Pokemon Tournament Beta Testing
« on: May 11, 2007, 08:14:22 PM »
(UPDATED!) No longer in Beta!  PM me for an invite!

I've found a neat little site, I've sent out some PM's to some NWR Staff members to see if they want to get on board.  (Jonnyboy117 is already on the prowl!)

The site that I found includes 3 different tournament styles.

- Single Elimination (1 loss elminates you)
- Double Elimination (2 losses elminates you, there is a loser bracket and a winning bracket)
- Swiss Tourney (1 pt for victories, after set rounds are all done whoever has the most wins)

The site isn't the prettiest but it has a lot of features and controls for the admins.

Were no longer in Beta, the site works for the most part. Here is a link to the main page of NWR - Pokemon League Tournament.

NWR - Pokemon League Tournament

Here is the link to the actual website if u want to check it out.

MyLeague

We already finished our 2nd tourney, so as far as i know this will be the NWR - Pokemon League Tournament.  We now have about 12 members, if you would want to join in plz PM (click the little lock icon above my post).

(EDIT)  Decided to list some new features that I noticed:
1.  Prizes can be set by Admins (i.e. Rare Pokemon, NWR prize, Special Signature on NWR Forums maybe?)
2.  Can make team tournaments (i.e. 4 ppl to a team, and have like 8 teams or more.  Team with most pts win.)
3.  I can stage detailed rules for different tourneys (Fire Pokemon only, Female Pokemon only, weight classes, etc)
4.  Tournament of Champions (at the end of the month the winners of each tournament are put into a special tournament)
5.  Admins can award medals to users.
6.  Skill Ratings for users.
7.  Stats (Winning Streaks, Win Percentage, Top Players List, etc)
8.  Forums & Chat
9.  I can have tournaments held in just one day or over multiple days, and ability to postpone a match!
10.  If a NWR staffer gives me a image file of the NWR logo or banner, I can upload it to the page.

Update!

Actually, this is a pretty good idea. I'd always thought we'd see more wi-fi competitions on this board. Much like their is radio trivia every couple of weeks, I thought that we might see a wi-fi tourney for the boards every once in a while. I know there are some logistical things that would have to be worked out first but I can do that. Maybe I'll work this problem out and send in a tournament idea with some other ideas I have for the site in my application. Reading your post has given me some great inspiration WuTangTurtle. I'll see that you get a promotion for this. Hey, would you like to join my election party? You can be my secretary of Wi-Fi.
Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.

oh and i forgot to add, this doesn't have to be only a Pokemon Tournament.  The site allows me to make multiple tournaments, so if anyone wants to have a Mario Kart Tourney or any other game, we could.

As for being Khushrenada's Sectretary of Wi-Fi, I'd first have to ask how much does it pay?

hate to double post on my own thread, but some import info:

I've started to notice a problem already, some ppl are having difficulties just trying to complete registration using myleague.com.  I'm also finding trouble logging into the site and the navigation of the site and its design is crap.

I've found a better looking site, it even lists Pokemon as one of its games to make a tournament for (nobody has made one yet though), however I do not think there is a way for me to make the league private.  I want each of the current Beta Tester's to see if they can login and register through myleague.com, if they have problems I say we start again through this new site.

Check it out here:

Leaga.com

Oh and plz post in this thread if you are having problems with myleague.com and plz tell me guys if you prefer leaga.com instead.

I'm gonna test the leaga site out and report back here with more info.  stay tuned to this thread.

Hmmm, I think I'm in the process of registering on the site.  My school just started for the Summer, so I've been a little busy.  Sorry I haven't been on top of this, I still have to email you.  Which I will do right now.  Well, right after I look up your email address.

umm forget leaga.com  apparently I have to be active for 1 full week and have played in 5 different tourneys before i can create anything on my own.  Also they have a lot less features and controls for admins and tournament settings.

I think myleague.com is gonna have to be it, unless somebody makes some super kick @$$ tournament site for us.  I did find some other sites but like I've said so far myleague.com has the best controls, features, and tournament options.  Web page may be ugly and navigation may be questionable but it works, at least on my end.

Please guys find out in the next couple days if you can finish registering to the league and then registering to my first tournament.

Remember guys it starts on 5-19-07 @ 8:00pm EST 5pm Pacific.

(Edit)
I contacted the head guys at leaga.com, they say they would let me bypass the week and 5 tourneys restrictions for me.  If myleague.com tournaments go sour, let me know if you guys would rather try leaga.com.  At this point I'm still in favor of myleague.com but this is one reason why we are having a beta process.

Sooo...I think I did everything right, but I don't see a place to put in the code I got in the first email.

Edit:  I'm #1 according to the website!  Yay!

(Edit)
Congrats to Blazecon also.

just check in on that site, u have to log in to the tournament and check in before the tournament officially starts.  Open Check in starts 15min before tournament start time.

(Edit)
I opened check in status early, as long as u join before the tournament starts you should be set.  I'll be on WFC if u need to chat, or use the "dedicated chat" function on the website im in there right now.

(Edit #2)
damn it, chat is down or something.  Just get on WFC if u need to talk.

Pokemon Beta results:

Thatguy wins in a landslide.

Thatguy   5-0
WuTang   3-2
Shecky     2-3
Blazecon  0-5

Things went smoothly for the most part, i had to figure out what i had to do as an admin on the fly.  Turns out it seems that I have to open check in, close check in, start the tourney, and as matches finish I have to report wins loses, advance the round, accept the next pairings/seeding.  Once the tournament is done, all i had to do was update the stats pretty much.

I think we are ready for open registrations to all NWR forum users, PM with ur email if u want an invite.  We'll probably start another tournament next saturday at 8pm EST, 5pm Pacific time.

Big thanks to all the users that participated with the Beta test, and good luck to anyone who is paired up with thatguy next time.

How did Shecky lose one more than everyone else played?  Did I beat him bad enough that it poured over onto an extra loss?

Looks interesting but I say the site design itself looks terrible.  How does the the results themselves get added?  The honor system?  I haven't added any friend codes to mine yet but I be interested in the Tourneys.

Also what features would you want in a role your own?
Need a Personal NonCitizen-Magical-Elf-Boy-Child-Game-Abused-King-Kratos-Play-Thing Crimm Unmaker-of-Worlds-Hunter-Of-Boxes
so, I don't have to edit as Much.

Dang man... Harsh...

Part of my problem is that I always have the same 5 pokemon with the same movesets...  on top of that I've pretty much battled thatguy, what 12 times with that team... so I'm sure it's hard *not* to predict what I'm going to do.  I may need to take a leave from these tournaments so that I can actually have a bench to pull from.

Not exactly my fault, u wanted a rematch for your 5th and final match.  I probably should have denied it though.....

and Ceric i sent u a PM to answer your questions.

Well, what Shecky neglects to mention is that I've used virtually the same team every time I fight him, too, so he knows what to expect from my side as well.  However, that Blazecon guy got it worst from me.  6-0 in that battle.

Yeah, but a poor match-up is a poor match-up.  Just like the one on one... no matter how many time we'd play it out I'd have to catch a rare stroke of luck to pull out a win... and I knew exactly what your going to do.  Same for the team play...

Blazecon definitely got the short end of the stick for this tournament.  He almost had me, but my Lopunny was able to comeback from a 1vs3 scenario.

By the way thatguy, my Lopunny does have arms, if u look closely u will tell it has its arms in a boxer like stance (but more feminine).

I wasn't pinning fault on anyone but myself, and vowing for a rematch is part of basic smack talk
