Pap64, I think you should give up on this "fanbase" you keep referring to ("fanbase" is in quotes because, well, if they're fans why are they so negative?). They seem like the type who just like to complain about everything and aren't ever going to change or be satisfied with anything. Perhaps you should just ignore them if they annoy you? Or do they not annoy you and you are just making observations?
A little bit of both. I admit they do annoy me, but they don't annoy me enough that my whole gaming experience is ruined. I mainly like to make observations and point out how a fanbase reacts to something.
I mean think about it...
During the GC years if this Punch-Out was released people would have jumped all over it, claim that Nintendo was the best and give it a high score.
But since this Punch-Out is coming out on the very evil Wii now the fanbase is cynical, since it employs some new things exclusive to this generation of gaming (like motion controls).
What I find funny is that some people complain that this game is basically the classic NES game with better graphics. Yet many games are essentially updated takes on classic gameplay conventions.
Street Fighter IV is an example of this. Yes, it has brand new graphics and engine tweaks, but it plays like a classic Street Fighter game. All of the characters save for a few are from previous games and it plays very closely to the old arcade games (though I am sure some of the more hardcore fans will tell major differences between the two).
So, isn't Street Fighter IV the same game but with shinier packaging? Technically yes, but it shines because the gameplay still works and the presentation is great.
I suspect the same thing will happen to Punch-Out. Even if it plays exactly like the NES titles the gameplay will still prove worthy and the new take on the series will make it something outstanding.
Not every game needs to innovate or break new ground just to be good.
