Two Final Smashes in one week?  You just don't want to give me a stage, do you Sakurai?

The "It's Super Effective!" text box is a really nice touch.

Hey You know I was worried that they might do something cool and interesting with the Pokemon Final Smash...like let the trainer call forth a legendary Pokemon or something for an attack.

Whew...I am so glad they just kept it simple and predictable.

Still, as for a final Smash I really like the quick easy effective ones more than the crazy ones.  This and Mario's seem to be the most playable so far.  A long range high damaging attack...with a large radius for attack...yes please.

It really puts Diddy Kong's to shame.

Yeah, I don't get why some of them seem to suck while others look more effective.

I'm sure all of these are balanced in terms of power, control, and lasting effectiveness...For example, Diddy's will force the player to control the attack, but will last longer, while Pokemon Trainer's will just be a simple forward attack, but will last shorter...

If everyone gets out of the way of the Pokémon Trainer's, it won't be super effective.  There's a big advantage in being able to move around and aim your attack, too.

This update cracked me up.  It almost makes me want that shirt in the Penny Arcade store.

The fact the screen takes the format of a pokemon battle is nice.  It's the little things.

That would have been exceedingly awesome.

I just thought of something. If all Pokemon Trainer's opponents avoid the attack the text box should say "It's not very effective..."

What would be the point of that when all the legendary Pokemon are pretty much guarenteed to be in the Pokeballs? I guess you could control them for a short while, but the legendaries tended to have moves that attacked a huge portion of the screen in Melee anyhow.

Legendaries + control = awesome final smash

3 Pokemans attack = jump over the Pokemans and wait until the attack is finished

This is why they invented something called timing.... l think his final smash is fine, and would provide for a nice entertaining wallop

I really look forward to seeing how exactly they're balanced. It seems obvious, but I'm afraid that there might be tiers again. But who cares? I never believed in those anyway.

We'd have to see how it actually plays out as a final smash and how long it fires for. From the screenshot, it appears as though you can jump over them and be safe, but that may not actually be the case.

But that doesn't change the fact that I think controlling a legendary would be awesome.

Of course, if you don’t have a large number of friends, you may not have much need for a tourney.

In reference to the latest update:
"Actually, you can also play this by yourself against computer opponents, so try it out if you’re so inclined."

Finally, as I only ever got to use Tourney mode once in Melee, as most of the other times I played with friends it would only be a quick match or two.

Wait, I thought you could play against computers in Melee Tourney mode?

Also, I wonder if there will be online tournaments..

I seem to recall creating a 32 player tourney with all CPUs at one point...

Yep, it's  in Melee, too.  You can even go as high as 64 players, too.

I'm glad to see it return.  Now, if they'll just add in WiFi functionality to the Tourney mode.... that would be great.

I have to say this was a weak week of updates. No character, item or stage were revealed, two final smashes, two game mode updates and one disappointing assist trophy...

I hope next week is better...
