Might as well create a new thread for the new Nintendo IP, Project Blue. Personally I can't wait to get my hands on the game after seeing the teaser video, it looks gorgeous and could be tons of fun too. Any other thoughts?

I can't wait to get lost in blue. ...no, wait, that's another game.

Yeah, looks awesome. Definetly looking forward to this.

Looks relaxing and/or boring. The online element could be really neat.

is that the game that is basically scuba diving or something?

If so, I wonder if it is 100% non game, or is it more like a exploring game where you try to find things to complete a objective or something.

I'm not sure what it will have, but it does look like it has a slick presentation and the multiplayer should make for an interesting experience (Hey it is Nintendo so it can't be THAT bad!). I hope it is one of those online enabled games.

I remember reading somewhere that you and a friend could connect via Wi-Fi and go diving together.... AWESOME.

Why hasn't anyone photoshopped a picture of Steve Irwin in this screen shot yet?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

"If so, I wonder if it is 100% non game, or is it more like a exploring game where you try to find things to complete a objective or something."

I would like it if they made it both where there were clear objectives and goals but if you want you play in free mode where you just swim and explore the same areas without anything specific to do.  It's like how in Wave Race you have the races but if you just want to goof around in one of the areas you can (or Tony Hawk for another example).  That way non-gamers can enjoy this game but there's stuff to do for more experienced gamers as well.

One complaint about Electroplankton was that is was so thin on things to do.  You couldn't even save the music creations you made.  The idea was to simplify things for non-gamers but it simplied too much to the point where experienced gamers were turned off by the lack of depth.

I like this concept and I think if they do it right they can make a game that both groups will like.  If it was a 100% non-game it would be a total waste of a cool concept.  Logically there has to be some objectives or the game would have no replay value once you explored all the areas.

Ian Sane invents Grand Theft Scuba Diving!

I like it.  You know what, my Grandad would actually consider buying this game.  He's one of those people that I thought, "Oh, he'd NEVER buy a game system, Nintendo's plan is foolish."  I still don't think he'd buy a system, but it's nice to see Nintendo coming up with products that aren't typical on the market.

Grand Theft Scuba Diving.

There's a really tasteless Steve Irwin joke in there that I just don't have the heart in me to make.

Speaking of which, where's a link to info on this game?  I'd love to learn more.

Also, now that I think about it, where's Miyamoto's new IP?
I must find a way to use "burninate" more in my daily speech.

I agree with IanSane because Scuba Diving = Japanese Garden. The concept is the same: something new to discover or investigate around every bend. You can't just set people lose in a sandbox and expect them to entertain themselves, you need to give them goals. Some of us are gifted enough to build sand castles, but the rest of us need to be given guidance on where we need to swim, what we need to see, and how we can be excited about it.

Maybe Grand Theft Scuba should be built around taking film or photographs of these underwater visions for conservation's sake?

Kairon that is some really great ideas.  It would be awesome to be playing that game and someone walks in the room and thinks your watching PBS or the Discovery Channel or something.

At first i was thinking more of a pikmin kind of exploration vs Grand Theft Scuba Diving but yeah good is good.

I was also thinking Pilotwings when you said it, because PILOTWINGS is the ORIGINAL sandbox game!  Grand Theft Auto just steals all the credit.

Man this game has so much potential, but I have a feeling I'll love it no matter what direction it takes...

I'm sure there will be objectives, like "Find such and such fish" or "Find this wreck," which could make the game an adventurer's wet dream... ='D

If they made a waterproof cover for the remote I would play this in the bath tub. The built-in speaker would make it even more awesome. Fully "immersive" gameplay.

Ok. I like the photo taking idea!

What else? Treasure hunting could be something worth including. That adds the idea of currency in the game to buy things for your virtual scuba diver. Let's not just limit that to snorkeling fashion. . . How about things to add to your boat? Yeah. Boats!

You could upgrade it or yes. . . perhaps even make your own luxury yacht to host your own scuba diving parties.

I dunno. Just thinking.

I was trying to dig that up and couldn't find anything, I don't think it has been revealed yet.

Update:

According to IGN it is made by the developer Arika, and apparently is a follow up to the Everblue series (I am not sure about this though, this is going by a gamefaqs post but Akira is the creator of those games) which was on both PS1 and PS2.

Here is what has been officially revealed:
Quote

"Developed by Arika, this diving game uses the Wiimote for performing a variety of diving maneuvers. The ocean changes based on time and season. Using Wi-Fi, you and a friend can meet up in the ocean and dive together."

P.S. Apparently the Everblue games are in the love em/hate em category. I was reading through gamespot.com's review for EB2 and they gave it a 6.1 (but it appears from the gameplay videos for Wii you can do alot more), but hey if you are interested here is a link to the gamespot.com review
