Yeah, this is the point where you can say "okay, it's over."  It was such an effortless, easy concept: rip off Konami's Bemani series and use mainstream rock music that the Western audience would actually recognize.  It becomes a huge hit with gamers and non-gamers alike.  But they had to go and ruin it with corporate greed.  If Harmonix and Activision never split up and we didn't get multiple releases each year this could have been a series with legs.  It could have been an event type of game, with DLC to fill the void in the year's between.

But it's going to be regarded as a fad because these companies have no restraint and no patience.  The biggest videogame franchises are the ones where each game is an event and each game feels essential.  That usually means having to wait years between releases.  This is like Tony Hawk or Bomberman or Mega Man where the releases are so frequent and break so little ground that they're just there.  You buy one game to get your fix and then never keep up with the series again.

The point i've been banging on about for ages is that OTHER genre's exist. Strap two wii remotes (with motion+) to your arms and be a dancer in a music video. Something. ANYTHING.

If the price is decent, I see this easily outselling that rip-off $250 Beatles version (I am hoping the Beatles one bombs because of the price, it's moronic that these music games keep getting MORE expensive with every sequel).

Screenshots reveal that while the characters are made of Lego, the stage isn't.  So the point of this is what?  Shouldn't EVERYTHING in the game be made of Lego?  It may be a dumb idea but at least DO IT RIGHT!

Lego themed instruments would be pretty kick ass once I think about it.

For the record, Ian, this is Rock Band, not Guitar Hero.

Though with this and Rock Band Beatles looks like Rock Band is heading into GH territory.

The Lego series is also being milked like crazy. We have Lego Battles coming up, and there were rumors of Lego Harry Potter and Lego Indiana Jones 2 as well.

Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Harmonix isn't milking the franchise to the levels that Activision is.

Oh definitely.

I understand that Harmonix is not reaching Activision levels yet. BUT, if Lego Rock Band and Beatles do well for them, it might inspire them to release even more titles.

Rock Band seems to be the most respected of the two franchises so it would be sad to see it go down the drain.
