First off I haven't had a Tiger game since 07, on Wii. As soon as I started up I got a sponsor bonus for being a previous customer, since the save is on my Wii.

So I got the Motion Plus, of course. Ran through the standard difficulty tutorial. First couple shots were no problem. Then you have to naturally draw/fade, twisting your wrists. First one I shanked way left into the water. No problem after that, adjusted aim a little better. Only other shot I missed was the putt. Hit it a little too soft. With regular swings I tend to look down in my normal golf stance, and not at the screen while swinging. With putts, I had to work to keep my head on the screen, looking at the putting distance %. Can't just do it on feel alone yet.
So I hit quick play, 18 holes at Banff Springs (par 71), as Tiger. Of course playing as Tiger is hardly fair. I reached all the par 5s in two. Speaking of that, there's a nice pulse-pounding moment when you're going for the green. Wiimote shaking in your hands, it's fun.
So I bogeyed two holes. Both times were 3 putts, where I just barely got on the green, didn't get my long putt within 8 feet, and missed the medium putts for par. The putting meter is clearly labeled, the putt preview thing is accurate, etc... I just couldn't quite get the feel. Sometimes I would take it back too far, and try to soften through the swing, which ended up being too soft. I later remembered that letting go of B cancels swing, so that helped me start getting my distances right.
I still can't quite get the feel of drives, mostly hitting between 80-90%. I think I rush my swing, and don't take a complete backswing, which is a real-life golf problem for me... I don't get the distance some of my friends do. So at least it's consistent.

I did have some luck with pausing at the top of my backswing and then following through.
Anyway, my putting all came together at the end of the round, and I finished with 3 birdies on 15-17, and an eagle on the 18th for a 29 on the back, and a 62 overall.
Feels very good so far. I expect more challenge as my created self that can't quite hit as far as Tiger. But the swinging and putting feel great. No problems like the old game of accidental swings, or mishits. And much better at gauging my distance than in Wii Sports or previous Tiger. Some of those 50-70% shots I did on chips I got within 10% of what I was aiming for, and had reasonable putts to try.
So very fun first round. Now I can't decide if I want to create-a-golfer or try disc golf next...
