I think everyone is completely missing the most important fact issued in this update:

Sandbag is back!!!

I am only half-joking BTW

I'm not entirely sure about the no records comment. He leaves room for speculation at the bottom of the post saying something to the effect of: we have other online modes in mind but we're saving those for later.

I'm guessing it's a tournament mode. Nintendo may even offer prizes such as the awesomely cool CD's and/or stickers.

"You can also battle with people you don’t know who are looking for brawls. The most important point here is that you will not know each other’s names.
If you think of your opponent as a simple scarecrow, any psychological barriers may melt away."

YES!!! Nothing could be worse than playing a random match and being hooked up with someone named "cute puppy". How could you hit THAT?
Beating up people I know in a FRIENDS match is no problem however. I love Sakurai. It's true that you can't be a genius without a little madness.

HA!

We all know that is just liberal propaganda, he is actually in league with the Duck Hunt Dog (A.K.A. DHD) and Zombie Tesla.

I'll make a prediction...When the game is released and they review the online play the reviewers will...

- Bitch about the lack of deeper online modes
- Bitch about the lack of customization
- The friend codes
- The lag even in local matches
- No leader board/ranked battles

Not to be overly pessimistic since I AM happy that online has been confirmed but these were some of the complains that came from both fans AND the media when talking about Mario Strikers Charged's online mode (which is up to date the best online experience on th Wii yet).

Plus, Nintendo has a lack of messing up online mode in their games.

I just don't see why they couldn't keep records for the global matches; if the matches don't matter at all, I might as well play against the CPUs and save my bandwith. Of course, I wasn't buying this game for the Wi-Fi anyway, so it's fine...

Or they could have made a disconnect = a loss. Problem solved.

If you're getting disconnected often enough for that to make a difference, you need to get a better internet connection or find another hobby.

You still have friend records which really are better. I rather know that I beat 18day 100-7, than know that "your a h-o-m-o" won over a 1000 matches and Mii looks just like a p-nes....

/agreed

I especially like the fact that they don't track the random matches wins and losses. This way, people can just concentrate on playing. And no one will disconnect to avoid a loss, or disconnect in fear of another player...

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Good point, though then I actually have to find other people I know with Wiis, and that's been surprisingly tough. Damn you friend codes, a thousand times!
