So apparently the Wii version of RB2 is just as good (aside from a couple tiny details) as the 360/PS3 versions, and will have available all of the DLC from RB1 and RB2 as well. It won't have the direct-from-SD loading yet, but there will probably be a patch very soon. You can also preview tracks  and save directly to the SD card, you just need to copy to the Wii's internal memory first, at least until a patch is released.

Even with this news, it still feels like it falls short...

I'm not trying to flame either, i'm not a hardcore fan of either games (RB or GH), but right now activision won my money with their wii version. I wouldn't be opposed to buying RB (game only) if/when they make instruments compatible for eachother though (again, wii version)

It may fall short of GHWT, but it doesn't fall short of the greatness that is Rock Band 2 on XBox 360.

Agreed. I'll give the game a try once Harmonix takes their heads out of their ass and utilizes the superior design of an integrated Wiimote. Nintendo should really be forcing the issue too, as currently it hurts the consumers more than anything.

Of course, those ridiculously priced Guitar Hero controllers also hurt the consumer. Why ever they're the same price as the 360/PS3 controllers is beyond me, consider most of the functionality piggybacks off of the Wiimote.

The instruments from GH4 will work on RB2...probably the other way around, too.

Easy Activision wants to give the pricing of the Wii version and the Wii guitar "equal treatment" that the PS3 and 360 versions get. And they also know that people will buy them since Wii is the party console and Wii owners eat up music games.

I can assure you that the large majority of people I know have not purchased an additional guitar controller. $60 is just a tad ridiculous for any peripheral.

Looks like we're getting dogged on the DLC savings (money) on Rock Band and probably guitar hero as well.

The reason Harmonix isn’t producing song packs for “Rock Band 2″ on Wii is because of how Nintendo handles content on their store. Nintendo doesn’t allow multiple versions of the same content, so everything will be sold as singles — including full albums. Essentially, Wii owners will miss out on bundled song savings. This could change if Nintendo’s policy does.

it makes sense that the same would apply for GHWT.  sh*t.

Nintendo is kind of being a douchebag about this, though at the very least they should let you use your EA Nation (and friend codes, simultaneously) account for online play. Lowering the price across the board wouldn't be fair to 360 and PS3 players, they just need to find a way to link the songs together without repacking them (I imagine Nintendo is trying to save storage space on their servers) as another file.

Well I can understand the reason why Nintendo doesn't allow the song packs and singles. A lot of my friends downloaded the same song twice on rock band 1 by accident before harmonix patched in the ingame song store. Also I don't think Nintendo wants to waste server space on redundant content, I think if harmonix could of made a  work around like this: If you buy a bundle pack it would queue each song that belongs in the pack and then it takes enough Wii points to cover the price of the bundle. Or if that doesnt work buy a bundle then mark each song that belongs in the bundle as purchased.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if GHWT goes the other way, offering the songs as packs but not as singles.

i've heard that the wiiware FF game with DLC offers packs and singles in their content. ie Buy 1 race/species each, or buy a bundle....

doesn't that disprove what they're talking about here? or is it a seperate issue all together..

That is true, if you buy the race pack on the DLC it puts a notation that you downloaded those races. If you buy 1 race the option to buy the race pack is grayed out. Like I said they should of made a system where the bundle queues up all the respective content or marks each content under the bundle as purchased.

Much like how the "technical limitations" holding the first Rock Band back on the Wii were all disproved? :P

It makes sense about the singles only ordeal because once you think about  nintendo's policy to wiiware.  as they have a 40 megabyte size limit and considering each song on average is about 30 megs of space, they can't do track packs because it would be well beyond 40 megs.  I could be wrong, but I'm thinking that this rule applies to traditional DLC as well.

damn you, nintendo! *waves fist*

Why is this Rock Band 2 thread in general gaming when there's a Wii version?  I keep forgetting to keep up with this thread but it's almost as important for Guitar Hero: World Tour info as the GH thread (and vice versa).

Any DLC related setback due to Nintendo's incompetance is unacceptable.  We need a REAL storage solution.  Does Nintendo even take into account third party developers at ALL when developing videogames systems?  The most routine stuff comes up and they're caught with their dick out every time.  Even if YOU don't plan on having much DLC the stupidest peon can GUESS that someone who makes games for your console will.  But, hey, piss off your userbase and make the competition look better because you've got ignorant non-gamers to carry your ass.

Link? And does it work the other way around (ie RB1 instruments work in GHWT) I want some hawt table action noting compatibility across all "band" games, STAT! Yes, NWR Staff folk, I am talking to you.

I got this yesterday for the 360 and I'm loving it. I didn't realize how hard drums would be. The "Unlock All songs" code isn't working for me for some reason. And Harmonix is officially as bad as Nintendo, they won't show my band name on Xbox Live because it's not "classy" and I have no idea why.

They wouldn't show my band quote on Xbox Live, presumably because it has the word "nut" in it.

Try drums on Easy to start out with.  You'll find they're really enjoyable, and actually more gratifying than guitar/bass.  Check out "Go Your Own Way" on drums, it's awesome.

I have no real intention of playing on Live, and even if I did I wouldn't care if people saw the band name because it's an inside joke that only friends of mine would get, but I have no idea why they would block a band called "The Jimmy James Experience". I have been playing drums on Easy and having a lot of fun with them. I remembered that you said that about "Go Your Own Way", but like I said the code isn't working for me so I have to wait until I unlock it in Tour Mode before I can play it.

insanolord, if it's like the code for RB1 (Wii), you have to enter it really quickly for it to work, like all buttons in under 3 seconds. Took a few tries for me to get the coordination down.

RYBRRBBRYB, I think that was the code for Wii, and you had to enter it on the start screen (oh, and it was no strumming, just hitting the buttons... but you probably understood that already :P ).
