Check em out, it looks pretty good to me.

Reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics because of the characters but the gameplay looks like Lost Magic.  Look out for the Chocobo army!

the graphics are really impressive.  DS COMPONENT CABLES FTW.  The gameplay looks awsome but i wonder if you buy the guys in your army or they just give them to you

this game would be awsome with online battles

And then geez... after this, later in the year, Dragon Quest IX. Killer.

HOLY SH*T!

It's Myth the Fallen Lords meets Final Fantasy Tactics...

I had no intention of buying this if it was another Rail Playing Game, but this looks like a RTS with decent RPG elements added in, and that can only equate massive fun. If Square opts to forsake the sh*tty turn-based combat forever, they'll have me as a customer for life.

I'd KILL for multiplayer co-op for this...

I wish someone would do an RTS without RPG elements for the DS...

Hm, sprites on 3d backgrounds is quite the opposite of what S-E usually does.

I thought Age of Empires and PoP Battles were just that...and both sucked ass.

Age of Empires DS is turn based.  I've been kicking around ideas for a DS RTS in my head for a while now.  I just wish I had the time and knowhow to get it done.

Ah, I wasn't sure.

Still, I prefer RTSs with RPG elements. I loved the heroes from WCIII but hated the fact that you lost your progress at the end of every battle and would need to level them again.

If this can deliver a strong RTS feel where you keep your lead characters throughout as they get more powerful and specialize in certain combat aspects, then this game is perfect for me.

I'd prefer an RTS more like C&C with ressources, bases, unit production, etc.

I know what u mean, i kinda wish advance wars could use that same "heroes" feature but for every unit had that ability to get higher ranks like officer, leutenant, etc.  However I do realize it would really change the gameplay too much.

The videos look neat, but they give me the impression that the game plays itself, which seemed to be a major complaint about FFXII.  Even so, colour me interested.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Plays itself? Do you want to tell every unit to attack every time they swing their sword?

FF12 DID play itself, as in all you had to do was walk near an enemy and the gambits would take over for your entire party.

In this case, it looks as though you're using RTS-like controls to command units into battle, which is a great deal more interactive than the gambit system.

Though, it depends on how much strategy they involve in this one. If maneuvers like high-ground utilization and attacking and retreating are necessary for success then this game is a must-have for me. I loved elements like that in Myth and I'll no doubt love them here as well if they're done properly.

Thinking about, I think the reason why you are so excited for this game SB is because the footage reminds you of a game you used to greatly enjoy and thus the footage invokes feeling of excitement, which explains why I feel indifferent towards the game since I have no memory that summons excitement. Like I said, I haven't even played FFXII, so not even the fact that this continues the story excites me.

I really gotta play FFXII...

FF Tactics plays heavily into this, because it already proved that Square can do a strategy game right.

Of course it does. FFXII IS heavily inspired by the FF Tactics storyline, world and characters.

That almost makes me want to endure the ultra-sh*tty PS2 controller and the heinous gambit system...

But I'll just play this one instead.

Why do I get the feeling that I've been misunderstood?

What I meant was that one of the reasons this new DS game looks interesting is because it is heavily inspired by the FF Tactics world, and thus wouldn't be surprising if it borrowed some elements from the Tactics games as well.

I know what you meant, I was just expressing that, while the world is indeed interesting, it won't convince me to put up with a control scheme I despise and a controller I hate on a system I hate.

Actually, it looks to me like it was inspired directly by Growlanser II & III.  Go check out that bundle of games and decide if you like this style.  Both games are fun and have a good storyline (even if the voice acting leaves something to be desired).  They are for the PS2 btw.

Did ANYONE pick this game up when it came out? I was a bit put off by the $39.99 price tag, but I picked it up anyways.

Having fun, despite some slo-mo battle tedium. I can also confirm that "The (FF Tactics influence) is strong with this one."

Would be curious to play the original FFXII, but won't be picking up a PS2 or BC-PS3 anytime soon.
