P.S. Was Final F. #2 the one with ceciel, the dark knight? The old and new numbers of the series mess me up all the time...

Final Fantasty 2 on the SNES was FF4 in japan.Yes Cicil the dark knight was in FF2 in America.FF3 was FF6 in japan. The reason for this strange numbering system is because Japan was ahead of the US in games for the series. So the US got the most recent game that Japan did.Once FF7 came out Square kept the numbering correct.

Alfred Chicken was on the SNES.

This is gonna be hard for me. Picking only 6 games.

Chrono Trigger: Wasn't afraid to throw away RPG convention and moved the entire genre forward.
Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past: I've never actually owned this on SNES but me and my neighbor worked out a systems where we took turns hiring it out for a week from the video store until we'd both completed it. The freedom it offered just blew us away.
Super Mario Kart: My first game and the best racing game before 3D graphics were invented. 2player GP mode was legendary, me and a mate would play and take turns hanging back taking out the competition while the other went for the win.
Super Metroid: Probably delayed my discovery of masturbation.
Yoshi's Island:The anti-thesis to the horrible Donkey Kong Country. Was cool on it's own without wanting pseudo 3D graphics and endless elvels for the sake of endless levels. Still in the upper echelon of 2D platformers.
ONe of my games wasn't included! Harvest Moon:My sister and I were obsessive about this game.

I am very, very sad that I ran out of votes before I could vote on Contra 3, Lufia 2, Rock n Roll Racing, or StarFox.

And LEMMINGS! Can't forget lemmings! Or Pieces! Or Legend of Mystical Ninja!

There are way too many great games on the SNES to be confined to 6 measly votes. Besides, this list is no where near complete. Your better off giving unlimited votes.

Turtles In Time is my favorite beat 'em up ever. I still play it now. I played it in the arcades. I played it at home. I play it on my snes on my pc on my psp. I play it in the snow and the rain. I play it alone and play it with friends. I play it with friends ad-hoc and play it with friends wifi. I love that game.

Final Fantasy III Was my first traditional JRPG and it's all kinds of cool. I like the setting and the story.

Ogre Battle the game is totally awesome. It's a completely different style of JRPG that gets overlooked. It had a sick sick battle system and rockin awesome branching story. It was also fun. and long. and fun. and not too serious for it's own good. decent art. fantastic game. one of the greatest ever.

Super Mario World. Best platform game ever made. end of story. Near perfection in so many levels. GNARLY!

Stunt Race FX was my bridge into console racing games. It had brilliant art design, awesome looking characters and lots of fun modes. I didn't discover this gem until the very end of the SNES' days. I didn't have an N64 yet and this was the last of my nintendo games. BRILLIANT. man it's fun and goofy and fun.

Zelda. It's good.

Alright I narrowed it down to 6.This isn't in any particular order.

Killer Instinct:I had so much fun playing this.It was challenging but fair.I remember getting the code for the boss to be playable.I loved  playing as B.Orchid, Spinal,T.J. Combo, Riptor and  Fulgore.I loved all of the Danger Moves and Ultras.Every thing that was to be a fighter took something from KI.Except SSB.

Super Mario Kart:I enjoyed this immensely.I had so much fun playing single player. There were times when I would shrink myself for more of a challenge.Try beating 150cc Special Cup shrunk at the begining of the race!I enjoyed playing as Princess Toadstool in Battle mode. I loved the feather.Oh I also played this with my nephew. We had fun.

Super Metroid:I enjoyed everything about this game!

The Legend of Zelda:A Link to the Past:I liked the 2 worlds idea of the game. It wasn't as straight forward as you thought. The Bosses are some of the best in the series.I liked Links Awaking and TP as well. The Music is outstanding!

Super Mario World:Up there with Galaxy and 3 as my favorite Mario games.I loved the Special world.

My last one would be DKC2:Diddy's Kong Quest. I liked all of the various world and bosses that the game had.

The SNES is my all time favorite gaming system. Picking just six is really hard, but this is what I came up with.

6. Donkey Kong Country- I don't understand why this series is hated by 1up. They bash them any chance they get in retronauts. I was wowed by DKC when I first played it. The platforming is solid, the music is great, and the pre-rendered graphics don't look like crap now. The second one is probably better, but I need to play it more to fully agree with that. Yoshi's Island is probably a better game, but I don't have it yet, so I can't really compare the two.

5. Tetris Attack- I can spend hours upon hours playing the heck out of this game. This is probably my favorite puzzle game of all time. Plus, Yoshi is a great character to star in this game.

