You know, I guess they could be mixing up the villains though. Bowser attacking Donkey Kong, Wario working with Meta Knight.

Well I think the point of the Subspace Emissary is the exaggerated cross-overs, so it may not necessarily mean he's completely missing from the game...

And from videos at E for All, it looks like Wario might be working with whatever princess he kidnaps...

Working "with"? It seemed to me that Wario kidnapped that princess for the Space Emissary.

Also, I don't think the fact that koopas are stealing DK's bananas is any real sign. I mean, think about it, K. Rool has pulled that trick before and in a game that is this huge of a crossover it would be lame to make him do it again rather than shake things up. Hell, if you want to theorize, perhaps K. Rool even suggested it to the Emissary as a means of luring him out?

Basically, we know so little about the plot that it's pretty futile to say that it points to who the roster might be because of events seen so far. I personally don't think we will see K. Rool this time around, despite how much I would love it, but the Koopas taking on DK really doesn't say enough to draw a conclusion from it.

And I still have a feeling he'll end up working with the princess for some reason or another (such as after a betrayal, etc)...

The pairing between a princess and someone as uncouth as Wario just FITS...

Dude... King Dedede has been in every Kirby game except The Amazing Mirror. His spot is long overdue....

On a Kirby related note, Metaknight's voice is kind of weird when you consider that, under the mask, he looks just like Kirby except he's blue. That's like hearing Ganondorf's voice coming out of Ness.

Also, that charged up hammer is insane... in the membrane.

That's great, but why does that reserve him a spot in Brawl? Toad has been in pretty much every Mario game and he isn't playable. Goroh has been in every F-Zero game and he isn't playable. Slippy has...you get the idea.

Dedede was a sure thing because he had the most votes in Sakurai's list, not because he was an obvious character choice. "Obvious" is a matter of opinion. Having votes on the poll is not (not after people have voted, anyway).

Dedede has been the only other consistent character that's been a factor in the outcome of Kirby games other than Kirby himself. Aside from the fact that he's not as cool as MetaKnight from a general standpoint, he's every bit more valuable as a Kirby character so far in the series. Toad isn't a big part of Mario. Goroh doesn't really make Falcon a bounty hunter. Slippy doesn't make Fox any better of an Arwing pilot, all while Dedede makes Kirby a hero.

Dedede is as to Kirby as Bowser is to Mario, in this sense. Most of the time, he is the villain. Sometimes, he is an ally, but, except for one or two games, he is always present. The difference is that Dedede usually allies with Kirby because he finds a greater benefit in helping the puff out. As King of Dreamland, if DL blew up, he wouldn't be king anymore, so he often helps Kirby prevent this scenario from playing out. Whenever Kirby isn't saving the entire planet from something outside, he's stopping Dedede from eating everything in sight.

If Geno is announced, can we stop denying that the poll is the driving force behind character selection, please?

Why would the development team adhere so closely to a poll? That's what I don't get. The choice is up to them and I'm not convinced that a poll would carry so much weight in development.

Polls are ultimately flawed. They only represent the opinions of people who actually voted which is a small percentage of the entire audience. And what stopped some jackass fanboy from voting a hundred times for character X? Don't think someone would be that pathetic? Surely you've never been to the imdb boards... "Let's vote Shawshank Redemption off #1 on the imdb Top 250!!!!1"

A character like Sonic is almost universally desired in Smash Bros. Even if you're not a Sonic fan, you can probably appreciate the Sonic vs. Mario rivalry. A character like Dedede has a rich history in a beloved Nintendo franchise. A character like Ike represents the latest main character in the Fire Emblem series (like Roy who made the cut in Melee to advertise his game) which is finally getting its due around the world. Marth (who I firmly believe will return in Brawl) was chosen because he appeared in the most games in the series. I can't imagine these choices are poll influenced. They all have more legitimate reasons for being picked than just being voted on in an unreliable poll.

But yes, I will concede if Geno becomes playable (being an Assist Trophy doesn't count). Still, he was a supporting character in Super Mario RPG and an extremely minor and easily missed cameo in Superstar Saga. I just can't see him making the cut.

Kirby is basically Sakurai's pet series, so I'm never surprised to see more representation from it. Because of that, I wouldn't use Dedede's presence as evidence of anything.

Dedede has some great moves, and I assume his last one will involve suction of some sort...And maybe his Final Smash will involve possession by Dark Matter...

Like what was already said the villian crossovers seem fair a K Rool/Bowser team up would be awesome.

Dedede just makes it seem that the roster should have more complete representation of each series granted Zelda and Mario are there its always nice for a new character, but I mean fleshing out the likes of DK, F-Zero, Starfox and Metriod (dunno how to do that one)

I can't prove it, but I can vouch for it. Kirby Super Star Spoilers, ahoy!

When you beat him in Revenge of the Meta-Knight, his mask falls off, and he looks almost exactly like Kirby, but with a cape and shoulder guards. He's blue with white eyes and a white mouth, IIRC

As far as the whole poll goes, I think the number of popular votes a character receives truly shows their value to us, the people who matter most in terms of sales. If Dedede was up at the top, that shows he was worth being in this game, "minor" Kirby character or not. The reasons he is in still apply, it's just that instead of the game's director seeing this, the fans did. Does that make sense?

Bowser has always been the final boss in the Mario platformers that have him in it though, maybe not all the spin off games, but the central series except for SMB2! King Deedee hasn't, so THERE.

Except for the part that Bowser isn't in it. I'm saying that Deedee has seldom been the main final boss in the main Kirby series even when he was in the game, so you PHAIL. Actually I change that in the AMERICAN SMB2 which isn't a real Mario game Bowser isn't the boss, but in the REAL SMB2 he is, so you phail again!

Of course: the way he got to the top of that poll was by people liking him, but I'm not questioning HOW characters got on the poll. I'm saying that we knew he'd be in the game because he was at the top of the poll.

I don't think the presence of these characters on the poll and their reveals is a coincidence like Adrock suggested.

I think we'll see Krystal, Ridley and very likely Geno at this point because they're all heavily favored on the poll.

Hey, if you want to make an exception for your case, and your case only, feel free to. I'll be over here, noting how often the King formerly known as Deedee plays a major role in the Kirby games. You can go and pout about how different he is from Bowser, but like it or not, the similarities are there. No they aren't in the exact same position, and no, he doesn't play the "Big Boss" archetype, but let's be real here, King Dedede is too busy eating to care about all of that stuff.
