What is the best combination?

I've been thinking of getting a new system. I've been leaning towards the PS3 (cuz I have a bunch of PS2 games), but like always, I'd like to know what you guys think first.

I can firmly say that what I play the most is 360, and the Wii. My PS3 is at the moment a bluray player.
If you have the money to splurge, get both systems.
I would suggest you hang out with some of your friends that have either system, and then maybe you might get a clearer answer for yourself as to which system you might want to buy.

My vote is for 360.

My brothers both have a PS3, and I must say, I love playing it.

What concerns me the most is online. I don't want to pay for it, but is Live soooo much better than PS3's online system?

Honestly there's not much of a difference. It all depends on the developer's (I'm looking at you Konami and your MGS4) efforts towards their online structure. The 360 has a uniform online structure, but it doesn't necessarily make it better i.e. Team Fortress 2 *sigh*.

If you don't want to pay for online, and you like using the system, and your brothers also have a PS3 which is good so you can also play with/against them... I don't think you will feel bad about the purchase.

In the end it all boils down to which developers you like...

If you like Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and Konami, then PS3...If you like Bungie (though I guess they aren't MS-exclusive anymore) and a bunch of nice JRPGs (Namco, tri-Ace, etc...), then get a 360...

Online gaming is a bit of a non-issue for me... ='D

I have both PS3 and 360, and really enjoy them both.  I got the PS3 because I'm a technology whore, and I bought the PS3 to specifically play games with my buddies (Halo 3, Gears of War, NHL, Madden, etc.).  If all of my buddies had PS3s, I wouldn't own a 360.  At this point the PS3's online component does about 98% of what Xbox Live does, perhaps not as slickly, but functionality-wise they're nearly identical (especially with PS3 games coming out nowadays, which all have trophies, properly-integrated online features, etc.).

I bought all of the consoles and the pie chart of my gaming hours (besides pc) breaks down like this:

Xbox 360: 75%
Wii: 24%
PS3: 1%

Also, Live seems to me to have a much better feature set, like the completely integrated join/invite system, achievements (woot), friends list high scores, etc. They're redoing the interface for more speed and functionality sometime this fall (woot) and they're adding these Mii things (barf).

If I were to buy another console, I'd choose a 360.  I'm not interested in Live, but it's the volume of games I'm interested in, along with the Arcade games, that are the reason I'd buy it.  However, as it stands, I don't spend enough time playing my Wii games, in the sense of console ownership, so I've yet to need another console bad enough to pay $200 or more for it.  Maybe when it gets around $150 or gets a smaller redesign, I'll reconsider.

My roommate badly wants to me to go ahead and get a 360, and I don't care.  For some reason he wants one sooner for Final Fantasy XIII than when the game comes out, and he doesn't have enough money to get one.  He hasn't influenced my decisions, because I really don't care about FF XIII, and since I'm the one buying, I'm waiting untill I want to buy it.

I'd get a PS3 over a 360.  The 360 is just so damn unreliable I can't even fathom purchasing one.  If they ever get around to upgrading to the new chipset (and if it makes any significant difference) I might change my tune.

80% of the games for those two systems are available on both, so you should look at the few exclusives they have and decide based on that.

I'm leaning toward the PS3 almost entirely because of Valkyria Chronicles, but I'm trying to force myself to clear some of my backlog before then.  Also, what vudu said.

I'll be more inclined to buy one when they fix the problem instead of the warranty.

I agree with this.

But Live is what makes me want to say 360. But GT HD makes me want PS3 :P

I'm not going to sit here and say that a PS3 is a better choice than a 360, as I don't own a 360 so I can't really compare.

What I can say is that I've been 100% happy with my PS3 purchase, but part of that is the backwards compatibility I get when playing PS2 games I've missed, which isn't a benefit of the system anymore so, yeah.

I voted 360. I prefer the controller. I don't like the PS's because I can never get a comfortable grip. But I did suffer through it enough to finish Call of Duty 4 and Uncharted, so it isn't that bad :\.

The Xbox Live market is so much better than the PSN. Downloads from the PSN take forever, Live has more choices, and everything just feels that much more polished.

If you have a bunch of PS2 games, then buy a 360, because the PS3 doesn't play them anymore.

I'm buying a 360 next week and I chose it over the PS3 because the few 360 eclusives I want (Mass Effect) are more important to me than the few PS3 exclusives I want (LittleBigPlanet) and the 360 controller doesn't suck anywhere near as much as the PS3 one does. Also I plan to go as insane with Live Arcade as I do with the VC and WiiWare.

I know Live Arcade is a great service, but I'm amazed to see how many people think it's so much better than PSN.  I still play Everyday Shooter, Eden, and Monsters a TON.  I absolutely love all three of those games, and I'm looking forward to things like Flower coming later.

Mass Effect is much better on the PC. You get improved controls, added features, and a lot of fixed bugs. ;)