4. Chrono Trigger- I didn't get to play this game until my first year in college, after all my friends told me I had to play it. I'm glad they did, because it's one of my all time favorite RPGs ever. I can't wait to play it on my DS when I open it for Christmas.

3. Super Metroid- "The last metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace." This is another classic I didn't get to play until a few years ago. Super Metroid had a great atmosphere, great soundtrack, and a fantastic ending sequence. I'll never forget my first battle with Kraid.

2. Super Mario World- While I love All-Stars, this one had to make the list for being an original on the system. I played this game so much growing up, and I look forward to playing through it with my wife soon.

1. Earthbound- This is my favorite RPG of all time. I bought it after wanting to know more about this Ness character that was in the N64 Smash Brothers. I'm so glad I did (especially while it was still on the cheap side). Pokemon was my first taste of an RPG, and it helped prepare me for Earthbound. It might not be the prettiest snes game, but it has a quirky charm that I love. Too bad I'll probably never get a chance to play it's sequel on a Nintendo system.

Honorable Mentions: Super Mario Kart, Zelda, TMNT4, Sparkster, Kirby's Dream Course, and U.N. Squadron.

As someone who also bashes Donkey Kong Country whenever the opportunity arises, I'll have a few words to say (calmly) about it.

Basically, like Golden Sun, it's fancy graphics and sound disguised what really was a very shallow platformer. The 16 bit era saw more 2D side scrollers than any other point in gaming history and while Donkey Kong was above average, it was still very by the numbers, very mundane. The tag team element was the only interesting part and, at least in the first one, it was hardly ever utilised. It's not a bad game by any means but it's nowhere near as good as people make it out to be.
Maybe if Yoshi's Island never happend I'd look on it differently, but as it stands Yoshi's Island did happen and that game is absolutely incredible. As someone who played them both at the same time, Yoshi just made Donkey Kong seem boring and lifeless.

I can respect that. I mean, Yoshi's Island looks incredible, I just haven't played it enough to fully judge the two. As it stands, Yoshi's Island is the next game I plan to pick up for my SNES.

I just played through DKC this year and had a lot of fun with it. I never got bored going through the levels, and enjoyed the platforming. Part of it also is my nostalgia for it. I played through most of it when it came out as a rental and loved it. I don't think it's all rose tinted glasses for me, but both the nostalgia and my last experience with it factor in for my placement of it.

I've got A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Super Mario RPG, Yoshi's Island and I would have put Saturday Night Slam Masters on if I had the choice.  Still I could list must-own SNES games 'til the cows come home.  It's the best console of all time.

Some weird choices for the poll.  Firepower 2000?  What the hell?  When has this ever been considered a classic SNES game?  The whole Donkey Kong Country series is tied together?  Why?  The first two games are absolute classics but the third is not so much (still good just not one of the all-time greats).  I think that distinction is important.  And if you're going to lump series together than do the same with Mega Man X.  And Mega Man X2 is a better game than Mega Man 7.

Final Fight on the SNES is crap.  Thankfully no one has voted for it yet.  Final Fight is a classic game but NOT on the SNES.  On the SNES it was missing a playable character and a whole level and most important of all was only one player.  It's a complete joke of a port though thankfully the sequels are quite good.  If you want a great home version of Final Fight from that time period get the Sega CD version.

Battletoads is not good.  We all thought it was at the time because the graphics for the NES game were out of this world.  But these games are really bad and don't hold up at all.  Battlemaniacs is your standard Battletoads game.  Start off with a beat-em-up level and it's tons of fun and then the descent level which is okay and then speeder bikes and Rare decides to give you the finger.  And IF you're playing single player and IF you're gaming Jesus and you somehow beat it you get rewarded with other gimmicky levels with supremely high difficulties that are impossible to beat two players.  In Battlemaniacs the flaws stand out all the more because unlike the NES game the graphics don't stand out compared to other SNES titles.  Now there is a purpose to having super hard games for experts.  But that should make Battletoads niche, not the all-time classic game series it often is considered.  Though I will say that Battletoads/Double Dragon is quite good.  It shows that the basic core design of Battletoads is fun when the difficulty is fair and realistic.  That game should be in the poll instead.  The Battletoads arcade game is also really good but was never ported.

Super R-Type is another questionable inclusion.  R-Type II is a good game.  Go play it on the R-Types collection for the PS1.  The problem with Super R-Type is that it removes the checkpoints.  Die on the boss?  Tough luck, go back to the very beginning on the level.  Oh and you only have one hit.  Now everything else is quite good as it's a home port of R-Type II which is a good game.  But the removal of the checkpoints just makes the game too frustrating.  I got it used for like 3 bucks and at that price it was totally worth it.  But it's too flawed to be considered one of the top SNES games.  R-Type III however is.

