It looks just like the orange line for the bass drum, only it'll be easier to hit accurately because you'll never have to hit another button (not including the strum bar) at the same time. It better work with hammer-ons and pull-offs, too, though they don't appear in songs nearly as much as they do with a guitar.

There's an RHCP song in this game isnt there? At least we know that'll have some hammer-on/pull-offs ;)

Nice vid, but that doesn't really tell us much.  I'm curious as to how the drums will work since there's one less pad.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

The 5th drum on the World Tour set is mapped to one of two pads on the Rock Band set, I can't remember which two, depending on the song in addition to its normal beats.

What the Hell are you talking about? There's only four buttons on the note chart in that video, because he's using the Rock Band drums. If you use the GH4 drums, there's 5 buttons on the note chart. The right symbol on GH4 is the "orange button" from the guitar controllers, and doesn't get used if you use the GH4 drums on RockBand 2.

I was really going to get this game instead of Rock Band 2 but with the recent news on RB2 im going to have to wait for the reviews to see if one is really better than the other.

i think it boils down to this:

Do you prefer a constant stream of DLC (which, from what i've heard, is the only really solid Pro RB has over GH)?

or

Do you prefer a creative outlet in making your OWN songs and sharing them via the GH community?

I don't know, since I have Rock Band, I tend to keep track of GH DLC, and I always see a constant stream coming out.  If I could make any generalization about either one, I'd say that GH DLC tends towards more mainstream while RB DLC tends towards more underground.  Of course, that's a massive blanket statement, as each game has a mix of both.  But it seems like Harmonix prides itself on its "music nerdiness", and the RB track list reflects that to a certain degree.

I'm curious to see what Harmonix does in response to the GH music editor.  I'm sure they'll go out of their way to one-up it in every way possible, and maybe even gear it more towards "serious" musicians.

i base my statement on RB DLC only on fanboy comments i read everywhere, to be honest. Even GH fanboys, from what i've read, admit that GHIII DLC isn't as constant as RB, but i dont know that for sure.

All i know is my money is already going towards GH and i cant wait to create some custom tunes.

Besides Death Magnetic, GH3's DLC as a whole has been absolute crap. You get a 3 song pack every now and then, and usually it's a mix up of 3 crappy songs.

Guitar Hero gets my money because they made a better first impression with this Wii owner.  But Rock Band 2 will likely get a disc-only purchase once I can confirm instrument compatibility.  It's only a GH vs. RB in regards to the hardware because that's pricey.  But aside from that they're just two games on the same console so why would I pick one over the other?  I had both Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II on the SNES so I can have Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 on the Wii.

i think i read somewhere today that GH:WT instruments won't work on RB2...

i'll try to find it, but this is bad news. I dont know about you guys but i wouldnt want RB as a guitar only game (since it IS compatible with GH3's guitar).

I'm not sure how Death Magnetic doesn't fit into the "absolute crap" category. Maybe they should try to get Master of Puppets instead?

Doesn't Rock Band use a standard USB mic?  So I guess the Wii version would be guitar and vocals only if you buy World Tour.

I almost wish they didn't announce the compatibility with GHIII because now I'm second guessing my decision.  It was easier when I just assumed nothing worked together and picked World Tour because I already had GHIII.  But now what if Rock Band 2 is better?  I COULD have got that instead, right?

Makes you wish Nintendo would step in and insist on compatibility to remove any problems but they probably consider these games competition for Wii Music.  Not that this issue is Nintendo's fault but as the console maker they have the sort of pull needed to make this happen.  I doubt the Xbox 360 compatibility happened by fluke with no feedback from MS.

Because it's the greatest fucking thing ever, that's how. If you want Master of Puppets, wait for GH: Metallica (early next year), they even play the title track during the trailer.

So, this game comes out this coming Sunday (Oct. 26th) and I've yet to feel the hype.. I don't know if its just me or not though.

Is it weird that the (first wave of) Rock Band commercials got me more excited for GH:WT than the GH commercials?? The only tv ads for GH have been more for Gamestop if anything, since they're pushing the pre-order thing. That ad sucks and doesnt excite me about the game, it just makes me dislike Gamestop's ads even more.

Is anyone actually excited that the release is right around the corner?

I'd be way more excited if we got some sort of exhaustive list (time for a pre-release feature, NWR-peeps, hint-hint?)  on what instruments work with what game (RB1, RB2, GHWT). I currently own RB1 for Wii (yes, I supported the jerks out of pure desperation... AND because I found it for $125 on Amazon :D ).

I've got a reservation down on GHWT, but I'd cancel it if I could just use my RB instruments.

I am, but all this instrument compatibility stuff has messed with it a lot.  I'm hoping some reviews pour in before Sunday so I don't go in cold.  Though I'm also out of town from Wednesday to Friday so I'm pre-occupied with other things.

Hey, if the hype isn't there then I don't have to worry I didn't pre-order. ;)

Plus since this is a Nintendo forum there is more talk about Wii Music.  It's turned into a Wii Music vs. Guitar Hero kind of thing so I don't feel the hype as much on these boards.
