Not a bad game so far.  The one thing I really have to complain about is that there is a bit of a glitch in the game.  When you invert the pitch, aiming while locked-on does not work properly.  The reason you may have had trouble hitting vital areas on targets is that, when the pitch is inverted, the games seems to get confused.  So, the cursor works erratically when you are locked-on to a target.  It took me five minutes trying to hit the guy in the shoulder in the training mission before I figured out that the inverted pitch was causing problems.  I switched it off, and it immediately began to function normally.  Another small gripe is that the driving can be a little tedious on occasion.

Overall, it isn't a bad looking game, and it is paced fairly well (although it does feel disjointed, sometimes).  The motion controls do seem to add to the game, also.  Worth a rent, at the least.  I, too, hope it sells well, at least to set precedent.

Thanks Chiller, I set the inversions to normal, and the aiming works pretty well though.

I think the only thing that is backwards while inverted is the aiming - after all, if I want to move to the right it's probably because there's a target there, and when I have to move my aim all the way to the left to get the guy on screen and THEN move the aim to the right, it wastest precious time.  Plus I'm still a little jittery with the free-aim thing.  But I don't think the camera control feels backwards on inverted, probably thanks to Halo.  But, I'll get used to it after a while of playing.

At $20, it's worth the price. You've got GC controls and last-gen graphics, but the pacing is wonderfully fast, aiming is actually quite easy, and the setting and story so far seem quite entertaining. Even when you die or fail, they don't start you all the way back at the beginning of the mission, only a very recent checkpoint. One caveat: save often, there is no such thing as autosave in this game.

Off topic question, but does anyone else here actually HAVE a Godfather?

Just last night I was threatening to kill my imaginary friend named Vinny because they were playing Godfather-sounding music on the radio.

Oh yeah, this is about video games.  This looks decent but I'm all about waiting for SPM.

It's too bad he doesn't look like Joe Pesci.

Do you suppose there's any correlation between how good or bad a game is and how far off topic its topic gets?

I don't know. Wasn't Joe Pesci in Twins with Arnold Swarcheneggar? Swarzeneggar? Swarzhenegger? SCHWARCH-E-NEGGAR???

...

Wasn't he in that movie with the Governor of California? Or have I completely mixed him up with Danny Devito again?

Finished it. Took roughly 27 hours to complete.

From a gamer's perspective, the game is excellent. It has the sandbox crime game thing going for it but the real meat and potatoes is the awesome control scheme.

From a Godfather fan's perspective, the first 3/4ths of the game is fun, as it's a sort of alternate universe where your character was involved with all of the activities seen during the movies. However, when your character becomes the Don, it suddenly pushes aside the storyline completely and you have no idea what happened to Michael Corleone or even Vito, who dies at some point but the player never sees it, only hears about it afterwards. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend it to Godfather fans at all. It's like they had a good lead up, then just fell flat.

I will say, though, that by the end of it, I was glad to be done. It's like Pokemon: I played one game to see what all the fuss was about, but I never needed to play another one.

This will be the same way: I highly doubt I'll ever pick up another sandbox crime game, but it was a fun experience and I'm immensely glad I was able to play one with Wii controls.

I will as soon as they ship me the game.

Though, there are already some impressions in the "MoH Purdy" thread which sound pretty convincing.

USA Today loves the game too!

I think this might be the first time a publication such as USA Today recommends the Nintendo version of a game over the other versions.

Definitely an advancement over the earlier days.

Awesome!

Does anyone know how well this game is selling for the Wii? With all of the positive buzz it's been receiving I'd be shocked if it doesn't become a million seller. We need it for 3rd parties to take the Wii seriously as a system that they develop "M"-rated titles for without having to fear that nobody will buy it.

Yet another good review.

"Other than a few glitches, I was impressed. EA went the extra mile here. The motion controls work really well and this version features new content not found in the original release. If EA puts this much effort into their future Wii releases, I’ll be ecstatic. Ubisoft could learn a few lessons from this game. If you’re a GTA fan, you’ll want to grab this right away. I’d also recommend it for anybody looking for another immersive full-length experience on the Wii."

It'd be doubly impressive for a game that's at its core a port (albeit an amazingly good port). I'm hoping EA did something about the supply shortage, because a lot of stores weren't even carrying it when I was looking for it.
