Thoughts?  Would anyone prefer headsets?

I like the hardware, i'm just not crazy over it.  I have heard it has pretty great audio quality so, that's good.  It'll also save money on multiple headsets.  Hopefully this will be somehow used in older titles like Brawl, Kart and BWii.

Games like Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 need this kind of thing on wii.

I'd rather not have a headset.

But think of this:  By the time the next E3 rolls around, it'll be easier to literally chat with everyone as we witness all the megatons, rickrolls, and flops the industry tries to serve us, if it even survives that long.

I have a feeling this will be a teleconference multi-array mic which is already present on the Playstation Eye and that mic is pretty damn good. I'm sure you wont have to shout but only talk at a normal level. But I think its a good way to prevent clutter or having a long wired USB headset.

This is the best speaking solution ever.  It gets rid of my biggest complaints with headset on the xbox.  It won't be uncomfortable, I can talk without my friend buying multiple headsets, and I won't look like a tool.

Hopefully Nintendo has thought of you and your cheesy poofs.

Looking at other forums I am surpirsed how many "hardcore" gamers simply hate everything Nintendo does now.  They are complaining about this for seemingly no reason than it is different from what they had before and Nintendo makes it.  Apparently a deadly combination.

Up on the D-Pad seems like an excellent place to put the mute button. Not something you'd want used as a button during gameplay but not too hard to reach quickly.

I like Wii hear it was one of the things I liked about the press conference. As Pro said it has lots of practical applications like letting people know about a Natural Disaster, Planning a meet up in real life, Me reading Videogame News to you guys, or talking about a upcoming game.

It should have a software update to add it to the in game home button menu. Also it automatically mutes that when you enter the home button menu, as well as allow you to receive calls when you are on your wii. 360 style

Ahahahhaha that's because Wii Speak eliminates the headset which traditionally provides them the illusion of being high-tech dork commando FPS'er.

Now with Wii Speak I'll get to sit back in luxury like Tony Stark or Capt. Piccard and yell, "COMPUTER!  WHERE IS MY HOT COCOA!?"  Then everyone tells me "shutup, noob!"

That is a minor thing I don't like about about playing online. I would like something like those 4 bars in MP3 to check the batteries.

If Nintendo adds a channel that allows you to chat with Wii Friends (Not adding new Wii Friend Codes) then this will be a great addition.  It would mean we could go into a channel see our friends and select people to talk to and create a room.

Now, if Nintendo can do this, and then allow that Channel to remain open while playing games...WiiWare, VC, or even Wii games then we have a THE SOLUTION, to voice chat being absent from every game up until now.  Heck, you could even voice chat in non internet games then...how cool would that be?

Now, the question is...how possible is it that Nintendo would

1)Make a WiiTalk channel  (I would say probably 100%)
2)How possible is it to play other games through that WiiTalk Channel.  (I would say much, lower.  Like maybe 50%)  It would at least need a completely new firmware update to allow that to happen.

No more than it being either directly above or directly below the TV which will most likely be putting out quite a bit of sound, and if that were a problem Nintendo probably would have noticed it by now.

I think a channel like that will happen, but I am almost certain that the only thing that can run in the background is WiiConnect 24 and chatting while playing games that weren't designed for it wouldn't be possible.

I'd prefer a headset, to be honest. Considering I sit a good ten feet away from my TV when I play, I'm not confident of something sitting on top of my TV being able to accurately pick up my voice. Plus, I hate hearing people's voices on the TV, and much prefer it coming right in my ear.

I dunno...

Teleconference style mics usually have a nice range to pick up voices I bet at 10 feet you should be fine.

Headsets are uncomfortable and are far from an elegant solution when several people are playing on the same console (ala Brawl, Mario Kart, and Mario Strikers). Besides, I'd be willing to bet that some third party will come out with a headset for this.

I am not a technical person, so I don't know...but why wouldn't it be possible to create a firmware update that would allow more than one channel to be open at the same time.  Ok, sure it would take resources so I don't think it would be possible to run old games without a performance hit.

But IS it possible for Nintendo to release a firmware update AND a new channel that while chatting can access and open new channels to play VC, WiiWare, and Wii games?

If that is possible, then you could use the channel to create a party of your friends talking and then all play a game together.

Or play a VC or WiiWare title while chatting with your friends online.
