SMW > SMB3 because the levels are more fun (and longer), secrets are more meaningful and instead of a crapload of items that you almost never use they only have a small amount of permanent powerups but those are more evolved and well integrated into the level design.

As for the flickering, the NES didn't have enough vid memory to do the tile swaps for scrolling offscreen so you'd see a row of tiles scroll in from the right before it gets replaced with the proper tiles (the alternative would have been tileswaps as the tiles leave the screen so you get the flicker on the left).

Super Mario Bros 3 is obviously a big release though since it's been widely available in some form pretty much since it first came out it seems routine for it to be available.  It's still probably one of the top five VC releases period though.  Big week.

As I said, Alien Soldier is not considered import in Europe and the game is completely in English here.

Mario Bros 3 is perhaps the most balanced, varied, and well designed Mario's ever. In balance I am talking about difficulty, SMW was for the most part super easy while SMB3 had was much more balanced even if you cheated and used the warp whistles. Also it had GIANT WORLD, SMW didn't have that!

Super Mario Bros 3 is a 10/10. Anyone who disagrees is flat out factually wrong. It's math people! You can't argue with math!

SMB3 also has Kuribo's shoe, the Hammer Suit, and more levels (they may be shorter than those in World, but I felt that a lot of World levels go on too long). World doesn't have much variety in its stages compared to 3, and just doesn't have the magic of 3. World is a great game, but a huge disappointment when you think of it as the follow-up to SMB3.

SMB3 is not a 10/10, it's a 42/10. Not only is it the greatest game ever but it is literally the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

It's all personal tastes. I found SMW to be a better experience than SMB3. Not to say SM3 is bad but that's how I felt when I played the game.

You can't crucify someone for thinking like that.

Oh and SMW didn't have that annoying ass pipe world . . .

Y'all are wrong.

Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World is the best Mario game.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

I like Super Mario World better.  SMB, SMB3 and SMW are all the same general concept and each game adds more and polishes the concept.  The jump between SMB and SMB3 is obviously much bigger than the jump from SMB3 to SMW but SMW is the most polished.  All three games are absolute must-plays of course and I don't really care if anyone likes SMB3 more than SMW because they're both A+ titles.  Sometimes I get this vibe from the SMB3 boosters that SMW sucks or is a big disappointment.  That's nuts.  We're comparing two of the greatest games ever made.

Super Mario World is so good that I think you really can't go anywhere else with 2D Mario.  It's good that Yoshi's Island and Super Mario 64 were so different because I don't see how they could have taken the formula further as is.  I like New Super Mario Bros but it feels generic which makes it kinda dull.  I think that's because SMW just perfected 2D Mario.  Every videogame series is eventually going to reach a point where it can't be improved on, only changed, and SMW was it.

This is so weird because ALL these games rock people! You're splitting...

The chances of you beating SMB2 JPN in a week are slim-to-none.  I can't get past the third world.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

My friend had never played it before the VC release. Now he can beat it and only die 4 times. Of course, the name The Lost Levels is appropriate, as the game is changed very little from the original, a game which he can beat without dying once.

I'd call this discussion ridiculous, but if we were talking about console Zelda games then I'd be on this like a grizzly bear on a hiker's pants when there's an apple in the pocket.
