Miyamoto: We Haven't Seen the Last of Pikmin

Quote

"I certainly don't think we've seen the last of Pikmin," he said. "I definitely would like to do something with them, and I think the Wii interface in particular is very well suited to that franchise." - Miyamoto

Animal Crossing Update
Hopefully we'll be able to show you something before too long, says Miyamoto.

Quote

The Animal Crossing team has been very busy working on a variety of different projects. Actually, the Mii Channel was put together by the director of the most recent Animal Crossing game. His name is Mr. Nogami. Recently he said he really wants to get back to work on Animal Crossing again, so hopefully we'll be able to show something to people before too long."

Miyamoto on 1:1 Sword Fighting Game

Quote

"We haven't announced anything, so I can't speak about any particulars, but we do have a lot of ideas about how we could potentially use the Wii remote for something like that."

Aonuma and Miyamoto on Next Wii Zelda
Some ideas are being thrown around, but don't expect a sequel anytime soon.

Quote

Shigeru Miyamoto elaborated on the likelihood of another Wii Zelda. "It's really hard to say because we've never had a Zelda that's appeared so early in the life cycle of the system, so it's definitely possible that there would be another Zelda on Wii," he said. "Of course, the challenge is that typically a Zelda game is something that takes three years to develop, so we'll just have to wait and see."

Sorry, it just seems like more bait to keep gamers interested in the future of the Wii after the Big 3 are out. Nothing about any of those quotes are at all specific. Just designed to keep you hoping.

I'm a little bummed about Zelda. TP was, for all intensive purposes, a GC game. If we don't see a Wii Zelda title that was made specifically for the Wii from the ground up I will be disappointed to say the least.

It's kind of odd to be all "we've never had a Zelda this early before so maybe we'll make another one".  Uh, hello?  The SNES was the only Nintendo console to get only one Zelda unless Nintendo doesn't count TP as a second Cube Zelda (though they should).

I find it funny that everyone says Pikmin is so perfect for the remote.  Pikmin is very much an RTS designed so that it doesn't need a mouse.  The remote has a lot of mouse functionality so saying that it's so perfect is kind of ironic.  Pikmin's controls were made as such to avoid the need for devices like the remote.

"Also what up with the double talk, didn't Aonuma and Miyamoto already conform Zelda wii a year ago???"

I'll admit it's not encouraging.  After all this talk about taking Zelda in new directions and such they don't seem too enthusiastic.  You figure after not giving a Zelda a full go with the remote they would be excited about what else they could do.  The fact that he mentions three years like it's a big deal is also pretty weird.  The Wii hasn't been out for even a YEAR yet.  Three years is plenty of time unless Nintendo plans on releasing the Wii successor early.

Of course all of it might just Nintendo employees being goofy weirdos as usual.  I'm still waiting for Iwata to say something really stupid.

I agree 100%.

Remember what they said about TP? That it would be the last time we get a Zelda title that will play like this or something. (Pretty much insinuating a massive change to the game was in the works based around the Wiimote).

But as you said Ian, they don't seem too enthused about it and I hope that Wii lasts longer than 3 more years!

Wow, I never thought of it like that. Great insight... though it makes me even more excited because that means we'll even be seeing some new ideas on how to control pikmin if they use the wiimote!

Well they go from saying pretty much that Zelda as we know it will no longer be the same after TP to saying we may not even see a new Zelda for Wii. That's disheartening.

IGN, rather than discussing upcoming games and the things that were actually announced at E3, stuff Miyamoto and everyone might actually be able to talk about, decides to (as usual) speculate about crap that *might* appear in the distant future, stuff that Nintendo has not even mentioned before.  They could talk about the exciting possibilities behind the new platform controller.  But no.  IGN would rather ask them about things they can't talk about, things that may or may not even be in development.

And then you all act like this is Nintendo spouting out non-information.  Of course they are, they have to.  IGN is asking them BS questions.

But BS questions are hardcore GAMER questions! By Nintendo not having ready lies to tell us, they're ABANDONING the hardcore game segment!

But I kid. Seriously guys, how does this mean nothing's in dev? This is Nintendo, they're ALWAYS in a sort of demo phase. It may turn into Mario 128, it may turn into Pikmin! Who can say at this point!!!

Also, in the link to 1:1 sword fighting, he leaks the info that Mario vs. Sega at the Olympics will have fencing.

Part of that is probably because very little actually was annouced at E3.  Most of the big games are titles IGN readers were well aware of already.  The big surprise is Wii Fit which doesn't target gamers and thus IGN probably doesn't think it's of much interest to IGN readers.  Nintendo has mentioned Pikmin and Zelda a little bit before so it isn't like IGN is just pulling random stuff out of a hat.  Zelda is particular is something that Nintendo has mentioned so it's natural to follow up on that one.

Though in the same way you can't blame Nintendo for giving non-answers.  Still a "maybe" for Zelda contradicts earlier statements.

what? so we can't ask for Zelda or Pikmin, the things we really are interested in? thats retarded, this arent BS questions, this are questions gamers want to know. miyamoto and aonuma talking about Zelda like that is nothing but disgusting, and anyone here, who has followed nintendo all these years has all the right to be pissed and to call them on it. Jesus, sometimes I think some of you work for Nintendo PR, fanboyism has to have a limit, when Nintendo starts treating zelda this way it becomes indefensible, don't try to spin it and give excuses.

You know, I'd really like a DS Pikmin.  Sure they'd have to scale it back a bit but I think it could be fun for short play sessions (especially if you could save mid mission).  The DS stylus would be very well suited to the task, and the mic would let you whistle for them yourself.

Toss in some WiFi connection co-op...or dare I imagine vs mode.

The DS would allow the game to be made faster and cheaper.  Considering the fact Pikmin 2 wasn't exactly a retail juggernaut it could make Nintendo much more likely to keep going on the series sooner rather than later.

But Bill the problem is NOT the non-answering of questions when it comes to these games.

It's the sheer lack of information even pointing to them being in development!

If Nintendo had just said "We have plans for Zelda but we can't discuss them at this time" I would have accepted it. Not this "Well you know Zelda takes 3 years to develop and we never released Zelda so early in a systems life so we can't say if Zelda will return to Wii" crap.

That's just horrible. Come on Nintendo TP was a GAMECUBE title with ADDED Wii functionality. There should be NO QUESTION that Zelda will have a full blown Wii game.

What's the point in hyping up a product that won't be done for years?  Ninty doesn't want you thinking about games that won't be done for a long time, they want you to be excited about games that are coming out within the next year... =|

And this isn't the first time Ninty has done something like this for Zelda...At GDC 2004, Aonuma was asked about Wind Waker 2, and he was all "Well, we may or may not be making any progress on it..."  Then what happened at E3?  A trailer of the game...Ninty answers questions like this all the time, and making drama out of it will get you nowhere...
