I really like the art direction they went with Real world images mixed with Rabbids.
The onrail levels of the first Raving Rabbids were great, but the levels were really uninspired. I felt like there was sorta a story there, but no enough to really feel an urgency to the fight.
With the Rabbids in the real world there is a true story to each of the levels...being told as you fight. The basic idea is to beat back the invasion, but the real story is what the Rabbids are doing in each place while you fight. It works much better than you would original think.
You would think that with real world video you wouldn't be able to interact enough with the environment and that could cause a problem, but the plunger weapon is not going to blow up buildings or cars so it really isn't as big of a deal, as say in earlier gun shooters blasting FMV environments should interact with you.
My biggest concern now is the speed of the levels and the speed of aiming. At least in the IGN videos moving your target around was WAAAY to slow, and the Rabbid interactions and attacks were too slow. These gun shooters are intense because of the speed you must react to achieve shot or to prevent being shot yourself.
Now I understand there is going to be a 4 player mode, so slowing targeting down will balance out that gameplay, but really, why not speed it up some, and on 4 Player mode throw out more enemies and stronger enemies. At the speed it is at in those videos it really isn't playable in my opinion, and I hope that is changed before release.
To end on a brighter note, I am pleased that they cleaned up the HUD with the aiming telling you how many plungers you still have. It makes it much more pleasing to the eye.
