FireFox and its Awesome Add-Ons
« on: October 07, 2008, 08:34:56 AM »
I made this thread to make all of you forum users aware of a specific add-on that greatly improves your forum browsing experience.

I know everyone already knows about the great must haves such as:
Ad Block Plus & its Filterset G Updater to block ALL ads and pop-ups
Answers to instantly find answers to the things you don't know
& No Script to block unwated code from assaulting your computer

But what I want to introduce to this forum that I'm sure most of you may not have discovered yet is Auto Pager,
which allows you to endlessly scroll down a thread till you hit the very end. No more 20, 50 or 100  post per page,
cause now it doesn't matter. No more clicking to get to the next page and then waiting for it to load, because the page ends where the lost post is.

Install it then try it out on The Joke Thread

AE = Always Enable
AD = Always Disable

IE7Pro and Developers Toolbar does what I need for Internet Explorer.

I prefer IE7 over FireFox 2. IE has a faster startup, its looser in its interpretations (I have to specify overflow: auto in order for a DIV container to remain bounded around its contents? Lame), but I do like how specific the error messages are. I really hate IE's generic error message.

I like Firefox, but it always seems like I have problems with ActiveX scripts.  Random stuff not working even when I have all blocking turned off.  Like on my laptop, I had Firefox installed when all of a sudden the video on ESPN.com stopped working.  It had been working perfectly in IE prior to installing Firefox, but FF killed it.

I've never had a Firefox install that I haven't removed for one reason or another.  I always wind up going back to IE because it just works with every website out there.

Oh, you mean ActiveX, the IE feature? Yeah, that's a damn shame. :P

If you can't live without IE, then install IE Tab. It lets you run IE inside FireFox.

That's pretty funny...but it's not quite the same idea. IE sucks, but some pages don't display 100% correctly in FireFox, so you open the page in an IE Tab.

I'm not dissing FireFox, but any issues with ActiveX is a pain because it's everywhere.

I'll look into IETab.

I tried this on linux. It is fast as hell on startup. Do you know if there is a way to change the theme?  Netscape Navigator is not the most attractive browser ever.

durrr it's a bare-bones browser interface.  I just shrink the icons, remove unnecessary buttons, remove button text, and I achieve MAXIMUM REAL ESTATE free from foreclosure

After using Chrome for a little over a month, I began to miss AdBlock, but I really liked the browser's interface.  This stuff let me get pretty close in Firefox:

Compact Menu consolidates the menu bar into a single button drop-down menu.  No more stupid menu bar!

Download Statusbar lists downloads on a horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen.

Fission puts a progress bar in the address bar like Safari, and displays link locations in the address bar when moused over.  No more stupid status bar!

Speed Dial gives you big, clickable thumbnails of frequently visited sites.

Tab Mix Plus has ensured that I will never use another browser (primarily, at least) ever again. Its ability to show multiple bars of tabs, along with Faviconize Tab's ability to shrink tabs down to just the page's icon allows me to currently have 33 pages open in tabs, bringing me that much closer to my ultimate dream of having every page on the internet available to me by just clicking on it's tab in my browser window.

For anyone with a Mac and can't right click, Drag to Tab is a life-saver.  Command-clicking blows.

Unfortunately, however, it's hard to go back to Firefox after using the ridiculously fast and ultra compatible Webkit browser.  I do miss some of the extensions, although thankfully the most important (Adblock) does have a safari version.  The only catch, however, is NO DRAG TO TAB.  Alas, life always has a way of making me angry.

As far as other favorite addons, the only other ones not mentioned here that I love are "How'd I Get Here" and "Scrollbar Anywhere."  The reason i dont link these is because there are no FF3 versions of these out.  So basically, I have more fury.  Those were awesome.

Also, sort of off topic, but the multiclutch app is a MUST HAVE for MBP and MBA owners.  It lets you set multitouch gestures to key commands.  I can now go back, forward, switch tabs, open tabs, close tabs, and go to my home screen all on the track pad :)

I even get mad when i see others use IE. Now I'm trying to switched to Linux on Grey's orders(and cus my comptuer is infected), but its not as seemless as switching from ie to firefox.
