Or........................................PREORDER

Pre-ordering is for suckers who want to pay higher prices at Gamestop/EB.  I checked with EB and they haven't even filled their pre-orders yet so a hell lot of good that would have done.

Honestly though, aside from getting a console itself at launch, I've never HAD to pre-order before.  I can always just waltz in and get the game.  Or at least I could before I moved to "we only have three stores that carry videogames" Abbotsford.

Why do people still preorder from brick and mortar gamestop, they intentionally choke supplies to the bare minimum. Just preorder from online stores like amazon or hell gamestop.com, you don't need to put down a deposit and you don't have to waste gas finding out that the store didn't fill your preorder or going to 10 different stores trying to hunt down a copy.

From my experience if I was forced to preorder at a brick and mortar store I'd go to a bigger store like toys r us or bestbuy where they usually get a lot of copies of stuff instead of just like 1 - 10 copies.

Shipping costs can be quite high and places like Amazon charge sales tax on top of that. Not to mention the delay in shipping.

In the US amazon doesn't charge shipping if you do their free shipping thing on order above 25.00 (or free 2 day shipping if you have prime) and the majority of states in the US amazon does not charge tax.

So am I correct in assuming that in order to download songs in this game you have to first put them on your Wii memory and then copy them to SD?

Hah, so THIS is why Nintendo's "solution" was announced....  So FREAKING STUPID.  Apparently if you are into GH DLC, you have to always have 200 blocks free on your internal memory.

I scored the full band kit yesterday and immediately busted out the drums to see if there were any problems, and I appear to have avoided any issues there.  Unfortunately, the freaking guitar doesn't work.  All of the controls on the neck stopped working partway into the first song, and they haven't worked since.

I think that if there isn't enough blocks free, the game checks if theres a SD card and then downloads it there. From what I read part of the GHWT save on the Wii system memory is cache for loading up songs more seamlessly.

I tried to download a song with an SD card full of space, and it said that there wasn't enough space on the Wii System Memory.

It's a great solution, really. It merely needs to be implemented throughout so that Virtual Console and WiiWare games can also been loaded off of an SD card and into the Wii's cache. Keeping the Wii's memory free of clutter would be no problem if this solution could be used for everything. It'd be even less of a problem if Nintendo would implement SDHC.

This is as much fun as I've had with a game in quite some time.
You need to move some stuff off of your wii to make a certain amount of space. Then you can download stuff. Even with an empty card.

Isn't that a Neversoft made song? It has vocals.

Two questions about the song creator.

1.  Can you put your custom track on an SD card, upload it to the Internet and have someone else download it and play it on their system?  It would be a great way to trade copyrighted music.

2.  Are custom songs cross-compatible across systems (i.e. can you play a song on Wii that was created on 360)?

Any confirmation on the best version gameplay wise (I don't care about the visuals or the ease of downloadable content)?

I believe the answer is yes to all questions. You can upload your songs, and I'm pretty sure you can download them no matter which system you use, since you're not actually downloading the music (just the note layouts), it just plays it from your system's memory.

Actually, they weren't.  ;)

If you have no interest in the visuals or DLC, I'd say the Wii version is the way to go.  It has the unique feedback in the guitars (rumble, sound) and the exclusive Mii Freestyle Mode.  The only reason you'd want to pick up a different version would be if you had certain friends you wanted to play with online who had another version or if you really care about hooking up a midi player to your drums (which isn't supported in the Wii version AFAIK).

Also, thanks for the info Brandogg!

There are no lyrics in the tracks (audio or text), but there is a "keyboard track" which can be played by the singer. Many user-created tracks have one. It's fun to sing the Zelda theme.

I'm pretty sure Electro Rock is a real song, not made with the song creator at all.

Yeah, my bad, Electro Rock wasn't made in the song creator. The "guitar" sounds like it was, and it's part of the Neversoft track pack (which includes other songs made in the song creator), so I assumed it was from teh song creator as well. Sorry about that, but it doesn't change the fact that it's awesome.

Hooray! (not for lack of vocals in the song creator, which i understand, but hooray for no double standards)
