The Wii Remote (and Nunchuk) are actually very sensitive. Most developers have to de-sensitize them in software to avoid picking up "gestures" except when the player makes large, intentional movements. The exceptions, and good examples of just how sensitive the controllers can be, are tilt-controlled games like Mercury, Monkey Ball, Kororinpa, parts of Wario, etc.
Also, since IGN says you play with the Remote face-down, it may also accept button presses (from the vibration) as a back-up input. The buttons are very easy to depress when facing down like that.
