Yeah, once you learn the drum pattern you're off and running.  Still, it's just difficult enough to make you feel like you've accomplished something.

but I have no idea why they would block a band called "The Jimmy James Experience".

Is that a Newsradio reference? :)

Maybe the problem is that it has "s Ex" in the title.  The code they use to check the name might strip out the white spaces and then search for naughty words.  Otherwise they're afraid someone might beat the name check by calling their band "fu ck" or something like that.

We call a friend of ours Jimmy James, the nickname is a reference to the fantastic TV show you mentioned.

That's the most logical explanation I can think of, though I wouldn't think they'd block the word "sex", and even if they were going to I would think the filter would be sophisticated enough to realize that I wasn't doing that.

They announced the long-awaited "20 Free DLC."

http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/922/922241p1.html

It comes out Nov 4th, and it'll be available for download on Wii when that version launches.

I'm mildly disappointed that I don't know any of those bands, I was hoping for some David Bowie or at least something along the lines of Limozeen, but whatever.

Yeah, the free DLC is pretty lame, but hey, it's free.  I have a feeling that at least some of those bands are friends of Harmonix.  Either that or they're really underground.

The only band I recognize on that list is Kutless, which is a Christian rock band.  I don't see any of the Harmonix regulars from the first two Guitar Heroes.

The instruments from GH4 will work on RB2...probably the other way around, too.
Link? And does it work the other way around (ie RB1 instruments work in GHWT) I want some hawt table action noting compatibility across all "band" games, STAT! Yes, NWR Staff folk, I am talking to you.
The RockBand 1 drums work in GHWT, I can confirm this, because I have it for 360. Still though, I'll probably trade up for the GH drums because they will be so much better GHWT.
Why is this Rock Band 2 thread in general gaming when there's a Wii version?  I keep forgetting to keep up with this thread but it's almost as important for Guitar Hero: World Tour info as the GH thread (and vice versa).

The AC/DC Track pack came out yesterday at Wal-Mart.  Go out and buy it.  :)

Actually, I don't know why they just didn't offer it as DLC to be honest.  I opened the game, flipped the instruction manual over, entered in the 20 digit code, and began downloading a 700 meg file.  It then occurred to me that I forgot to put the disc in the tray and as I went to do so, the download % indicator started going up, which just proved that I didn't need the disc to being with.  For kicks, I put the disc in and fired it up.  Basically, it's Rock Band 1's interface, no character creator, and 18 songs to choose from.  Why would anyone bother playing this by itself?  Doesn't matter though...

I now have the greatness that is AC/DC playable in RB2 and beyond!  Woot!

I'm going against every instinct and putting this on the Christmas list instead of going out and buying it today.  I'm trying to subsidize my entire Rock Band 2 experience this Christmas...I have the Drum Rocker kit, Alesis brain, AC/DC track pack, and wireless guitar on my list.

That's actually pretty funny. You could go halves with a buddy and both get all of the content, though one would have to only play it as a stand-alone game. Still though, you could sell it to someone without Xbox Live.

Edit - also I just realize I totally f'ed up that post from the 21st...but you get the idea.

You read my mind.  :)  I'll just have too be extra careful to note that the game can only be played locally and such.

Ok, having decided to limit myself to one "full band game" this season, and having decided that my band game of choice would be RB2, AND already being the owner of Rock Band: "Special" Edition on Wii...

What do you think our chances are that Harmonix will find some way in the next month to make not only RB1 DLC compatible w/ RB2 (which we know will happen, yay!), but actual RB1 on-disc content as well? 360/PS3 people have a way to do this for a piddly $5 – just copy it to the HDs, of course! But theoretically, they could still do it on Wii via SD card if they wanted to, right?

... Right?!

:'(

For the record, my guess on probability is miniscule-to-none. :(

Decoy, on Wii harmonix will release the full DLC catalog on a week to week basis until they catchup fully to what is current while releasing the songs scheduled for the current week.  The Wii version will also have the 20 free songs that is offered to the 360 and PS3 users I recommend you to pick up a SD card since the 20 free songs weighed in at 570 MB on the 360 version.  The only caveat the Wii DLC store will have is all songs will be available as singles only because Nintendo doesn't allow the same content twice (but that strikes me odd since FFCC pulled it off) I don't get why you can't buy a bundle where it simply marks off all the songs in that bundle and you just download each song separately.

Edit: Rock band 1 and Rock band 2 DLC are the same exact thing, you won't be able to import the Rock Band 1 disc songs to Rock Band 2 because Nintendo does not allow patches.

But Flames, how about this instead...

Depending on disc-space, why couldn't they just put all the RB1 songs on the RB2 disc as well, then let you unlock it somehow if you can prove you have RB1? No patch, it'd just be like Layton or any other game which has extra content locked away until you buy access to it.

Heck, I wouldn't care if I had to send in my RB1 & RB2 discs, then they mail me a disc back with both sets of tunes on it. It'd be positive PR, like, "Thanks for supporting us from the beginning, loyal customer! We appreciate you, and are happy to go out of our way to make YOU happy."

Yeah, yeah, I know... (looks down, kicks pebble) :(

Probably because it might be a logistics nightmare, I did the export thing on 360 it was 1.23 GB so good luck putting that much on your SD card. But the main issue is that Nintendo doesn't allow patches so you wouldn't be possible to stream the data from the disc to the SD card.  And plus the way Rock Band 1 was made on Wii it probably doesn't even know how to detect patches.

Even though I exported I still am keeping my Rock Band 1 disc.

Sure it's essentially a roster update, but I don't think it's optional, which in my view, makes it a patch.

So, Amazon's got this game releasing on December 22nd for Wii.

Can anyone figure out why it's taken so long? Bugs w/ the online parts? Maybe they couldn't figure out how to make DLC work? Just hate the Wii userbase?

Well lets see they probably want time to implement DLC since they will also be putting back catalog games to catch up to the 360/PS3 versions so every week it will be what the 360 and PS3 are coming out in terms of songs + back catalog until they catch up, SD card streaming, manufacturing the instruments(MTV/Harmonix/EA doesn't have a dedicated company to make instruments unlike Activision does with Red Octane), and they are probably working with Nintendo to get the 20 free songs up and running on Nintendo Wifi Connection.
