Would be kind of over-kill if she were just an Assist Trophy or minor story character, no? *shrug*

I'd DEFINITELY lean toward playable, then. I highly doubt they'd make this much of a stink over an AT and Krystal just plain makes sense.

Also, supposedly the guy who does Sonic's voice had the info on his website 3 WEEKS before Sonic was announced.

Funny, eh?

Holy crap, Ice Climbers get the awesome stage they deserve! (We could actually see a piece of the sky in the last trailer on the Dojo!)

Glad the Ice Climbers get a non-terrible stage.

Deg just pointed out to me that the fish is in fact from Balloon Fight, and I checked to make sure...

It most definitely is!

Probably means Balloon Fighter won't be a combatant (else they'd save the fish for a Balloon Fight stage)...

Sounds good to me... as he would make a better assist trophy than a playable fighter, IMO.

Since the fish from Balloon Fight is in an Ice Climbers level, a Condor or a Nitpicker( the other bird from the game) from Ice Climbers should be flying in a Balloon Fight level.

I am just trying to think of a way for Balloon Fighter to still be playable, and hopefully he is.

Its official: Balloon Fighter and Ice Climber take place in the same universe! Seriously, this is the second time they have linked both games in the SSB series, the first time being in Melee when you could choose the Balloon Flight theme song in the Ice Climbers stage.

Speaking of stages, one of my friends says that the mountain summit stage was planned for Melee, along with a FE themed stage, but was scrapped but you could see it listed on the debug menu cheat.

This means that Brawl will definitely be host to features that were planned for Melee but cut at the last minute.

This is true.

Two debug levels were AKANEIA (a location from FE1 & 3, causes a crash when you try to open it), and IceTop (Which would go to the regular Icicle Mountain stage with no music).

YES, ABSOLUTELY AWESOME THAT THE BALLOON FIGHT FISH IS THERE!

I'm kind of sad that apparently the pterodactyl is not though...

Pap, the reason the games are so often linked is that they were really sister games in the same way Kid Icarus and Metroid were on the NES.  Phase based with two player co-op.  It amazes me that so many people haven't played them.  They were both probably my most replayed NES games and they are currently my favorte games on VC.  You should all pick them up!

Some fun little statistics...

This makes 18 known stages in the game, with no franchise having more than one...The remaining franchises that do not have a known stage are F-Zero and Sonic...The Metroid Norfair stage and the Mario Circuit stage also need to have their profiles revealed...

I bet it will fly by carrying items, when the glacier is still at the top of the mountain. It'd be too weird for it to be omitted.

That fish is freaky looking at that size. Reminds me of a certain lungfish.

I wouldn't be surprised if Balloon Fighter shows up as an unlockable character using the same eggplant "franchise icon" as the Ice Climbers, now. They do seem to share the same universe.

Edit: I just noticed he threw in a jack-o-lantern on the Halloween update. It could just be a coincidence, but it's still fun.

Did anybody notice that in the last picture that king dedede is in the water?  Does that mean that you cannot be knocked out below the stage?  Of course the fish is there so you will likely get eaten anyway.  Does anybody think that there may be the ability to swim?

That was pseudo confirmed at E for All. The Delfino Plaza videos showed players being knocked into the water and floating/swimming.

Pale: I see what you mean. I think the Balloon Fighter has a chance since BF has been popular lately, with Smooth Mooves featuring a Wii version of Balloon Trip, although I think he will be an assist.

Well running by the past couple games, they could make up a new move set for him if they wanted to...It's just that I believe that if Balloon Fighter were a combatant they would have saved the fish for a Balloon Fight stage...And running by their list of stages thus-far, it'd make no sense for them to be "putting the Ice Climber and Balloon Fight stage as one"...

Not that I think he'll be playable, but they could do something.

He's obviously set up to be another floater like kirby, meta knight, and pit.

He could have a needle throwing special move, because he's theoretically popping the baddies balloons in the original game with a needle.

He could have a shield move where he uses one of his balloons to block an attack.  The explosion of the popping balloon could do bomb calibur damage to anyone in range.  The catch would be that this move could only be used twice per life (for his two balloons).  After the first time, his floating could be weakened.  After the second time, he can't float at all.

Maybe do another move in the same vein where he deflates one of his balloons for a massive damage projectile attack that can only be used twice per stock.

Maybe have his b-up move re-inflate some of his balloons but have it take long enough that it's tough to do without getting hit and interrupted.

Tie all that together with a pair system similar to the climbers, and I'm sure you could go off of that.

I think it'd be cool.

I personally would let him float X distance above the platforms but be easy to knock around to compensate.  Once the balloons were popped be harder to knock off.  Also I make him smaller then the other characters without his balloons.

The Melee one was shut off because it was such crap to our circle.

I could actually see that working, but I agree with Bill's logic that if the fish is here, it probably won't be in a Ballon Fighter level (unless they used it in both levels). Then again, Sakurai did hint very strongly about the fish so it's possible.

I wonder if the fish can eat players whole...