Harvest Moon should be on the list for sure.  It's one of those SNES games that has obtained legendary status.

I had some trouble with this since it asks what games I enjoyed most instead of what my favorites were.  That phrasing meant that certain games that I played multiplayer a lot were in the running.  Ultimately, only one of those made my top six (and it would have anyway).

Chrono Trigger - needs no explanation.  I once had the goal of playing New Game + until every character had maxed out stats, but I didn't quite make it.

Zelda: A Link to the Past - likewise needs no explanation.

Mega Man X - I know some people look down on this series as Xtreme-style pandering, but I loved it.  Maybe I was just in the demographic being pandered to, but since I like traditional Mega Man, too, I doubt that's it.  X gave the series a shot in the arm that wouldn't have worked in the main series, including a story that I cared about instead of merely being a frame story for the action.

SimCity - I never did well at this game without cheating, and even then I never reached the final stage of Megalopolis with its Mario statue reward.  I did manage to reach Metropolis in just seven game years, though.  This game was just addictive and relaxing in spite of my terribleness.  I remember wasting countless time and money writing stuff with trees in the parkland while waiting for the city to develop.  There was maybe a one in ten chance of a bit of parkland having a tree on it, too.  Of course, the real reward for building a bustling city was being able to burn it to the ground with disasters.

Super Mario Kart - I have never been as good at any game as I was at Super Mario Kart.  My best friend and I mastered the game, especially battle mode.  I judge every Mario Kart game since against it, especially battle mode.  Most of them don't fare very well.

Yoshi's Island - needs no explanation, either.  One of the only flawless games in existence.

Tetris Attack

Gee, I am sorta RPG/Adventure heavy ain't I? And look at that publisher breakdown: two Square games and four Nintendo games. You can imagine how hard the N64 schism was for me.

You should be flogged.  Go back and play Mortal Kombat II again.  It's awesome.  The rest of the series is very meh but MKII was a great game and still is.  At home this is one of the most played SNES games.

I voted but I just want to get this off my chest before I go into detail of what I voted for:

These polls are getting kind of annoying. No offense to you Snipper64, its just that seeing them pretty often feels like we're being bombarded with this. The N64 one was cool because it reminded me of all the favorites I haven't played for years, this one is ok too for similar reasons (though with the Virtual Console, playing some of these titles is made easier) but then you have the Top 5 Wii Games of 2008*.. really? I dunno it just feels like pushing it to me.

EDIT: *Just realized this thread wasn't started by Snipper64, so my bad, but still too many polls can be annoying.

Now that thats out of the way, heres my list:

Earthbound = Best game ever. Period.

Contra III    = tried and true Contra, and although not as hard as Hard Corpse on the Genisis (that my cousin and I always tried to beat but couldn't), Alien Wars remains to be one of my favorite Contra titles only because its one of the few games my older brother is willing to play with me and still gets excited about. Its a sentimental thing

Zelda: ALttP = (reconsiders Earthbound as "the best game ever"...) Best game ever. Period Zelda games and Earthbound are exist on their own seperate levels of awesome, hence both can share the title in their appropriate universe

Mega Man X= UltimatePartyBear pretty much said it best. I wasn't drawn into the whole "XTREME!" attitude since, at the time I had no sort of media outlet trying to shove that sort of thing down my throat; at the time I was a kid who grew up on Mega Man and just saw a brand new Mega Man title on the shelf at T'R'U. What drew me in was the updated gameplay; the speed, the powers and abilities, it was all an awesome step up and a welcome breathe of fresh air after 6 classic Mega Man titles that added very little with each sequel. Even when MM7 came out (after X), I just knew that the gameplay of X was a step-up from what the classic series had built upon.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors = More awesome co-op fun with friends. Its one of those games that plays infinately better with a partner.

Choices not on the list:
Harvest Moon: Owned my life for awhile, before HM64 came along, and Animal Crossing later on)

MMX2: Deserves its own mention soley for the fight against Zero at the end. The best part is to get that, I'd have to hold back frown pwning every single in the enemy in the game just to experience that one awesome fight.

Maximum Carnage: I dunno why I loved this beat'em up Spidey game so much, but i did. Don't think I ever beat it though...

Lost Vikings 2: another co-op wonder that had plenty of time put into it with a friend.
