I'm glad to see progress on one of my favorite games from E3 for one simple reason: A full fledge action game that uses ONLY the remote!

We need more of these games, we were supposed to be playing games with one hand, like on the DS we were supposed to be able to play using only touch screen. I want games that embody these principles. Also I love RPG's (have I mentioned that enough times yet?) so of course I want this game.
Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

Just saw the trailer.  There are somethings that I would like cleanup and I prefer the original look of the Golem but all and all I will still at least rent this game with the idea that I'll probably go on to keep it.

You do realize that certain types of games will NOT work with just the Wiimote, right?

As idealistic as Nintendo's beliefs are about the DS and the Wii they also realize that they need some traditional elements in order to keep gamers and developers happy.

People are already bitching up a storm over games that has touch screen based controls instead of a traditional one (like Starfox command and Mario Hoops), so imagine the storm they would make if they made an action game where the Wiimote is used to do EVERYTHING in the game.

Turn-based RPGs have seen their day, as far as I'm concerned. I can barely play one without falling asleep anymore.

I welcome any and all departures from the formula.

Just in case, I was talking about control methods, not actual game formats. I welcome any new changes and innovation, but I also believe that a solid and traditional control shouldn't be sacrificed for the sake of innovation.

As long as people keep buyin' 'em, someone will keep makin' 'em.

I hope you're both wrong.

I love turn based RPG's. It's one of the reasons I am so disappointed with FFXII.
As long as the game is done well, I see no reason not to make games that only uses the Wii-mote. Look at Excite Truck, and Wii Sports (minus boxing). If they can do a full fledge RPG with only the remote, I think other genre's could benefit.

I love turn-based RPGs and don't want to see them go away (see my relief over DQIX in the DS section), but I'm actually eager to see how this game plays...

And besides, this is the FIRST Akira Toriyama Art that I have EVER liked. That's gotta say something when usually his stuff makes me vomit a little in my mouth.

And I think Nintendo got very lucky with the Wii and this game. DQ: Henshin (the tv-game Swords is apparently based on) and the Wiimote went together SO WELL that Square had no choice but to make a cash-in title. There's no equivalent Square title on PS3, so right now it looks like Nintendo is being favored to consumers.

Also, Squaresoft probably would've waited for FF:CB to do well or not before shifting their dev resources around, but now they might move much sooner if DQ:S does gangbusters, thus negating the mindshare advantage of the PS3 with the upfront sales data a successful wii release might net them.

DQ:S is like a gift for Nintendo:
-Square couldn't resist making the title to cash-in
-the game showed off the Wii's strengths because it was easy, cheap, and fast to develop because it was based on a pre-existing one and the Wii is so easy to dev for

This basically makes Square one step closer to commiting to the Wii over other systems!

Of course, all this hinges on sales success. But I know I'll be doing my part!

I was hoping for new information oh well...  I like turn base RPGs as well and I'm in the process of demolishing FFIII DS.  (I haven't had anyone survive more then 2 rounds which makes the jump ability of my Dragoon useless...)

I don't like the term "cash-in" because it implies that little-to-no effort is being made to develop the game, which is obviously not the case here...

I constantly drool over the thought of this game.  Now, a fancy trailer has been put up on the nets, and, well, I had to change my pants.
This gaming is reversing time itself, and turning me into a blissful infant.  It needs to come out soon.

And prediction:
This will be this generation's FF VII if it lives up to everything I've seen so far.  I'm talking about in North America, now, too.

In Punch-Out you were allowed to sidestep and chase a fat man on a bike around the Statue of Liberty.

I hope you're gonna link to it in this thread, just so some of us don't miss it.

And just so you know, I'm gonna base my purchase of this game solely on your review.

Let me guess..

- Even if gameplay is solid it can get tedious and annoying
- Graphics are good but can be better
- Wiimote actions didn't work as well as they should
- Overall, yetr another disappointing title for the Wii and not Square's best effort to date
- Nintendo is doomed

There, I did the work for ya.
