They're free to add someone totally new and better like how Mikami added Lisa Trevor in the REmake.

From the description it sounds like Yahtzee would like it more than the last few Silent Hill games.

Oh lol, i just imagined that Konami's next Wii project is a remake of Castlevania64.

It would be an awesome game. Whip remote action can be amazing.

Very interested in this! I like Silent Hill when my cousin played it on the ps1. The games have such a great atmosphere.

Great atmosphere, yeah, but the gameplay is pretty archaic. I hope they spruce up this game.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

They could learn from No More Heroes and implement that Waggle Flashlight that never needs battery replacement.

You're waggling, you're waggling, not paying attention, and when you least expect it THERE'S A KNOCK ON THE DOOR OMG WTF, FLACCID INTERRUPT, SCARED

Hawt enough for ya?

I think the "no combat" thing was an April Fool's joke. Silent Hill without fighting? I don't think it will work for me, or for the game, since there are many instances where you have to fight off those little flesh babies and the ocassional giant insect creature.

Each action that Harry performs should have waggle. twisting things, turning cranks, pimp slapping Dalia Gillespie, etc...

I am not sure what to make of those "safe" character models. One thing that always grabbed me about the SH series was those freaky character portraits and models...these in the remake look so horribly generic, and the environments look a bit too clean. The "fog" had better be there or I will riot.

These character models look so bland. I want the creepy deranged faces back!
On the surface simplicity...but the darkest pit in me...is Pagan Poetry...Pagan Poetry...

I haven't played that many Silent Hill games, but they never struck me as being battle heavy games. Resident Evil is indeed a battle heavy game, especially with all the weapons available in the game. Silent Hill, on the other hand, is about surviving while keeping your sanity intact. So having this game with no combat makes sense to a certain extend.

You are right, they really aren't battle heavy. The game is mostly about the atmosphere.

I think no fighting (except maybe on bosses?) is an excellent idea. Really a different approach to survival horror games.

So is it supposed to be like the Clock Tower series? IIRC, that survival horror series is based on the concept of avoiding combat (by making your character super weak against almost every enemy).

The thing is, Silent Hill is one of those series that's actually built to do combat well on the Wii.  For once, I actually WANT to use waggle to bash some unholy creature with a lead pipe.  I WANT to use the pointer to aim my gun/flashlight.  But the developers apparently think it's better to run from everything...

Speaking of Mikami, where's he been lately? I know he left capy. I wonder what he thinks of RE5 and the guy behind it, especially his comments on Mikami himself.

I heard he won't even touch RE5.

He joined some other studio, but I forgot which it was.

Mikami co-found a company called Straight Story and is a "contract employee" of Platinum Games.

From what I read, simply because the game won't be combat heavy they will ignore other aspects of gameplay and Wii controls.

I think we should take this with a grain of salt and wait till the final game is released because this seems to be an ambitious game in terms of design and the lack of combat should be seen first before we say it adds or takes away from the gameplay.

Thanks for the clarification, TJ.

@Pap
I don't understand what you mean by no combat leading them to ignoring other gameplay aspects. Could you clarify this?

OK, Broodwars was complaining that the lack of combat  could affect other aspects of gameplay and control (IE, using the Wii remote to open doors, use the flashlight etc.). What I mean that simply because the game won't me combat heavy it doesn't mean that the developers will not innovate with the rest of the game.

From what I read it seems the developers want to put a lot into this version of Silent Hill and could be something special even if it isn't a combat heavy title.

Do you understand now?

I complained about the lack of combat taking away the opportunity to do combat WELL for the first time in the series on Wii because the Wiimote is DESIGNED for games like this.  I think they're missing an opportunity to innovate Silent Hill combat by taking the easy way out and having you run from everything.  Yeah, doing escapist gameplay is not easy in the slightest, but it feels like the developers are running from the challenge of making combat interesting in a Silent Hill game.  Why can't we have both innovative combat AND escapist options?  I'm just feeling really uneasy about this game.  Happy it's coming to be sure, but uneasy...

The ability to control your environment (in this case, enemies) is not anywhere near as scary as if you can't.

And not nearly as interesting.  Sorry, but I'm in favor of games giving players options rather than taking them away because they aren't willing to put the work into making difficult aspects work.

The thing is options to eliminate threats make the game less scary. They could give you the option of hopelessly flailing an object at the enemy and then getting killed...
