I think the greatest fallacy in NOA's current corporate logic is that they equate people wanting more 'core' games to people wanting new versions of Mario and Zelda.
Mario and Zelda weren't the only things that would have made people happy at E3. ANY traditional first party Nintendo game would have, be it a new Pilotwings, Kid Icarus, Pikmin, or, god forbid, a brand new franchise.
Also, putting Wii fit in a bucket that is supposed to make those fans happy is ridiculous. I think that game is significantly flawed for many many reasons. Mario Kart however should make those people happy though. It's always been a great traditional Nintendo game.
