Wall-E, just as good as "Ratatouille" if not better
« on: July 03, 2008, 02:23:07 AM »
Ya I know. It's a "children's" movie; but so was Toy Story, Ratatouille, and Finding Nemo, and those movies are classics.

I recently saw this the other day; a day after watching the severely disappointing "Wanted." It was great. It was wonderful. It was incredible.

I swear those bastards at Pixar made this movie just to challenge themselves. Pixar has always been great with their animation. The way they portray body language is absolutely phenomenal. So I'm guessing, one day during brainstorming they come up with the idea of having a character that can't talk, thus having to solely rely on body language to communicate. Then to top it off, they make the main character a robot.

Genius.

Go out and watch it with your girlfriend or with your little brother/sister. It's a damn good movie, but if you don't trust me, just look it up at rottentomatoes.

Well, I hope it's better than Ratatouille, I didn't particularly enjoy that one.

With that and Cars I was fearing Pixar was beginning to lose their touch, but Wall-E was a damn good movie.  Blew away my expectations.

Ah, well that's good, I wasn't too fond of Cars either, so this is good news. I'll have to check it out soon.

Let me shamelessly pimp my site again as I already ranted about this movie a bit....

http://palehour.com/index.php?PBPost=194

The verdict is still out for me on where this ranks among Pixar flicks....  But I think I still like Monsters, Incredibles and Ratatouille better...

I haven't seen Wall-E (I'm one of those crazy people who just doesn't see a lot of movies until they show up on cable for free), but I'm familiar enough with the plot to be confused by all the cheap plastic crap that Disney is selling based on the movie...

Of course.

But then, I can't recall the last time I purchased a movie from the bin...

(as per your subtle point, I have no problem with cheap plastic crap - but I do have a problem with a company hocking cheap plastic crap from a movie that's supposed to teach the children not to want cheap plastic crap...)

Children's movie, my ass.  Pixar films are just as much for adults as they are for kids.

Every Pixar film with the exception of Cars have been absolutely wonderful.  Monster's Inc is probably my fave of the bunch, but that's like saying I love my right testicle more than my left one.

I look forward to getting Wall-E from Netflix in November.

:'( at the Cars hate. I loved that movie but IMO Wall-E blew me away and is by far my favorite Pixar movie (which is saying a TON since I love ALL their movies). It was unique, beautifully directed, simplistic yet complex at the same time, and did so much with relatively minor dialogue. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me angry (not at the movie but things that happened in the movie), and made me think. If it doesn't get a movie of the year nomination I will be extremely upset.

Wall-E was HEAD AND SHOULDERS better than Ratatouille or Cars. Of course, even Pixar's worst movie is head and shoulders above most everything else, but Wall-E is a return to form for them, a real visual and thematic virtuoso! (please don't beat me up for using that word GP!)

Of course, I must say that it's not my "FAVORITE" movie from Pixar. It didn't cause me to completely let go of myself like Nemo or Incredibles. But everyone has their own tastes and favorites, etc. I WILL say that I got the feeling walking out that this was the most artistic and visually-complex/designed/blocked film that Pixar has done to date.

Oh, and the animated short movie before it was hilarious.

Haha. I think we're really splitting hairs here when trying to decide which Pixar movie is the worst because the truth is that Pixar's worst movie still has tons more heart and polish and quality and watchability than most other stuff out there.

For instance, I agree with you that Cars was on the low end of their movies. But I also rate your favorite, Monsters Inc., down there as well. It's almost like all their movies are, statistically speaking, pretty much awesome.

Normally, I would agree with you.  But I could honestly go my entire life without watching Cars again.  The story just didn't interest me, the animation wasn't as exciting as in their other films (likely because the main characters aren't ... "organic"), and I didn't like Owen Wilson or his character at all.  That stupid tow truck also annoyed me.

The problem with Cars was that I'd already watched that movie. Doc Hollywood with Micheal J. Fox.

Looking at Pixar's films, I could go my entire life without watching any of them again with the exception of The Incredibles which was awesome and badly needs a sequel.

That's not to say that I didn't enjoy most of them on the first go around, but I don't really think they are great for rewatching.

The short before WALL-E has got to be the greatest thing I've ever seen. It reminded me of Tiny Toon Adventures violence, without the pop-culture references.

I've been excited about this movie since I saw the first trailer.  Where they said that the idea for this movie came in a meeting after Toy Story.  Its a very good story.  I like the minimal dialog but, I'm sucker for robots.  The many layers in this movie can make it enjoyable for a wide range of people.  Plus its the first Pixar movie with live action....

I really enjoyed how they worked in the live action. It added a fascinating layer to the movie.
