Drawn To Life
« on: September 12, 2007, 11:45:06 PM »
Oh god this game is sooo cool!

It's really criminal that there isn't a thread for this yet because as soon as I started playing it I couldn't stop smiling. If all this game was about was drawing your own hero then that'd already be cool, but this goes beyond! I drew the "world" that was created during the intro, I drew on the title screen (I added a Canadian Flag to the default drawing... so awesome), and I even drew the weapon my hero used, the platforms he jumps on, and some essential town equipment.

Not to mention that the platforming sections where I get to USE my creations are a simple joy, with highly dense level design that encourages you to explore every nook and jump to every ledge for maximum completion, but at the same time seem simple enough for newbies and casuals! Then you go back to town and enjoy it being repopulated with shops and houses as cute reposians slowly return to their home.

Never fear Raposians! The creator god is back, and his hero, Bryyosaur, has come to save the day!

I didn't even realize this was out.  But I have a question.  Let's say one's drawing skill added up to a lumpy stick figure.  How much would this hinder the game?

I've had my eye on this game for a while, IGN gave it a 7.9(Good), so I will be getting this game as soon as I know I have enough money for extra games, college is a financial b!tch.

I don't think lack of drawing skill will hinder this game, although it can make the overall experience better. Nothing more worth it than drawing in a nicely detailed Link and making a Zelda-themed game.

It won't hinder it AT ALL. In fact, this game will make you feel like you're an awesome drawer... I know, because I suck at drawing things. But the game gives you a template so that you can imagine the various parts needed, it gives you some supporting examples if you want to trace over something instead of starting from scratch...

And just to see your character animated (not perfect, but charmingly well... my Bryyosaur has some pretty broad shoulders because of the way it animates) makes you feel so good about yourself.

So does anyone with the game want to sort a screen of their creations?

Augh, I can't change the name of my hero after I've made it. That's annoying, because I redrew my Klaymen into Raptor Jesus, and now he's a Raptor Jesus named Klaymen. Booooo.

I can make two more, though, so maybe I'll make a new Klaymen and name him Raptor Jesus...

LOL, Falcon Exist.  Since Aksys can't get Guilty Gear out the door I picked up this instead!  Here are some pictures, I put the best ones right on the page, the rest are clicky-links to save wimpy connections.

1. I decided to do my favourite oddball platforming hero from Super NES, Plok! A hero is born

2. Plok explores the town and  does a stupid dance.  Plok isn't supposed to have elbows, it turns out that although he fits perfectly in the character creator, he isn't really built for it.

3. Plok starts a level:

4. Plok does the stupid dance on a Plok-esque cloud of my own design.  I like how he loses body parts as he gets hurt - it's kind of similar to the real Plok.

5. Plok saves the day! (LOL spoilerz!)

6. And just to showcase the flexibility of the character creator and the utter lack of artistic ability needed for this game, I drew TROGDOR!

He only took me about two minutes, and he actually animates a lot better than Plok - it's almost eerie!
That's my opinion, not yours.

Trogdor will get even better when you get far enough in the game to draw him wings!.

It's your basic early 90's style platformer. Jumping on enemies, collecting coins, so forth. I'm finding it very enjoyable simply because these sort of games just don't exist anymore. :[ You save goons in each level, who'll then return to a town. When you go back to the town it goes to an overhead view and you can do more crap there. Oh yeah I found the 'GOOD' button on my camera.

It's only really a problem for his left arm, since it looks a tad broken when it flops around. The rest is fine!
