The only advantage GHWT has is the Death Magnetic album DLC. The gameplay is similar - but RockBand's timing window is much more natural, and they don't add as many extra notes that shouldn't be there that GHWT does. I *do* like the "let ring" parts that GHWT has though.

You guys are pretty forgiving.  OK, so Rock Band 2 on Wii finally has the features that Rock Band 1 should have had.  For me, that doesn't make up for the insult that was the Wii port of Rock Band 1.  If anything, it makes it seem even more insulting because it proves that their claims about how those features weren't possible on the Wii were complete bullshit and that it was just a cheap, lazy cash-in that stil managed to come out a year late for some reason.  I'm a little reluctant to jump back on the Harmonix love train after that disgusting display.

P.S. Other advantage of GHWT: good guitar controllers.

The only advantage GHWT has is the Death Magnetic album DLC.

That sounds like a pretty big disadvantage to me. Having the fucking Hendrix tracks would have been much better.

have RB2 guitar controllers improved from the first?

Last I played rock band, the guitar controllers look cool, but are sh*tty.

No. They *do* have a built-in camera and microphone to auto-calibrate however, but other than that it's the same clicky-buttoned and non-responsive strum bar that it's always had.

A friend of mine who had used the one from the first game liked the one I got with Rock Band 2 a lot better. He still liked the GH ones a lot more, though.

I got the 360 RB2 Wireless Guitar for Christmas, but I haven't gotten around to playing RB2 with it yet.  I can tell you from holding it that the buttons feel a LOT better than the RB1 Guitar, though.  They're softer and a lot less "clacky".

It's all in your head. The only real difference is the color. They constantly change some of the internal pieces of all the GH/RB controllers, but the RB2 guitar is essentially the same exact thing as the RB1 wireless guitars. Also sans the slider and the shape of the headstock/body, the GHWT guitar is the exact same thing as the GH3 guitar.

The internal pieces of the RB2 guitar are no doubt the same, but the feel of the buttons is definitely different.

Hey guys, I got this for Christmas (for Wii), and the improvements over the first/gimped version are HUGE. Yes, it's what we should have had in the first place, and what 360/PS3 owners have had since the first one, but I'm just glad to have it at all. Also, it was really funny seeing my mom (an accomplished singer and our main RB vocalist) sing a song by the Beastie Boys. XD

So, when can I get my friend code thread made over in that other forum? I don't doubt I'll be the only Wii owner in there for a long time (at least until the Wii full band game comes out), but it'll make me feel better.

Till there's a FC thread, I'm putting it here:
4839 7510 2026

Also, anyone hear when the Wii Music Store is going to open up? I'm still getting the "No Music Store Data Found" error when I try to access it.

Nope, I bought my RB back in June, when I found it cheap on Amazon, so just needed the game in order to rock out.

I DID pick up a GHWT full-band kit, thinking I'd just sell RB1, but... couldn't end up justifying the extra $100 or so cost for something I pretty much already owned. I returned it to the store earlier this month. Now, if they'd announced that the instruments would've been compatible, I might've changed my mind, but they kept dragging their feet on it.

It's not worth getting the package - I actually prefer the RB2 drums to GHWT now, but the GH guitars, any of them, are better than the Rock Band guitars. Just get the game and the drums when they're available...then go buy a $20 GH3-clone guitar from Wal-Mart and a cheap USB microphone.

Oddly enough it's cheaper to buy Rock Band 1 special edition (99.99) and Rock Band 2(disc only) (49.99) than to buy the Rock Band 2 Special Edition (189.99) on Wii.

The only 4 major cons are the Drums are wired (but it's white!), and the drum pedal doesn't have the metal plate on it(easy mod) and no drum silencers (easy mod) and no optional cymbal ports. But then again you will have 2 Rock Band games (yes I know the first one is gimped on Wii).

eh i don't thin i can switch from the GH:WT drums to the RB ones. Those cymbal pads give the playing an authenticity that would make playing drums without them feel awkward. Maybe if i wasn't already familiar with what a real drum set feels like, I'd be able to, but I know i just can't.

If the guitar works fine, thats all i need to hear to buy RB 2 (disc-only) later down the line, for cheap.

I don't know man but I don't think the GH:WT drum kit is authentic and the "moon pie" cymbals are as loud or louder than the Rock Band drum kit. Rock Band 2 drum kit allows optional cymbals but some reviewers said that they are not very necessary and doesn't add anything to the experience. I'd give more credit to guitar hero if Neversoft knew how to properly do note chart but it's too bad for Activision that the original creator of Guitar Hero moved on to Rock Band which has a superior:

I'm sorry I don't see how not having a cymbal acting as a high-hat or crash isn't authentic when compared to having to hit what would essentially be a snare or tom for the same note.

I'm not gonna argue about note charts or which dev is better cuz I don't care that much about either series, just stating my preference of the drums and GH:WT is where its at for me because its a more realistic representation of being behind a drumkit. In fact i'm surprised they're going as far as having a second kick pedal for Guitar Hero: Metallica just to play double-bass. To bad i won't be buying that game, not a big enough fan.

I agree with EasyCure about the drums.  Real life drums better resemble the GH kit than the RB kit.  The RB kit looks like a toy with its four pads.  If that sort of thing matters to you, if having the drum kit feel more like a real drum kit is important to you, then the GH drums are superior.  I consider the quality of the game and the hardware to be different topics and I like the GH instruments better.

But since both games support the same hardware this really shouldn't be an "either or" situation.  BUY BOTH.  The only decision you have to make is regarding the hardware which is also the only cost concern.  Decide on what combo of hardware to get and buy both games.  Buying two games is no big deal because we're gamers and, well, we all own more than one game.  We aren't little kids here whose parents will only buy them one.

You didn't see this "us vs. them" with Metroid and Castlevania on the GBA.  Or Fire Emblem vs. Final Fantasy Tactics.  If they're on the same console, and you like the genre, you buy BOTH and you're happy to have that option.  Tekken vs. Virtua Fighter was a big "issue" when they were on different consoles.  Now they're on the same one so you buy both and which one you personally like better is not as big of a deal.

I have GH: World Tour and love it and I'm going to get Rock Band 2 at some point to play on my GH instruments.  You can point out the superiority of Rock Band all you want.  Since I'll have it I won't care and I'll play either game based on my current mood.

I think I'm actually going to get the RB2 drums + cymbal add-on tomorrow. I know the cymbals just "extend" the 2 buttons you choose to add them too, but they seem a lot better than the GHWT cymbals, and the drums are way quieter than the GHWT drums...also RB2 has drum freestyle, which makes the best use of the touch-sensitivity of the drums...and I have a gift card.

Got this game on Wii today.  So far, it's... okay.  Just more of the same.  I've only played guitar so far, but the GHWT controller compatibility seems to work fine (the touch pad thing doesn't do anything, but that's no big loss).  There are quite a lot of repeated songs from GHWT.

Oh, and the game consistently locks up if I ever look at bandanas in the store.

Honestly, if you already have GHWT I'd say don't bother with this unless you can find it cheap.

I've said before I'll get this (for cheap) because of the GH:WT instrument compatibility but after playing the first rock band on his 360 the other day, i'll wait to get this for DIRT cheap. I honestly like GH3/WT better than RB1. The only good feature was the ability to save your team members, but that was about all i liked from it.
