AFAIK the FT didn't use data for all regions. Especially the hard to track "other" region.

So those MP3 numbers are only the first 5 days it was on sale?

That's not bad considering many universities opened up classes that day or had classes already going on. I've never bought a game the same day as class started or at least a week afterwards.

I'm just going to go ahead and guess that September's #'s will be much higher.

No one should expect Metroid Prime 3 to be a chart-topper and sell millions off the bat.
Metroid titles have always appealed more to the hardcore niche market than the kind of broad audience most other Nintendo games with historiically much stronger sales (Mario, Pokemon, etc..) have appealed to.
But I do think it will easily sell better than Echos, and eventually better than the original Prime. Word of mouth should give it legs through the holiday season.

Eventually the PSP will have to start defeating the DS pretty regularly, because everyone that wants a DS will have one.  I mean look at how many DS systems have sold compared to the life of the PS2...it has almost caught up completely...and probably will.

I have noticed that it is much easier in my area to find the Wii now.  I found 10 last week at Best Buy in the middle of the week after the big Sunday promotion...and I found about 10 at Costco in a bundle.

So right now there is going to be a pause in sales that I would take advantage of if you are looking to purchase a Wii, because Mario Galaxy into Brawl they will be quite difficult to find again.

I am worried that the Wii's numbers are suddenly dropping in Japan, but I'm not that worried that the PSP is doing well this week. Crisis Core IS perhaps one of the PSP's biggest titles, and its also based on FFVII and fans are gaye for it.

The real test lies in the coming weeks when the fanbase has already picked up the game and all that's left is the rest of the gaming crowd.

The Wii sales are quite low, but they're still twice any other home console.  My understanding is that this is normally a slow period in Japan.

Nice work, PSP.  I don't think it will last, though.

I'm not. It's kinda amazing they've been in 2nd place all this time with nothing except Wii Play and Wii Sports.

As soon as Nintendo unleashes the big guns of Mario and Smash Bros. you can be sure it will go straight to the top.

And the PSP's success this week is also something to not be concerned about. It took what was arguably the best PSP game yet released, plus a hardware revision to just barely rise above the DS. Once that hype dies down, the PSP will go back to its usual position of 3rd or 4th place.

To put current Wii sales in Japan into perspective a bit, if you look at PS2 sales back in early September 2003, they were selling around 32,000 units per week, and that was with a handful of popular new releases (two Gundam games and an RPG, can't remember the name).  Nintendo has been selling around 20-30 thousand, and has had no major releases since, what, Mario Party 8?  Not to mention it continues to outsell every other home console by at least 90%.

In other words, the sales aren't what they used to be, but they aren't bad for this time of year, either.  I think it's safe to say supply has caught up with demand in Japan, but some new games and the holiday season will change that.
That's my opinion, not yours.
