GODDAMN IT

I'm skipping out on this round of music games because Activision and MTV couldn't get their heads out of their asses.  Now I might have run out of excuses.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Sweet, i might have to go pick up the games (used) now, depending on their setlist. Too bad the wii is getting all of RB's DLC late, and too bad this will probably be the last good version of these types of games (seeing as how devs are raping the genre)

In retrospect having to wait forever to find the bundle has paid off.  The stores in my area have been getting them in steady since Black Friday (I know because they always run out of Wii version by the time I get off work but constantly restock the other versions) and now I know I can later buy Rock Band 2 as well.

I'm surprised this isn't on the front page of NWR.  It seems like significant news.

Not so fast!
Does this mean GH instruments may not be compatible??

If it turns out they only made ign's review copy compatible, that will really suck. They did state in the original article that they didnt have the RB2 instruments so maybe this is the case. Bummer.

If they can make the review copy compatible then they can make the REAL copy compatible and if they don't then f*ck 'em!

Seriously though I call for a class action lawsuit if that's the case.  They've clearly shown they CAN make the games compatible and if they intentionally refuse to for the Wii retail version when ALL the other versions have no such issue they're taking advantage of the customer.

Just got the AC/DC pack as a Christmas present.  I'm loving it, even though I wish that the tracks weren't live (I would have loved to have Bon Scott's version of T.N.T. on there).  You absolutely don't need the disc at all, though.  There's a code on the back of the manual, you put that in on Xbox Live and you download the songs.

Well guys harmonix set everything straight.

As it turns out, Harmonix has quite a bit to say about Rock Band 2 on Wii.

Regarding the impending and very late release of Rock Band 2 for Wii, Harmonix has issued a detailed statement in response to our story from earlier today. We're printing the statement in full below, because it includes several details about the Wii version of the game that the company has yet to talk about in much detail. For example:

    * Downloadable content will "work seamlessly with an SD card,"
    * "Ongoing online support" with "new battles posted consistently,"
    * "Robust character creation,"
    * "Fully functional online world tour," and
    * Full compatibility with other Wii instruments.

Also in the statement is Harmonix's pledge to release the Wii versions of games simultaneously with other platforms.

    Hi Everyone:

We just announced on Friday that we'll officially be shipping out the Wii version of Rock Band 2 on December 18th. This is just 2 months after our September 14th launch on Xbox 360, and we're really pleased with the game we were able to put together.

As most of you know, we're avid readers of our forums, and we place a lot of stock into what our fans think. We've seen that many users in the Wii community have been unhappy with the period of time between Rock Band's release on other platforms and on Wii. We want to apologize for the delay in getting RB2 onto the Wii and to reaffirm that we believe that Wii is an amazing and unique fit for Rock Band 2, and one that we care deeply about getting right.

The extra time we've spent on RB2 Wii has resulted in the definitive full band experience on that platform. In addition to a fully functional online world tour, updatable battle of the bands, robust character creation, and a DLC catalog that will be growing exponentially after launch, we've maintained the highest standard in 4-player collaborative game play, allowing you to rock to over 100 amazing songs just by purchasing Rock Band 2. Also, we can confirm that this game is compatible with other existing instrument controllers available for Wii for both guitar and drums. Even if you've picked up another full band game, you can grab Rock Band 2 in its standalone software format, buying individual instruments and the disc itself to customize your band. We believe we’ve created an extraordinary game with the help of Nintendo, and we think that you'll all be very pleased when you get your hands on it.

This game could not have been completed without the tireless efforts of our partners at Pi Studios in Houston, who literally worked through a hurricane to bring this game in before the holidays. It was a sight to behold, and anyone waiting for Rock Band 2 for Wii (or PS2 for that matter) owes them a big thanks. Their efforts, combined with our internal Rock Band team and Nintendo, are what made the game the best Wii game available in full band gameplay this holiday. Going forward, it is our ambition to release future games on Wii simultaneously with releases on the other platforms.

We're going to continue to watch these forums to see how you're enjoying the game and how we can best support you moving forward. With the launch of our DLC catalog (which will work seamlessly with an SD card) and ongoing online support (with new battles posted consistently), Rock Band 2 brings the living breathing world of rock to Wii in full effect. We know you will enjoy it.

    Yours,
    Harmonix

I'll wait for a review to see how well GH:WT instruments work before picking up the (disc only) game. Or maybe i'll wait till i can find it for cheap too, either way works better than investing in the full band kit (again)

My girlfriend gave me Rockband 2 Special Edition today as an early Christmas present.  Now I need a 2nd guitar!  I know GHWT guitars work, but do any Guitar Hero guitars work?  Any 3rd party guitars?  It's a shame they're so expensive, but I need a bass!

BTW, the game is great.  I'm glad she got me this and not Guitar Hero.  We've been having a blast.

What console did you get it for.  360 every GH guitar works not sure about the 3rd party controllers, if Wii every GH guitar works not sure about the 3rd party  controllers, if PS3 depends if they ever released the patch.

I got it for Wii.  I didn't realize this was the "general gaming" board.  I did a little research, and found that GH3 and GHWT guitars work for Rockband 2 Wii.

And so do the drums but that's a moot point since you got the whole set. I don't know if the slider on the world tour guitar works in rock band. If you play with the guitar hero guitars the only thing you'll be missing is the special effects switch.

The track list in World Tour is extremely uneven and doesn't tend to compare to what Legends of Rock had. I can't say that a good chunk of what Rock Band has is very interesting either however. Presentation wise, Rock Band seems kind of sparse and almost sterile in many regards. I can probably read the song titles before playing them in Rock Band though...

I'll probably get GHWT in the long run, but I have to say I'm pretty happy with RB2. The biggest different for me is that the character designs, particularly the singer and drummer, and particularly their faces, are absolutely terrible in the Guitar Hero series. By comparison, the facial animation and lip sync, as well as the overall choreography of the characters,  ia much more pleasant in Rock Band.

Beyond that I'd say it's largely up to song preference. Rock Band gives you access to so many tracks through DLC that the handful of songs I like on the GHWT disc haven't tempted me yet, but I might add it to my collection someday if I find a good price.
