*UPDATE*
Quote from: Excerpts from Nintendo Power as reported by GoNintendo
“The characters play different roles, things don’t necessarily happen in the same order, and the story is taken in lots of new directions. You still play as Harry Mason, you’re still looking for your daughter, and you’ll see familiar elements, but they’re all twisted to betray your expectations.”

“One of Shattered Memories’ most significant and intriguing additions—your answers actually affect how the game unfolds. And it doesn’t end there. the game “watches” you constantly, and your behavior throughout can determine when you’ll meet certain characters, which scenes you’ll witness, and a variety of other factors.” “In Silent Hill games, the town always gets inside the protagonist’s head,” say Hulett. “But now, it’s getting inside YOUR head.”

“We’re using the Wii Remote to interact directly with the environment, so the puzzles are all based around that idea,” says Hulett. “You’re not just hitting buttons to choose things.” He also notes that the solution to a puzzle is always in the immediate vicinity, and assures us there’s a lot less backtracking then in previous games.”

“Longtime fans of the series will also be delighted to learn that there’s a way through every locked door; no more checking dozens of entrances only to find that 90% of them are permanently barred shut.”

*UPDATE 4/10*
Some of the major bullet points:
- Wii is the lead platform (for all the haters)
- camera is first person during the office segment. You can look around while the psychiatrist talks
- you must fill out a psychiatric profile
- almost every decision you make impacts the game. For example, if you first choose to look at your map or a girlie calendar on the wall, the game makes note of this decision
- an example of early changes: as you fill out your profile, the game will present you with different situations. When walking through town, you might see an open bar or an open diner. These things change as you make more and more choices
- use phone to dial, take pics, text, check voicemail, browse phonebook, changes options and settings (whose viewer shows a slowed framerate a la iPhone) to take and store pictures, check text messages and voice mail, look through your phone book, and access game options and settings
- take pictures of the environment to reveal new details: take a picture of a swingset with no one around it, look at the pic to see your daughter sitting on the swing
- pictures can cue voicemails and other occurrences
- game world changes from Silent Hill to evil Silent Hill right before your eyes
- intelligent enemies will hunt you down, talk to other enemies to find you, open doors and climb fences
-There are no weapons (guess that seals it in regards to combat)

There is no mention of a platform. This could just as easily be a rerelease on the PSN as a Playstation Original.

Yay for someone! I hope it comes to XBox Live, or Wiiware, cause that's what I got.

I miss read the mention at the top of the articles about the rumored Wii/PSP titles to mean that is was listed on the site as being for those systems. My bad.

NO way would it come to Wiiware because of the size limit. It will most likely be a retail game. Personally I am looking forward to it because, honestly, the first Silent Hill does not hold up too well visually even if it is still a great game.

Hey Silent Hill non-confirmed for Wii on April 1st, thanks to Nintendo Power non-scans.

This game doesn't look like a mess like all the previous ones.
Controls, exploration, combat have a high likelihood of being tolerable enough to prompt the purchase and experience of this old story.

I thought I read somewhere that Konami isn't developing this internally.  That gives me both dread and hope.  With those powers combined, it gives me 'drope.'

If this is a success, do you think this will lead to the NPC Silent Hill Franchise on Wii or maybe a bunch of Silent Hill Wiimakes?

The videogame industry really does follow the movie industry. Remake this, remake that.

It'll surely lead to NPC Silent Hill ports priced at $40 each.  Konami is beginning to learn from the masters of multiplatform treachery.

“This is a reimagining of the first Silent Hill,” explains producer Tomm Hulett. “It’s not a remake or a port. That’s an important distinction. It really feels like a new game.”
It's a remake. Let's not kid ourselves here. I can see this leading to ports of the other games, except Homecoming. It's too easy not to.

Nice to see it is truly confirmed though time will tell if this is an April Fools farce or not.

Someone on the articles comments section equated this to the RE Reamke on Gamecube but perhaps it will be more like the Alone in the Dark remake minus the sucking. Screens look nice, I'm glad they are going to make a lot of IR puzzles.

Is it just me or does this comment sound like they may try to include some Eternal Darkness type Sanity Effects?

Yeah I'd say it sounds more like the RE Remake then a port. It sounds promising though especially since SH1 is one game where I think a remake could add quite a bit to it.

I don't see any such game on the BBFC's ratings database: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/SearchClassifiedWorks/?SearchView&Query=(%20[Title]%20contains%20%22SILENT%20HILL%22)%20and%20((%20[TypeOfMedia]%20contains%20Film)%20OR%20(%20[TypeOfMedia]%20contains%20Video)%20OR%20(%20[TypeOfMedia]%20contains%20DigitalMedia))&SearchMax=50

Leads me to believe this is just another April Fools joke.

Edit; I guess there is a Silent Hill game listed, but where did this "Shattered Memories" subtitle come from? It's not on the BBFC listing or IGN's site.

   SILENT HILL  ( DigitalMedia 09/03/2009 )   Runtime:  100m 9s ( submitted )
Could this be it or does the BBFC not allow the name to change or be any different?

Plus if the game isn't complete yet could it not even be submitted? I have no idea how the BBFC works.

LOL YES, INNOVATE

Combat has been removed from the game.  It's about escape, evasion, and suspense now.

Wii is the home of Survival Horror Rebirth.

If this game is real and not some April Fools Prank, I will be very happy indeed.  I love the Silent Hill franchise, and I've always wanted to play the first but every game from that time period was painted in various shades of ugly, and with Silent Hill going for a particularly ugly look...well, let's just say this would be a very necessary remake.

The whole "no combat" mechanic is what really has me sold.  There's really going to be tension in the game if you have to escape all the enemies.  Also, with the enphasis being on fleeing, I'm sure they'll be more environmental puzzles.  The whole town will have to be redone to allow multiple routes to escape.  Thats prob why its possible to open all doors now.

Honestly, I'm fine with combat in Silent Hill so long as it's MELEE combat, not gun combat.  Gun combat has never worked in a Silent Hill game, and from what I've heard about Homecoming it was just as bad there.

Would that fit though? Wasn't Pyramid head some twisted opposite of the protagonist in the 2nd game? Been awhile.
