I just realized that, with the advent of the stage editor, stages updates no longer interest me.

I hate to say it, but my friends and I were always big on stationary levels with maybe 1-2 moving hazards but that's all. I think Powerstone 2 didn't go over very well for this exact reason.

I'm betting that most of the Brawl stages which offer obstacles which tend to jump out and attack you will be quickly off the list. I'm hoping stages like Delphino still fare well because they're really just a set of platforms which change on occasion but the rest is purely cosmetic.

I love the set stages though I've always wanted a stage editor in Smash Bros. I reached points in the hundreds of hours I spent playing both the original and Melee where I just got plain bored of the stages and characters. I'm a value whore so I'm always up for more stuff. Even though I'm terribly skeptical of the idea of customizable characters in Smash Bros., I'm totally open to the idea though I doubt they'd put it in if it didn't work.

And, as a value whore, I really would like to see all the older stages remade for Brawl. The more options and additions there are the better. It took years of playing nearly everyday to get tired of the other Smash games, but I did get tired of them. Melee is almost unplayable to me now though admittedly due primarily to Brawl's sheer awesomeness. I almost feel like Sakurai and his team set the bar so high that the expectations for this game are unattainable and that I'll find myself disappointed in something. For instance, the introduction of 3rd party characters has spoiled me. I'll probably always think in the back of my mind how much more awesome the game could have been with character X or Y.

It won't ruin the experience or come close but hype is almost universally a bad thing. I can't remember the last game I was super-hyped about that actually lived up to all my expectations. The original Metroid Prime was close and without thinking too hard about it, MP was probably the closest it ever got.

I wouldn't worry about Brawl's stages, though. Save for a couple of moving stages and hazard crazy stages (Rumble falls, Norfair, Summit, Eldin, Wario Ware and such) they all seem pretty stationary with the backkground providing the action and eye candy. The most I've  seen has been destructible platforms and pillar and those can be avoided.

It is WAY too early to be making an assumption like this.

Brawl isn't even finished yet. The new physics of the game (and they are new) could make the gameplay feel very different in terms of level flow.

Furthermore, the "custom stages" are designed around a partial editor someone made from screenshots.

I'm quite certain there will be custom stages which outdo the native ones in Brawl.

Besides, a lot of these hazards sound neat on paper but, if Melee is any indication, they might just be irritating in practice.

Yeah, you might want to take the bar you've set for this game that you've currently placed in sub-orbit and bring it down some. The expectations for Brawl are a little higher since it's been 6 years since Melee came out, but it doesn't need to be a big, boffo package just because of that. The game's going to be $50 like any other one, so if you keep your expectations at around that level, you'll probably even be pleasantly surprised sometimes.

But it is also the easiest to totally miss.

I wouldn't say strongest.

It be somewhat hard to land and I'm sure that when he slashes the other players its just really a love tap.  Unlike, say Samus, which could clear a field if everyone is at the right percentage.  On the flipside though 1 guarenteed smash is a good thing.

Wow.  Final Smash updates are losing appeal to me.  I just don't really care.

As for Set Stages, they appeal to me the most as well.  But you can still do things to make them interesting.

I don't mind small updates, though it seems kind of lame that it wasn't at least a "double small" update since everyone knew what Meta's final smash was from E for All!

I think the only updates which could make me cry "MEGATOOOOOON" at this point would be:

1. Ouendan/EBA as playable
2. Phoenix Wright/Resident Evil character as playable
3. 8 player support
4. Eternal Darkness character as playable

These would be it, and largely because I absolutely do not expect any of them to happen. To a lesser extent, a character creator, but even that wouldn't wow me as much as the aforementioned.

I can't think of anything else which I'd consider a reason to stay up late to see these updates. I fully expect Megaman to be in the game but I honestly couldn't care less as I've never cared about his games. And if Sora or Cloud was announced as playble, I think I'd cry "NEGATOOOOOON" as I'd consider it a bad thing.

My megatons:

~ Marin as playable or Assist Trophy
~ Midna/Wolf Link playable
~ Isaac (Golden Sun) playable
~ Phoenix Wright playable
~ Lip playable

And I'm sure there are more things that are yet to be revealed that I didn't really think of that will be megaton-worthy...

I agree on the Cloud front.  If Sora however was in Brawl I . . . I . . . I dont know what I would do.  My whole desk is surrounded by wallscrolls and action figures from Kingdom Hearts.  I dont care if I am a blatant  hardcore fan of the series I really love it <3 <3 <3.

Megaman NEEDS to be in brawl and I am sorry guys X doesnt cut it I want teh CLASSIC.

Bill is right I want a Midna/Wolf Link character though I would be happy with a Midna Beast/Pretty humanoid Midna combo that would switch via Zelda/Shiek. . .
