Theory: Tetris DS getting re-released?
« on: December 31, 2008, 12:41:45 PM »
It's a long shot, but I think Tetris DS, about the best "modern" version of Tetris ever, is getting re-released!

So, with the launch of Club Nintendo, only select older titles counted for coins.  Mostly, the only titles that counted were titles still shipping - with a few exceptions... One of these exceptions was Tetris DS.

Recently, Nintendo released their free 2008 Catalog, a nice booklet they release for free about every year (well, not the "2008" version...).  In it, there's a page about the "Touch Generations" line of games.  Now, Tetris DS was considered to be a part of this line, but never featured the orange "Touch Generations" logo.

This page shows several TG games - including Tetris DS... except, this time, it has a Touch Generations logo on it!  As far as I remember, it's the only game shown that has never been released at some point with the TG logo.

So why is Nintendo giving us coins for having registered this title and why are they going through the effort to promote it in their newest catalog - with a "new" cover?

Shall we be seeing this ever-popular DS game re-released soon?

Nope, the last publisher that "has" the tetris license was hudson and we got Tetris Party out of that.

No, there are a ton of Tetris licenses around. I bet that Nintendo can and will "re-release" Tetris DS with what Unclebob says.

However, what's the difference between a rerelease and a restock? I bet the only thing Nintendo IS doing with Tetris DS is adding that touch generation thing to the box art.

It will have an orange stripe ontop of it with a general description of what the game is, just look up the box for Cooking Trainer for the basic idea.

I was also surprised to see EBA on the Club Nintendo list. Sort of the flip example of Tetris DS: Elite Beat Agents carries the Touch Generations logo, but has almost never been advertised as part of that series. :(

It's not just a theory, between the first release and now the rating stickers have changed (twice the size) here and I'm seeing Tetris DS with the new kind on the box.

I hope that this game does return to stores because I think I want it but I'm not keen on paying full price for a used copy.

Go play Tetris Party 4 Wiiware. I think it beats out Tetris DS. All the modes in Tetris Party are fun, where most are fun in DS. That metroid tetris sucked ass, and zelda was fun but not always possible, and controls for that two screen touch were less than ideal. That yoshi's cookie game is not that fun too.

I agree with the rest of the messages that they will ship it out with the yellow label and now it won't be as rare to find.

From what I've read Tetris Party seems not to have Push mode, which makes it very inferior to Tetris DS. How could you make multiplayer Tetris and not include far and away the best way to play multiplayer Tetris?

As much as I like both Tetris Party and Tetris DS, Tetris DS is the better game. It sucks that Tetris Party online is somewhat limited.

Tetris DS
+ Portability
+ Better secondary gameplay modes
+ Nintendo nostalgia
+ Solid online mode
+ Awesome soundtrack

Tetris Party
+ Interesting takes/variations of Tetris in the alternate modes
+ Online Tournaments
+ Awesome local multiplayer

Well I remember that Tetris DS was one of the games retroactively added to the Touch Generations brand; are you sure they didn't already reprint it with the logo, and you just didn't see a copy of it at the time?

Co-Op Tetris says hello. And spaces is tons of fun.

You can't do that style of Tetris without two screens. It's a great mode but I enjoy Co-Op and Spaces its really fun and something you have to try.

I love Tetris DS but some modes are terrible like that Metroid version, wtf is that. Where DS has one or two great modes , all the modes in Party are great.

Online is limited in Party, but local is always more fun, the only problem is the requirement of using wiimotes to play. GAMECUBE has a control pad why can't i play with that ??

Tetirs DS and party BOTH SHOULD BE OWNED.

Even though Hudson is the developer, Tetris Online is the publisher and publishers always have an influence on the product. That or Hudson didn't bother with Gamecube controller implementation.

Possible, but unlikely.  I got my second copy pretty late in the short life of this game and it's un-Touched.  Quick eBay search shows no actual pictures of copies with the TG logo.  If it did, it's probably pretty rare.

I bought the game a few months back and it does have the touch generations logo in the botton-left corner of the case. I didn't have any problem finding it either, in fact, I have been seeing it in various stores for awhile now along with other old DS games.

It's not for sale on Amazon, but used copies are going for only $35-40 and new ones for $50-ish on the Amazon Marketplace. That's not as bad as they once were.

maybe this will be DSi download ? That would be a bigger download but Tetris would be the kind of game i want to have in my handheld at all times ready to play so it would fit well.

That would be a killer ap to start the service since so many people can't find them and $8 it would be great deal.

just a thought

I would imagine that the price would be higher than $8 considering it would be a full DS game for D/L

Isn't the full Brain Age game available or going to be available for download for just $5?

Is it? I didn't know. Then I guess they will keep them pretty cheap.

I'm going to expand my idea. Tetris marathon mode from DS is put on DSiWare, and other modes like PUSH, Online battle etc are pieces which you can download individually if you wish. $4 a piece and it would end up costing the same of the entire game. Just a crazy idea.
