PSP has destroyed DS and Wii combined. It's all over folks, Japan has fallen.

What did I say... I called it back on page 99! This is the end. Nintendo files for Japan's equivalent of a US Chapter 7 Bankruptcy (total liquidation) at the end of fiscal '07.

They got 50 million people to buy in on the gimmick. Which is quite an accomplishment. But the blinders are gone. And this weeks numbers only prove how much the better the PSP actually is.

Good riddance.

Everyone in Japan who cares about handheld video games has probably already got a DS. Now there is nothing left to buy except that thing Sony was offering...

Nintendo should probably come out with some new colors, or better yet, a new DS revision.

The PSP's sales boost is a combination of it finally having a must-have game for the Japanese audience combined with the fact that barely anyone has one compared to nearly everyone owning a DS.
But as soon as the FF hype dies down, things will be back to normal.

Actually its a combination of CCFFVII being released last week and the PSP Slim being released this week.
All the PSP Phat owners are upgrading to the Slim for the TV Out option that was supposed to be in the Original release of the PSP back in 2005.
Now all those UMD's aren't going to be so useless since you can watch them on the go and plug it into a bigger screen when you get the chance, same goes for some of their favorite portable games too.

Actually, it is #1 or #2. It's #3 in Famitsu, but they combine Pokemon into one slot (MC splits it up).

Halo 3 = #1 in Japan. 59,000 sales, beating the #2 game (DS Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon:Toki) by about 4,000.

Big deal. As huge of a game as Halo 3 is it should be number 1 when it is released no matter what market. It is the weeks that follow which make it important.

I have a feeling Halo 3 will drop like a rock in sales after this week...in all regions.

I think Halo 3 will have a little more consistency, but I do think it'll drop. MS shipped quite a few units IIRC, so a significant portion of its targeted audience should have the title, but it should still be high in the charts for a few weeks, at least in the US.

For any game on the 360 to sell 59,000 copies in Japan, it actually is a pretty big deal - especially if it debuts at #1. Also next week it will either A. be in the top 3, or B. be completely off the list. I bet it's in the top 3 in the US for at least a month or so.

I wonder what the hardware numbers overall are now that Halo 3 is almost 2 weeks old. Last I checked, the Wii made its way to first...tasted first place...and then Halo 3 was released.
