and aspartame are the same thing, splenda is sucralose. Also about the body craving more sugar, I know diabetics who get through just fine on diet soda.

No, but your getting close. Its because in all the U.S. Governments vast regulating abilities, it taxes sugar quite a lot, for a very long time..  Prices stay high, so soda's and such started coming with HFCS because it is cheaper to put in the soda.

Forget wine tasting, soda tasting is the next wave! You should charge an exorbitant amount to restaurants so you can taste their soda for quality, freshness and purity.  8)

Right?

Probably not.  Most wheat breads contain HFCS, too.  The ones that don't generally indicate they don't use the ingredient right on the front of the packaging.

There is this one Oroweat brand bread I get called 'Health Nut' that doesn't use HFCS. Though I am concerned that breads that don't use it compensate with too much honey or other sweetener. When I was little my mom would make a lot of homemade bread. I'd like to do that again some day so I can get the type of bread I want exactly without having to hunt for an expensive specialty store.

A health article I just read says it pretty well:

Quote
The most important consideration in constructing a healthy diet: Eat whole foods that have had minimal processing.

What is the best diet for human beings?

Vegetarian? Vegan? High-protein? Low-fat? Dairy-Free?

Hold on to your shopping carts: There is no perfect diet for human beings. At least not one that's based on how much protein, fat or carbohydrates you eat.

People have lived and thrived on high-protein, high-fat diets (the Inuit of Greenland); on low-protein, high-carb diets (the indigenous peoples of southern Africa); on diets high in raw milk and cream (the people of the Loetschental Valley in Switzerland); diets high in saturated fat (the Trobriand Islanders) and even on diets in which animal blood is considered a staple (the Massai of Kenya and Tanzania). And folks have thrived on these diets without the ravages of degenerative diseases that are so epidemic in modern American life—heart disease, diabetes, obesity, neurodegenerative diseases, osteoporosis and cancer.

The only thing these diets have in common is that they're all based on whole foods with minimal processing. Nuts, berries, beans, raw milk, grass-fed meat. Whole, real, unprocessed food is almost always healthy, regardless of how many grams of carbs, protein or fat it contains.

Oh come on now, The low heart disease, diabetes and obesity are more directly related to the fact that all these people are getting more exercise than the modern sedentary lifestyle. Plus, I would imagine these cultures had a lower life expectancy than the modern 70-80 years. The shorter your life, the less odds of getting cancer or other diseases.

Le bump!

So I did do a taste by taking some Green tea with HFCS, and some that was made with cane sugar, from Whole Foods. More specifically, organic cane sugar if that makes a difference.

The HFCS has a more watery taste, while the other one, not so much.

However, the one with no HFCS came in 16 oz bottles, though they were on sale for 5 for 5 dollars, whereas the one with HFCS was 3.49 for 128. So I guess that cane sugar really is expensive...

Maybe I should do a taste test with my friends, see if they can tell the difference...

It's the ORGANIC label that is costing you more.

You pay more for something that is virtually the same only goes bad faster.
I just saw a study somewhere that stated Organic is no better for you than the other stuff on the shelf, just more expensive.

Organic just means no pesticides and other chemicals were exposed to the food when it was being made. It has not varying health properties outside of avoiding consumption fo these chemicals.

Though a lot of the organic companies also try to practice things like 'fair trade' and 'responsible farming'.
