The game will be broken into several quarters. We will start with pre-game, where all players will receive a role, being a Calvinball player if he or she is good w/o a role. There will be a one-three hour break between every quarter, and most role-specific actions will take place during this time. During a normal quarter, votes will be pm'ed to me then all votes will be revealed at the start of the next quarter. For the first quarter, all votes will be made in the open, not pm'ed to me, so the game can start with conversation.
Calvin's Dad is a tricky role. Ever fluctuating in the polls, Calvin's Dad wants to remain in the running, but not appear to want the job too much. As the head of Calvin's household, Calvin's Dad cannot be killed by our mafia squad. He's able to talk his way out of the kill using confusing backwards logic about where the sun lands and the like. No one can perceive his importance, in fact, when investigated, he appears to be the standard Calvinball player. However, he is not allowed to hint or reveal himself to anyone in anyway.
Calvin's Dad's aim is to be the third highest voted player of the quarter. If he achieves this, he is given two options. He can go to work, or he can cut out the roughhousing. When Calvin's Dad goes to work, as a patent attorney, he is able to research the roles of three players of his choosing. He may then choose a time in-between quarters to defend two players of his choice from the quarter vote. This allows him to half the total number of votes any player receives in the proceeding quarter. He may do this once for each time he goes to work, and it will be revealed that he has done so. Votes will be revealed to be cut, but who voted whom shall be made known. Because Calvin's Dad can choose whatever quarter he wants to use this ability, the votes which allowed him to use this technique will still be revealed.
His second option is to cut the roughhousing. This stops every action from occurring in-between the quarter proceeding this choice. This occurs immediately after being the third place-voted player, and as a result, the votes for the day will not be revealed, and instead, the actions that roles choose to perform in-between periods will be revealed, though they weren't performed.
As you can see, Calvin's Dad is a powerful role to have. There is a trade-off, though. If Calvin's Dad goes three days in a row without receiving at least two votes in a single day, he dies.
And I'm looking for potential player feedback on these roles as I create them. I intend the game to run heavily on honesty of players. No PMs will be allowed, except for the mafia players, and all conversation must be held in the appropriate forum topics, out in the open, or with me, if you have a question. I'm not sure yet if we will have hidden roles in the game. I'm still looking to hear some ideas, so let me know if you have any input!
