Second Annual Secret Santa: Thread Of Joy
« on: December 01, 2008, 07:50:48 PM »
Thats right folks, its that time again. You might remember last years secret santa gift exchange, well its back now and I want input from anyone interested in joining in.

Last years went off almost without a hitch, I believe some region issues came up and maybe a couple of gifts were recieved late, but nothing discouraging enough to keep us from doing this again. Now, obviously this is the sign-up thread so all those interested in participating please do so, but before you do please be sure to read the rules! Also, I will gladly take any and all feedback into consideration. If you participated last year, tell me what worked and what didn't so that this year can go even smoother. I'm all ears!

Now for the rules!

1. Please only post in this thread if you're signing up, or at the very least include some form of saying you're in or out in bold to make participants easy to track.

2. If you sign-up to give a gift, you MUST GIVE A GIFT. My biggest fear last year was a lot of outsiders joining the forums to sign up for this thread just to recieve gifts, but never gift others. Please don't do this to your fellow forum goers.

3. In your sign-up post, please include the following:

     - Your Wii Friend Code
     - Your Wii's Region (ie US/Canada/Euro/Aus)
     - A small wish list of games you'd like, from any system

We'll keep it in this simple format, borrowed from last year. Speaking of last year, you can use the link supplied above to find your friend code if you're too lazy to turn on your wii, or you can check out The Real Friend Code List although there are of course some new members not included on that list.

I think thats all for this post, all the main rules are there so start signing up. I'll announce a cut off date for sign-ups in another post (its still early, the month just started!) so you have plenty of time to spread the word among the forums; i know not every one might come across this thread (like Iansane). Remember, if you got suggestions, i wanna hear 'em!

As mentioned last year: This is not to be derailed into a religious discussion. This is a gift exchange only so if you feel like giving a gift, please do so. There is no barrier of faith or personal beliefs being imposed here so there is no need to discuss it. Such topics are against forum rules any how so ha!

Almost forgot to mention, unlike last year I will personally be hosting this event since I have easier access to the forums now with my nifty new phone. Feel free to PM me about anything if you wish not to discuss it in the thread.

PS. Sorry for the mishap before, I'll explain shortly

Thanks EC for going along with my (delirious?)letter to my (November?)Secret Santa thread in the funhouse.

I know my real Secret Santa will never let something like that happen in real life.
It was all like a really bad dream. Secret Santa would never let the 25th come and go and not deliver his present.

I'm signing up.  I'll post all the requested info later.

In addition to your wish-list, you should post what games you currently have as well as any games you definitely don't want.  It might also be a good idea to say how open you are to receiving stuff that's not on your wish list.

What's the suggested dollar value?  My vote's for $15.

From what I hear, if you try to send someone something they already have, you will get an error message telling you to try again.
So no need to list off what you have. Only worry about what you want, and what you really don't want.

What he said. Last year got complicated when posters already had tons of VC games. A full year later imagine what some of these list will look like, especially including WiiWare titles. If anything, please post games you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT.

If I get sent something I don't want and decline does the person who sent it get a refund or do the points just get added to my account?

Yes, they are refunded.

That and if they don't download the game within a certain number of days of you gifting them, you'll get your points refunded as well.

Wii Friend Code in signature I am signing up.

Sorry, I did not see this thread earlier...and the link when I asked about it in Are you my Secret Santa did not come here but to some stupid thread...so I thought one had not started.

Anyway,

Genres I enjoy:  Action/Adventure, Platformers, Puzzle, Shoot'em Ups

Games I would like:

SNES:  Super Street Fighter 2, Super Mario RPG
SMS: Sonic the Hedgehog 2
NES: Mega Man 3
Wii Ware: None
Genesis: I dunno something good.
N64: Mario Golf, Zelda OoT

The above are just some suggestions I also like being surprised with gifts.

Oh, and I am in United States Region.

Spak, it wasnt this thread was it? :(

Whats the Wiipoint limit?

Your fellow forum goers (mainly vudu i think) have been suggesting 15wp maximum, but i think if everyone includes a game or two from every system on the VC in their wishlist, it'll be fair to those who might not be able to afford some of the pricier games.

I'm still taking suggestions as to when we should set off  the cut off date and set the gifting date. It looks like last year gifting went on from the 21-25th. It wasnt a catastrophe but i'm sure plenty of you guys would like to get it done sooner so we can actually enjoy our gifts before having to do all the family stuff that comes around closer to the crazy Xmas thru New Year End of Holidays rush.

I think the price list should start at 500 points and there should be no maximum.  People should expect to get at least a 500 point NES game, but if someone wants to go overboard, let them.

I see no reason at all to limit a maximum and say, hey you can't give more...because other secret santa's can't afford it...just don't EXPECT to get anything but a 500 point nes game.  Though, I could see upping the lower limit to 800 wii points for at least a genesis/SNES game.

My only request is no WiiWare games.

Thats kinda what i said in my post right before yours... whats with you spack you're ignoring everything i post lately, even this thread! (lol)

If everyone just list a game or two for every system available on the Virtual Console that they like, then there is no need for a maximum since if Person A can't afford a $10 N64 game, he can at least get Person B that awesome $5 NES game that was also on his wishlist.

Obviously if someone wants to go overboard, why stop them, but no one should expect anyone to go crazy.
